But wait. Home Depot looks to have the same set, or rather an updated version of the set, 49-22-4175. You might get the same set from Acme Tool – maybe their imagery simply hasn’t been updated. But you don’t look to get the same small arbor adapter accessories.
The case is a little… smaller? Or maybe just different.

I sometimes need an uncommon hole saw size, and so I bought this Milwaukee 28pc set last year (49-22-4185), from Acme Tool. One of the pegs in the storage case broke off during shipping, but other than that it’s an excellent set.
It has nearly all of the hole saw sizes I could ever ask for, 3 arbors. and pilot bits. I have to double check, but I believe it comes with 3 pilot drills. Milwaukee seems to include an extra pilot drill for each arbor.

Which would I pick?
It’s a tough call. I tend to favor Milwaukee Hole Dozer USA-made hole saws, but I bought a Diablo set (the smaller one) due to the quick-looking mandrel design.
The Diablo hole saws are said to be longer, which can come in handy if you sometimes find yourself having to drill through anything from both sides with shorter hole saws.
Honestly, these are ALL very good deals. I plan on buying Milwaukee and Diablo sets. Maybe I’ll buy a Lenox set or two, too.

I like milwaukee’s for general use, if I need a cleaner cut hole though I prefer Lenox, I’ve found that the welds on Milwaukee tend not to be 100% lined up, sometimes a tooth sticks out a bit, etc. ymmv

I have the Lenox and a couple of sizes of cups. It cuts a good clean hole, fairly rapidly.
Getting the plug out can be very, very difficult, even with the leverage holes provided on the side. Debating whether I should get the whole set for $50, which is a great deal, something else, or just pass altogether.

Or you could make a jig that looks like the long drive pins of that Lenox arbor, to knock stubborn plugs out – once you remove the regular arbor.
The idea is to apply force at the back of the plug evenly so that it does not jam against the side of the hole saw cup. It does not always work as planned.

This style of bi-metal hole saw – be they from Milwaukee, Lenox, Dewalt, Starrett. Morse, Diablo, Bosch or others are rather ubiquitous – because they can cut a variety of materials. Their disadvantage is that they cut relatively slowly, can only cut so deep and retain the plug – sometimes making it difficult to eject it (as Hang Fire notes).
There are other styles based on the same sort of cup as the holder of cutting teeth or cutting edges. Milwaukee Big Hawg Style use 3 carbide teeth. Bosch also makes a 3 tooth style. Lenox sells a style called “One Tooth”, These all can be had individually or in kits. A lesser known (in the US anyway) brand is Pro Fit (made in the Netherlands) . Bosch, Lenox, Starrett , Blu-Mol and others make short cup hole saws with ejector springs specifically designed for cutting sheet metal. Ideal, Klein and Greenlee sell styles that are focused on cutting hole in electrical boxes and panels. Several manufactures make style with carbide teeth – or no teeth at all – rather using carbide or diamond grit edges to cut harder materials – possibly things like cast iron or ceramic tile. Center drills for there are usually also carbide tipped. For tile and stone cutting there are annular cutters that are meant to be treaded onto the arbor of an angle grinder -some meant to cut dry and others using water as lubricant and flushing agent. Other larger sizes are meant for use with specialized core drilling machines. For metal cutting – with magnetic drill presses – the Rotabroach cutter is favored over twist drills for larger sized holes.

Thanks for the info! One thing I’m wondering — did you really mean “cast iron” as a material for abrasive cutting (diamond or carbide grit)? I would think bimetal saws would be perfect for cutting cast iron.

The Milwaukee Hole Dozer set at Home Depot for $59 looks like the same set from last year, around $40 plus a bonus that they mailed to you later (knife, marker, pouch). Do you think Milwaukee will do a promo like that again?
My only complaint about the blow molded cases is that they don’t allow storage of other size saws, for expansion. I had a couple other sizes, same brand, looked like they’d fit, but no way to do that.
