New Dewalt Cordless Drill and Impact Driver Kits (Labor Day 2020)

In a recent post, I mentioned that I still have gift card funds to spend, thanks to ToolGuyd’s paid partnership with Home Depot to share about their Labor Day Savings Event. So, I’ve been doing some shopping.

What better way to stretch the value of that gift card than to shop Home Depot’s Labor Day 2020 tool deals? Yes, I am aware of how this sounds, but I want to max out the value, and so I’ve been browsing the sale for items on my wishlist and project shopping list, and also for deal post consideration. In the process I have uncovered some more deals and savings that warrant discussion.

What’s the Catch?

Exactly!

The Dewalt cordless drill deal features their excellent 20V Max DCD791 brushless compact dril/driver, and the impact driver deal features Dewalt’s also excellent DCF887 brushless multi-mode impact driver.

In each deal, you get the premium brushless cordless power tool, a battery, charger, and (1) Li-ion battery.

That by itself would raise an engage my attention. These tools aren’t typically discounted in such a manner.

And, that battery is a 5.0Ah Li-ion pack. Sure, you only get one, but this is Dewalt’s highest capacity 10-cell battery pack without getting into their larger and heavier higher-capacity batteries.

This is unusual, for a promo kit to come with a 5.0Ah battery.

But, if you price-shop around for these SKUs, DCD791P1 and DCF887P1, a couple of other retailers carry them, and for $199. That makes sense, since the 2x 2.0Ah battery kits are similarly priced, and to me this makes Home Depot’s $129 promo pricing even more appealing.

So, it might not be as much a promo kit as a discounted single-battery kit. Or, it could be a “special buy” kit, but the fact that it doesn’t seem like a promo kit makes it really hard to say.

Dewalt’s cordless drill and driver deals, even their brushless drill and impact driver special buys, usually come with a low-capacity compact battery pack. With their $99 deals, you typically get an entry-featured drill or single-speed impact driver bundled with a 1.3Ah or sometimes 1.5Ah battery.

Here, with these deals you get a useful high capacity battery pack, one you could use with Dewalt’s other 20V Max tools, even their heavier duty tools – such as their cordless saws.

You even get belt clips with the tools! That’s an area where pennies are sometimes pinched with drill and impact driver deals and special buys. Whether you want a belt clip or not, it’s always better to get one with a tool. It’s easier to have one and not want it than to try to source one if it’s not included.

With these deals, you get complete kits – and with great batteries (sorry, last time I’ll mention it!) – for less money ($10) than I could find the bare tools selling for at other retailers.

These are the best Dewalt cordless drill and impact driver deals I’ve seen in a while. Pandemic-related retail uncertainties make 2020 predictions difficult, but we always see a breadth of $99 cordless and brushless drill and impact drivers every winter holiday season. Keeping in mind the $99 deals we’ve seen in the past, I think these $129 kits are very good bargains for what you get.

These two deals cost a little more money – $129 compared to $99, but you get a LOT for that extra $30.
