While we have invested heavily in the M12 lineup – I’m not sure I buy into the idea of using a rechargeable battery for a meter. Nothing exactly wrong with it – but why not a just an alkaline battery – AA, AAA, 9V or otherwise? – Why do I want the weight and size of a LiIon rechargeable?

It was also offered, from the same people who were selling that kit, had the SUB-SCANNER detection tool (Model 2290-20) instead of the clamp meter.

Fred, that’s a question I’ve considered quite a few times as well, although I can see how it can be convenient to maintain a unified battery platform. I’m sure that when they first came out, people wondered the same about 18V worklights. And now with the 12V and 18V LED work lights, many people expect for there to be such a product included in every brand’s lineup.
Milwaukee did at one point offer an AA version of their inspection camera. It seems that it has been discontinued in favor of the M12 version.

On inspection cameras -w e’ve bought into Rigid Seesnake system- and really like the option of using 2 Rigid 18V batteries or AC to power the equipment. We use ours with their laptop interface – which of course uses LiIon batteries to power the laptop. Naturally the AC interface gives you much longer runtime – and its what we use in most residential situations where we can feed in from the basement out.

Norm, you are correct. I was also interested in the M12 sub scanner package… However it was either sold out, or taken off the marketplace before I could pull the trigger… Ah, maybe there’ll be a next time…
I agree about the battery. But as far as the M12 battery goes, I have a good ammount of them (standard and XC) on hand in my box. So for me at this point, it’s pretty much as Stuart said, convenient.
