the 2 lowes items are both made in the USA of global materials. Not sure of the ridgid.
And I thought one of the lowes items had the 6 hp rated motor but either way I think I’m aiming for the craftsman one due to the hose size mostly.

reading fail on my part – meanwhile I have to say it’s unfortunate that shop vac doesn’t come with the 2-1/2 hose. HP ratings are mostly meaningless anyway but the current draw rating looked to be higher. I might just have to put hands on packaging.
Question do all “shop vac” hoses fit all the items? If you buy the craftsman, or the shop vac, or the ridgid or the dewalt – can you put the 2.5 hose from ___ on any of them. IE “shop vac” hose can be found much cheaper from industrial stores online than in either store.

They *should*, at last in my experience, although some with locking devices tend to work better with the same brand of locking hose. It can vary.

When a product is “made in the USA from global materials” does that mean manufactured using raw materials from outside the USA or does global materials mean components and pre made assemblies from outside the USA which are screwed together in the USA or is it deliberately undefined?
It has all the hallmarks of a slippery marketing catchphrase.

I would think it depends on the manufacturer. IIRC, there are legal requirements for content before you can say “Made in USA” — and sometimes it’s hard to get to the required levels (e.g. most cheap motors are made in China) — and using “Made in USA” can make you more liable for law suites (too many lawyers here).
As I’ve said before, most “Made In China” products have substantial non-
Chinese content. To give an another example of how interconnected supply chains are , the machines we make contain substantial content from at least the US, Italy, Japan, France, Ireland, Germany, Thailand, Malaysia, and China.

I’ve seen that it can mean components are sourced from elsewhere, and I was told that in the case of tools (I asked about tape measures), it could be because the steel source is untraceable (such as if it’s recycled material), or sourced elsewhere.
With Dewalt’s “built in the USA with global and domestic component” brushless drills, I watched the motors being wound and finished, and was told that the housings were molded at a different USA facility, and that the shafts came from another one. The switches and control boards, if I recall correctly, were imported.
Assembly, programming, and testing was done in front of me.
On a different line, there were QC checks and reminders, and final testing.
It’s a gray area, but one that’s closer to “Made in the USA” than “Imported,” at least in my opinion.

What he’s asking about is what “It is made in USA with US and global components” means, and as part the FTC guidelines, that’s a Qualified Claim and is perfectly acceptable, although context or clarity usually isn’t provided.
For say a knife, it might say “knife made in USA, sheath is imported.” But I don’t think I have ever seen additional information regarding “Made in the USA using global materials” or “Made in the USA using domestic and global materials” claims.

Hi! “Made in USA with global components” is not a federally regulated phrase. So if you had a screwdriver, the stem and the raw plastic could come direct from China, and they only mold the imported plastic and stick the stem in it in the USA. So it doesn’t actually guarantee that there are any major, or any, US parts. It is a very gimmicky phrase.

Ace has the craftsman 12 gallon 6 HP model 17594 for $39. So far, I like it a lot. I made a 5 gal bucked dust collector to go with it.

That Craftsman vac sure seems like a Shopvac made item. I have a Ridgid and a Shopvac, the Ridgid is better in every regard…the Ridgid has better casters, a nicer hose, better shape for dumping(on the plastic vacs), better retaining latches on the lid. I guess you can say the Shopvac has two decent features, the threaded hose and they include the muffler…but I don’t have an issue with the push in hose on the Ridgid and the Ridgid muffler attachment (though separate purchase) is MUCH better.

Last year HD put the WD1851 vac ( Ridgid, 6.5 HP, 16 gal, (“cart” – meaning “wheels it will actually roll around on” – on their Pre-Blk Fri PRO sale for $99 (reg $159), did it again this year so I bought a 2nd one. Stupid to ship it with an 8 ft hose, but that’s the standard everywhere (should be a 12 ft, at least, and I’ve added a 20 ft) and the kit is short a couple tools (floor and round brushes, 2.5-to-1.25 adapter, etc.) but a very good vac at a very good price.
Pet Peeve: I’ve always wanted a high HP vac that has CFM and vacuum pressure to match in a smaller package, say, 10-12 gallons, and taller rather than fatter – something that will run only on a 20 amp shop circuit and when I turn it on the moon gets closer to earth, and a hose larger than 2.5″ but smaller than 4″ dust collector. A number of automotive painting chemicals come in small diameter 15 gal and 20 gal cans, why can’t a vac have that profile to easily fit in a corner? (Maybe a high HP power head for sale and pick which small diameter can for it you want – 8, 12, or 20 gallon?)

There’s a Shop-Vac head unit that fixes to 55 gallon drums. I don’t think I’ve seen one that secures to smaller sized industrial containers, but they might be out there.

friday while at work I perfused the various websites, I was tempted to go to Home Depot and get that ridgid machine but I talked myself out of it as I wasn’t sure if I had to then always buy ridgid accessories and pieces for it. As opposed to shop vac standard. But even then it looked like a good deal. But like wilbur says – diameter and the like.
ANd I was looking hard at a new sander anyway which was leading me to lowes – so I went and after hoisting the craftsman and the shop vac (the 12 – there were no 8’s) I ended up buying the shop vac 12. It has better suction values for less AMPS. Which I realized I had a minor issue with in my garage wiring that I want to update.
IE no matter which one I get I can’t run my saw and shop vac together until I get a new circuit

I like the suitcase style (wheels & extending handle in-line, rectangular shape) – seems like it would tuck into a corner easier and stack items on top easier.

The stainless Rigid vac was the loudest sound I had ever heard, was like standing under the engine of.a 747… its going back.
Gonna focus on quieter, plastic, and a much smaller hose diameter now…
