Anso Titanium Carabiner Bottle Opener

Anso Carabiner Bottle Opener

We previously posted about Anso’s Barbar Ti multi-tool, and a few commenters were aghast at its $75 price. Anso just came out with their third generation titanium carbiner bottle opener, and it’s priced even higher, at $125.

Titanium is a strong, light, and even beautiful material, but it’s tough to work with and requires expensive tooling and a lot of machine time. That’s why titanium tools are often quite pricey.

The Carabiner V.3 is CNC milled from 0.200-inch thick 6Al4V titanium and measures about 3-1/2-inch long and 1-1/2-inch wide. The spring gate is made from stainless steel.

As for the finish, the titanium goes through bead-blasting, stone-washing, and then anodizing. You have the choice of blue, green, bronze, grey-greenish, and natural grey. The carabiner also features a pry bar that’ll work on drinks with pull tabs.

Each carabiner will set you back $125 plus $10 international shipping.

More Details(via Anso)

Personally I would rather have a stainless steel Leatherman Brewzer at 1/10th the price, but I’m also not especially crazy about titanium.

Sounds like something that belongs in a Sharper Image catalog. Who buys these things?

I know. Is this a good use of your tool/gadget budget? Only if you have money to burn.

Oh the things I could do with that $125 at Epstein’s!

I hear that, especially with them now creating USA made shirts with their logo on them, just to name one item in particular.

As for this item, unless I was given this as gift, I would never spend that much on a bottle opener.

I think I will make myself one of those, thats a cakewalk part to machine. Would probably take longer to make a nice fixture to machine it on than to make the part. Titanium isnt that bad to machine actually mills really nicely its just a really tough material.

Stainless steel can look just as nice and is a ton cheaper

Wow. I’m trying to think how much Guinness I will have to not drink to afford the bottle opener!

Looking at the “related links” to the Anso Knives Barbar multi-tool, I’m starting to notice a trend here.

I guess it’s all relative. If I had a six figure income this would be like a $5 bottle opener for me.

I give up! What is the purpose/use of the teeth on the outer edge of the carabiner? Are the edges sharpened for cutting? Perhaps useful for a small pair of brass (titanium) knuckles? Why two sizes of teeth? I presume the circular holes are for running cordage/ropes through, but what is the purpose of the semicircular opening at the top left edge?

Decoration? The small carabiner that comes with Leatherman’s Sidekick multi-tool (reviewed here) has shallow grooves that are also seemingly only for aesthetics.

The carabiner that comes with the Leatherman sidekick is not small (it is a bit larger than a “regular” carabiner), and it is free. For the cost of one of these, you could buy 4 Leatherman sidekicks and have four of those carabiners that are included as well. It’s not like this is some kind of convenient and novel form factor or something.

Its a way toy justify the price. You just can’t have a bottle opener! Its gotta look like a flesh eating weapon that doubles as a bottle opener!

I bought a four pack of these years ago when I started drinking. http://www.cymba.com/luke01.html

I carry one on my keyring at all times. I never have to worry about opening a bottle. Plus it looks old skool.

This might be an alternative worth considering…
