You still have a few days to pick up one of Dremel’s cordless pumpkin carving rotary tools before Halloween. This 6V rotary tool accepts 4 AA batteries, has two seeds – 6,000 and 12,000 rpm, and includes 10 templates and a 1/8″ high-speed cutter.
This tool has received mixed reviews via Amazon, with some of the better written reviews indicating that the tool should be considered a carver or skinner rather than a cutter. In other words, you should keep a carving knife handy for rough, deep, and penetrating cuts.

Dremel’s pumpkin carving rotary tool is reasonably priced at about $25. Unless you are willing to pay for expedited shipping, you may want to consider buying the Dremel locally, given that Halloween is but five days away.

I wonder how my regular Dremel would work for carving pumpkins? I guess there is only one way to find out. Hopefully it doesn’t get too dirty.

Tried my regular Dremel for pumpkin carving and it didn’t do well. I didn’t like how it left a much larger kerf than the cheap pumpkin carving saw that I had. The cheap saw (the ones that come with carving kits for a couple $) was also able to make more precise cuts. I feel I have much more control with the little saw than a Dremel.
Another problem is if you would use the bit in the picture then it’s not long enough. I was carving medium to large pumpkins and thickness of the pumplin was a problem. You had to try to move the Dremel in a sawing motion which really presented control problems.
