The compact PowerStack battery is a compact and light Li-ion battery with stacked pouch cells. It’s a great fit for smaller cordless power tools, such as the 20V Max impact drivers and ratchets.
It can deliver greater power than the brand’s other compact batteries, such as the 2Ah battery, allowing it to be used in medium-demand tools in a pinch or when you’re after the lightest package.

I wish they would replace their standard 2ah and cheap black 2ah batteries in kits with these. Some of their kits have these 1.7ah powerstacks but they should completely stay with these and the powerpacks for 2025 on.

The cheap black-case 1.3Ah and 1.5Ah batteries were largely replaced by 2Ah batteries last year.
There are some tools where a PowerStack version is available, and also occasional special buy bundles where you can get tool-only options with a PowerStack-based starter kit.
It’s a cost consideration – tool users tend to prefer lower prices over better batteries.
One can buy whatever battery they want. But if the better battery is a forced inclusion, there’s no option but to either spend more or take a closer look at competing brands’ kits.

These were tempting, and still may consider. But I just bought a 2-pack of 5ah 20v batteries on Amazon for $127.60. This is a good deal if you don’t need any tools, in my opinion. Thanks Stuart for your extra hard work during the holiday season, once again.

The first two images on the Amazon listing show the Standard PowerStack logo and the rest show the new XR PowerStack logo. Makes me wonder if this is really DeWalt/SBD selling it or not.

DeWalt updated the sticker on all their 20v batteries this year, and a lot of websites still show the old sticker in thein stock photos. Even 100% authorized vendors still have old stock images. The listing photo is not a good indicator of whether they are real or not.

Dewalt updated their XR branding and the look of the Powerpack batteries, but it’ll likely be a while until online retailers iron out their product listings.
