Black Friday Tool Deals Rule 1: Don’t think too much. There are ways around buyer’s remorse, such as cancelling or returning your purchase (check return policies ahead of time!). But if you miss out on a promo window or a deal sells out, you’re out of luck.
Black Friday Tool Deals Rule 2: Don’t buy things you don’t need. If a deal is too good to pass up, share it with others!
Ask yourself: How upset will I be if the deal sells out in 5 minutes? That will help you determine the course of action.

My Game Plan
Home Depot and Amazon have the best deals of the day.
I will usually check other retailers to find price-matching options in case inventory starts selling out. Other retailers will sometimes have some unique deals as well, or lower free shipping thresholds.
Home Depot’s deals of the day are quick to scan through, and there’s always some great bargains there.
Amazon always has great deals, but they’re a chore to sort through. My process is to list them all out as I go through it all, and then I organize them later in the day for easier reference throughout the weekend and for future purposes.
Lowe’s usually has decent Black Friday deals, but have never been really good with doorbusters or deals of the day.
Specialty stores – woodworking or knife/multi-tool suppliers often have good deals. If I don’t have a purchase in mind, I browse for impulse-buys.
At some point I check my emails and post about any reader tips or deal finds. The comments sections are usually open on day-of posts, and I check those too to see if anything should be added into a post.
In between deal-scouting, I’ll order some tools for myself – some for review purposes, others for personal use.
What’s your game plan?
Is there anything I should add to the cheat sheet above? To be honest, it’s mostly there as a reminder for myself, so that I remember where to check for updates, and can do so with the fewest clicks possible. But if it’s helpful for me, I figure maybe it’s helpful for you too.

My game plan is to first write down what I need, want and then organize that list in a priority. (This can be a good list to have on your phone an update throughout the year.)
Then I determine what I feel comfortable spending.
Then I begin to look at the non deal prices on everything (easiest in the months before because “list prices often aren’t real”).
Now I have enough information to tell me how good a deal may be.

i managed to secure a GDS18V-740N with the 18V 8.0Ah battery and charger for 279.99 CAD plus tax. this seems like a steal of a deal.
but i’ve read about the DCF921B and it seems like a really cool tool. i am not sure if i need the torque of the 740N but i don’t disagree it’d be nice to have. the skinniness of the 921B is also a huge draw. the big issue with the 921B is price. i don’t know if i’ll find a deal for one with a battery at even the same price point of the 740N (which, again, has an 8.0Ah battery plus charger for 279.99).
what do you pros recommend i do?

You have the high and low end both covered, and so the DCF921 would be a “good to have” right in the middle. If it’s a *want* and not a *need* you can watch for a potential deal that can throw you off the fence. Or, if you’re not tied to Dewalt, there might be a good deal on the equivalent Milwaukee M18 stubby that you might find more convincing.
Option A: Take advantage of a good deal on the DCF921 now.
Outcome A1: It works perfectly for your needs.
Outcome A2: You regret the expenditure.
Option B: You skip any deals on the DCF921 now and spend a little more later if/when you determine you need it.
Outcome B1: It works perfectly for your needs.
The amount of potential savings and your ability to buy from a store with an easy return policy might be the deciding factor. How much of a discount will it take for you to risk Outcome A2? $10? $20? $50?
Making a rule like this can help make the decision for you with less emotion.

you got them mixed up.
it’s the bosch profactor 18v 1/2 impact wrench that’s 279 CAD with an 8.0Ah CORE18V battery and charger. it has 740ft/lb fastening torque and 1180lb/ft breakaway torque.
the dewalt DCF921B is not really on sale, comes with no battery, and is 199. i am wondering if they’ll ever have a deal like “get a free battery with purchase” or “good battery kit for an extra 100 dollars”.
i’m not a mechanic but that’s not saying i don’t do those kinds of things. i would, in the future, like to do an engine rebuild. i also want difficult nuts covered. the bosch does all these, PLUS some, but is a little big. but it does come with a great 8.0Ah battery and charger (for 279.99 CAD!)
however some manoeuvrability like the DCF921B would be nice.

