Lowes kicked off their Black Friday sale this evening, shortly after Sears’ deals went live. Somewhat surprisingly, this year’s 14-gallon Shop Vac doorbuster has already been discounted to its Black Friday price of $39, and is available for sale online
These special-priced wet/dry vacs typically sell out very quickly each year, and with Lowes offering them up a day early online and with free shipping we expect them to sell out quicker than ever.

One mistake a lot of people tend to do is add the vac or other high-demand items to their cart while they go about shopping and browsing for other Black Friday deals they had their eyes on. Don’t do this. The vacs are available for free in-store pickup and since $39 is greater than $19 they also ship for free.
Did you miss the deal? Home Depot’s promo on a 16-gallon Ridgid shop vacuum is still going strong.

If you missed the deal, don’t be too upset. The hose is the narrow-and-frequently-useless 1 1/4″ diameter, the motor isn’t all that powerful, and the casters are flimsy and starting to rust up from ambient moisture after about one year out of the box. Hooking up a 2″ diameter hose and then using a narrow tip helps a little with flow, but it’s still a weak vacuum overall. Add in the lack of a blower port and it’s a general disappointment.
I’m also 95% sure that this model was on sale last year for $29 …can’t find my old receipt to verify, but I wouldn’t have bought it for any more. Yet it sits in my shop nonetheless, frequently ignored in favor of a much older Craftsman shop vac.

I too bought the useless $29 ShopVac last year. It was so anemic, I returned to to find that my local Lowe’s had sold out of the special and substituted a much larger and increased power model with a larger hose and more attachments. It’s a beast. My only regret is not buying a half-dozen!

Dang, Ceegardave! Wish I’d known about that, although I don’t think they ever sold out of the crappy ones at my local Lowe’s.
