Akro-Mils Drawer Storage Bin Cabinet

Over at Woot, an Amazon company, there’s a great deal on Akro-Mils steel-framed small parts and hardware storage cabinets going on this week. These cabinets are quite strong, durable, and versatile. I have one in my home workshop and kept several in my research lab and office, and would buy a couple more if I had the room for them.

There are several cabinet configurations are available: 9-drawer, 9-drawer with locking front, 15-drawer, 16-drawer, 20-drawer, and 28-drawer. Storage racks are also included in the sale.

Dimensions: 17″ wide x 11″ tall x 11″ deep.

If you can’t settle on which size to get, I recommend the 20-drawer unit. I use one at home for hardware, tools, and miscellaneous small parts. Each unit comes with 2 dividers and 1 label per drawer.

I have mine sitting on a shelf, but these units can also be wall-mounted via keyhole slots or hung from an Akro-Mils louvered rack via suspension straps (not included). You can stack multiple units on top of each other, but there’s probably a weight limit.

The chassis is made from powder-coated welded steel, and the removable bins are high-impact plastic. Each storage cabinet weighs about 20 pounds with empty drawers.

You have a lot of color options for each configuration option: grey, black, blue, red, and yellow. This refers to the plastic drawers, as the steel chassis are all grey-colored.

Deal ends 12am 6/15/2013, and shipping is a flat $5 per order.

The last I checked, these steel-framed bin cabinets were all made in the USA.

Some of the grey-drawered units are less expensive on Amazon than Woot, so be sure to check both sites if you’re not looking to match the color with other items in your garage or shop.

If you’re looking for a unit with smaller bins, you’ll have to look at Akro-Mils’ plastic storage organizers. Personally I prefer these steel-chassis ones, but with their extra strength comes greater size and weight.

While I like the cabinet portion, I’m not a fan of the actual -bins-. Any pointers on something similar where the bins are -closed- to the front? Preferably clear & labelable.

The style I’m thinking of is widely available in the -smaller- sizes with less robust plastic. (Like the nice one shown in one of the ‘related posts’)

These bins are enclosed in the front, at least as well as can be. It’s hard to see, but each bin/drawer has a piece of clear plastic covering the non-colored part. The plastic is removable, not easily in some cases, and I haven’t figured out what they’re used for. Either that, or I knew at one point and forgot. Perhaps they are removable for easier labeling?

Wild. Some of the detail shots on Amazon show the clear piece better. I may have to find a home for a few.

I have 2 sets of similar Akro-Mils cabinets. My drawers are clear and enclosed. The metal shell is strong and has not warped. I probably have 100+ pounds of fasteners in each one. Although I found mine for slightly less a couple of years ago, this is a good price.

Metal Buildings Are Cheaper steel building manufacturers in
oklahoma to Build: Steel may seem more expensive than traditional wood buildings.

Temporary structures can be designed as per the requirements of the customers.

    Metal building buyers do not order steel buildings on speculation;
so they are very strong and lightweight.
