To finish off our first Favorite Screwdriver Week, we’ll take a look at Wera’s Kraftform Classic screwdrivers. Wera offers several tiers of screwdrivers, including the Classic, Comfort, Plus Lasertip, Insulated and Chiseltip handled driver styles.
Wera makes some of the most comfortable screwdrivers, so I just had to try out their economically priced 6-piece Kraftform Classic Screwdriver Set (031280). They have ultra comfortable ergonomic handles that are made of a single impact resistant material.

The Classic handle is also designed to transfer more torque with less effort, and the laser etched tips securely fit in screws. With the comfortable design of the drivers’ handles and their precise tips, I have no fear of them slipping in my hand.
I bought the set for use around the house and I am glad I did. Wera’s Classic-handled line is a great choice for general purpose use. The 6-piece set includes 4 slotted and 2 Phillips screwdrivers.

I have the same set of Wera drivers. One of the best purchases I ever made. They fit well in my big hand and don’t slip when sweating in the shop. They must have changed manufacturing locations as mine are in Germany.

Alex mentioned that his were made in Germany as well, but I had to take that part out. I picked up a set recently that was made in the CR.
I do prefer Wera’s other Kraftform handle styles, but these are decent beater drivers. For about the same money, if I had to choose, I’d probably go with Wiha’s 3K screwdrivers instead.

When I bought my Wera Kraftform Classic driver set, I mostly made the purchase to see what all the hub-bub was about with the handles. Besides, I have never bought a German tool that I didn’t like. So I knew it wouldn’t be a bad investment.
The handles are really comfortable. However, there isn’t much variety in this little set. That’s why I turned them into household screwdrivers. They suit that purpose perfectly.

I think that I like the Wiha handles better – but we’ve bought several sets of WERA stainless steel Phillips drivers with serrated tips – that we all think grip very well and help really reduce cam out.

I picked up some Wera Kraftform 1/4in bitdrivers (813R microdriver, 392 flex shaft driver) and a Kraftform Comfort 6pc set that Amazon had at a reduced price. I’m very happy with the tools, the larger drivers please my big hands and I was surprised to find I like the micro driver as much as I do. They’re all marked Czech but the box from the Comfort set has a nice big German flag on it, though that’s a sticker so I suppose it could have been added by Small Parts Inc. Both the Kraftform and Kraftform Comfort have a pleasant differentiation of materials in the grips and the Comfort feel every bit as good as my soft touch Snap-On drivers – and to be honest, I could have gotten so many more of these than the SO’s, I wish I’d started shopping for tools online years ago.

Just arrived, Kraftform Kompakt 40 (059298) screwdriver set. Amazon has this one on special too, blows the Kobalt bit driver it replaces in my toolbox out of the water in terms of comfort. No storage in the handle, that’s just an 816R and you can get it for a couple bucks less if the pouch and long bits aren’t of interest to you. I think I’m set for screwdrivers for a while.

I keep toying with the idea of picking up the “25” Kompakt set which includes a similar handle but with smaller bits, but never could quite convince myself. I’d like to think that I’m done with screwdrivers, but there’s always more sizes/shapes/handle styles/brands to try out.

FWIW, I was all into Wera’s grip until I ran into high-torque situations where the peaked ridge on the handle produced an unwanted pressure point in my hand. I then held Felo’s comfort grip and found a better alternative. I can do away with unwanted pain now. Of course, this is my hand; you’re experience may vary.