The impact driver you mentioned purchasing, with an adapter, can handle lower torque, an the impact wrench can cover higher torque.
The DCF921 you’re pining for would fall in the middle.
You said you “scored” the Bosch combo kit, and “managed to secure” the higher torque impact.
I thought these were given. So you want the DCF921 instead of the Bosch impact wrench?
I meant Options A and B as in “buy the DCF921 now” or “do not buy the DCF921 now.”
I can’t make that determination for you, and I don’t follow any Canadian tool dealers to be able to tell you whether there are good deals or not.

i don’t know if “want” the dcf921 is the right word.
i would like compactness in an impact wrench but i also know that this can compromise how well it can bust nuts.
the GDS18V-221 from bosch is a good example of how compact can be nice, but also possibly compromise busting tough nuts.
i don’t want more than one impact driver which may make this decision a bit more challenging. the GRX18V-740N is actually mentioned in one of your posts a couple years back (https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/bosch-profactor-impact-wrench-deal/%3C/a%3E%29. this is the same deal, but at a lower price. 279 CAD (plus tax) ~ 208 USD.
this wrench at 208 USD is a super screaming deal, wouldn’t you agree? the question is whether i should sit on it for a month and not open the box, just in case i find something on friday.

The Bosch impact is a good deal – IF if perfectly suits your needs.
If you can’t decide, check return policies and get them both. If you can afford it, keep them both, they’re complementing tools.
The higher torque impact can do everything the mid-torque impact can do. The mid-torque cannot do everything the higher torque model can do, but it might fit in tighter spaces or at least be lighter and less fatiguing to use.
If you cannot get the mid-torque on sale, there’s no rush. Use the high torque and see if it’s enough for your needs. If you cannot do that yet, resign to the fact you might end up buying both.
Look for deals that might make the decision easier to make. If you would spend the same on the mid-torque now or later, sit on it until the decision makes itself.
If your wallet can handle it, go for both – or consider the M18 stubby (assuming you don’t already have other Dewalt 20V tools) in case a sufficiently persuasive deal comes along.
You are going to use both (all three, technically), and they will all be good to have. Do you *need* the mid-torque? If you can’t answer that, and there’s no penalty in waiting, you can wait.
Try to find a way to remove emotion from the decision.
The difficult part is that I can push you off the fence either way.

it doesn’t seem bad and it may be a good start. i want the bigger one but i think it won’t be manoeuvrable. maybe the 221N at ~100USD isn’t bad since i already have 2 4A batteries and the charger?

Bought the shoulder plane on sale at Rockler yesterday. Already used it to fit the tennons on the doors I made for a TV stand.
Haven’t picked up the Dewalt 20v blower despite threatening to every year. Maybe 2023 will be the year I finally do.
Need to run a water line for the new fridge we had to buy. Need to figure out what tools I might need for that. Outside of that I think I’m not spending anything.

Most of the residential ice-maker water lines that we ran – used a coil of copper tubing connected to an existing copper water line via a new angle stop. Often the closet water line access was in the cellar below the homeowner’s kitchen. The process usually involved the locating and drilling of a access hole through the floor (drill and long drill bit needed).
The after the house water supply is shut and drained – a suitably located section of cold water pipe is cut (tubing cutter required) to remove a small section just long enough to fit in the new angle-stop. We carried angle stops on our trucks that were sweated (soldered) in (emery cloth, wire brush, flux and flux brush plus a torch required.) The tubing from the refrigerator) would then be cut to length (tubing cutter once again) and connected to the angle stop valve via compression connector (wrench and/or plier-wrench required) If you don’t wish to use a torch – you should be able to find an angle stop with all 3-compression connectors.

Thanks for the write up. That’s pretty much what I was thinking of doing. Was thinking of soldering everything instead of compression fittings. Fortunately there’s a shut off already in the line so I can keep the main house water on while I do it.

Some DIY folks are a bit afraid of applying an open flame to the pipe fittings – especially when they are in close proximity to combustible materials (like wood framing). I can recall an age when we used asbestos board or blankets (we now know better) to insulate things – but there are safer modern equivalents if needed. I grew up in an age when plumbers (deriving their name from plumbum – Latin for lead) use lots of molten lead to caulk joints – and I still have the tools for doing so.
As long as you clean your mating copper connection points inside and out to a bright finish, apply flux and heat the joints adequately – they should suck in the solder (lead free) and produce a leak-free joint. Having a damp rag to wipe the joint after it is made up isa also a good thing.
