Adam Savage’s Orange Sortimo T-Boxxes are no Longer Available

Adam Savage Tested Sortimo T-Boxx in Orange Discontinued

Around 6 months ago, Adam Savage launched a customized and orange-themed Sortimo T-Boxx that he was selling through his online store.

It’s unclear what happened or when, but Adam Savage is no longer selling these customized T-Boxx organizers in his online store. The page has been taken down, and a search for “Sortimo,” “T-Boxx,” or similar produces zero results.

The price was a bit high – $105 each, with quantity discounts available.

When I posted about the product launch, I noted that you could buy similar boxes from Sortimo USA for just under $83.70. Savage offered a 20% discount for orders of 5 or more, which dropped the price to $84 each. His store said they would provide a custom quote for anyone who intended to purchase 10 or more.

I’m a bit surprised by this, as Adam Savage has a huge following. Sortimo T-Boxxes – or at least the earlier model – are decent organizers, albeit expensive.

Savage’s price was on-par with Sortimo’s direct pricing, at least for users ordering 5 or more.

I wonder if there was just too little demand, or if something else happened.

He is now hustling a water filtration system. He seems like a good enough guy, but this sudden drop and being hired on to a sling water filtration has my head scratching.

Unfortunately it feels we are watching a shift in the more established youtube creator based (people who have been on the platform for like 5+ years). I have been seeing long-time subscription channels about tech & tools that I follow just making dedicated advertisement videos for brands.

Feels like I have been seeing it more and more recently.

Hate to say it but Adam is a youtuber now judging by his activity on the platform and his following and it seems like this is another case of youtuber monetization that just isn’t “worth it” for the parties involved after the initial sales numbers come in and so the sponsorship/aka advertising contract has to get cancelled or not renewed etc.

I feel like I have been witnessing youtubers getting alot more desperate with their sponsorship deals as of late.

I would suspect sales were very slow….similar quality products are available at less than 1/3 the price point from numerous manufacturers and these organizers also face competition with the established modular plastic storage solutions. I can’t say I have seen anyone other than Adam using these in my travels online

Yeah, I think a partnership like this would have sold much better 5+ years ago, before high quality parts organizers like this were so ubiquitous.

People can 3D print those type of inserts and organization. At least for me, that would be why I would not a be customer for that product series. Several years ago, I 3D printed Sortimo inserts of all sizes for my US General 44 inch drawers, upwards of 150-200 of them to organize small parts, nuts and bolts etc. So much easier opening a big damn drawer of organized parts than opening dozens of smaller parts organizers.

Can’t post photos here. Not my designs so I wouldn’t print and sell them. I used Bosch L-Boxx bin style design files posted to Thingiverse at the time, quite a few to choose. Those sized correctly for height to fit inside the drawers. I did 1×1, 1×2, 2×2, 1×4 sizes (Sortimo sizing), a lot of them. Just makes a clean presentation, easy to find things quickly opening a few drawers which hold a lot of the 1×1 sizes. Pull a bin when needed, put them in an L-Boxx for on the go.

Pretty easy to see what happened. Go look at the Sortimo page on Amazon and you’ll see that they flagrantly toss there $19 amazon basics version right next to the T-Boxx listings along with Bosh and every other chinese knockoff on the market.

Savage is in the business of making money off of his previous works so no money equals new products. Can’t see the water purifier going any better.

Agree with you, there are just too many organizers on the market that are decently high quality. Seriously, how high of a quality do you need to put bolts and screws in a tub?

Savage is constantly creating new content, so he isn’t just peddling off Mythbusters. He has >10MM followers across platforms, so he is probably turning down way more opportunities than we ever see.

There was a guy who did a YouTube video about the Chinese copycats and how quickly it happens. It was “a better mousetrap” m or something and really simple, but he made a huge point.

I think that might have been the “flip and slide” mousetrap featured on Shawn Wood’s channel?

I just watched his most recent video discussing what his “post death plan” was, and behind him is a massive stack of these orange Sortimo boxes still in the shrink wrap packaging. I wonder if he decided to keep them since he just completed a massive reorganization of his workshop. He stated that the long-term intent is for his shop become a makerspace for other creatives in his industry.

The product page on Sortimos has returned, on his webshop.
“I am thrilled there’s so much interest in my Sortimos! They are sold out right now, but we’re planning to bring them back this fall.”

      Thanks!

I wonder if there’s renewed interest only because it seemed to have been dropped, and whether it will translate to actual sales.
