Home Depot came through with a repeat of their popular Ridgid 16 gallon shop vacuum deal this year.
For a limited time, or as supplies last, you can snag this shop vac for $59.88 as part of Home Depot’s Black Friday 2024 sales event.

This Ridgid vac, model HD1640, features wet/dry pickup capability and has a 16-gallon tank with built-in drain.

It has a 5 HP peak motor, locking-style hose and accessories, and also a built-in blower port.
You get a full-size 2-1/2″ x 7′ hose, 2 extension wands, utility nozzle, and a standard filter.
Price: $59.88
There always tend to be a bunch of different wet/dry shop vacs on sale for Black Friday. From what I’ve seen so far, this is the best one, offering a great features-to-price ratio.
This particular Ridgid model and holiday deal has been around for a while, which means there are plenty of user reviews to help push you off the fence.

Lowe’s seems to have skipped on budget models this year and has the Dewalt Stealthsonic 8-gallon shop vac for $89.

The Stealtsonic line features quieter performance.
Compared to the Ridgid vac, this Dewalt has a higher price, smaller collection tank, smaller hose size (1-7/8″ x 7′), and it seems there’s a smaller selection of replacement filters and bags.
Take a closer look at this one if you’re tired of the shrill noise from typical shop vacuums.
Price: $89

Love my Ridgid 16 gallon vac! It’s connected to a cyclonic dust trap with a scum sock on the filter and has never let me down. They have a nice detail accessory set also.

Been thinking about this for a while. Can give specifics on your cyclonic dust trap & scum sock. (I’m tired of research information overload)

I second the scum sock. I use yellow bags that stop drywall dust and fancy schmancy blue pleated filters. Once I started using the cheap pool filter socks, those spendy blue filters started lasting at Least twice as long.
Nathan
Huge plus 1 on this. I used both too. And I use a bag in my shop vac. Used to be one big project filled a bag. Now I got 3 to 4 projects before a bag. And little to no dust

I love my Rigid shop vac. It looks though like they don’t offer any of their vacs with the accessory sack anymore? It’s just a bag that loops around the elevated push handle so you can store your accessories. Not the best organized, but I have mine absolutely full to capacity with additional attachments, adapters, and specialized stuff, like a 2′ length of vinyl tubing.
Also, buy shop vac bags. I’ve received nothing but compliments when other people go to use my shop vac about how good the suction is. Apparently all too many people either don’t use the bags, or don’t clean their filter often enough, and that hurts performance. Just don’t buy the bags from Home Depot, you can get better prices elsewhere for generic bags and they work just fine.

And you can cut them open, dump out, fold over, and use binder clips. Works good for a few times depending on what you are sucking up.

I’ve had that Ridgid model for about 4 years and it’s been good so far. I’d recommend replacing the casters – the OEM ones are trash. I put a nice polyurethane set on there and it rolls way easier and doesn’t want to tip over when hitting the smallest piece of garage debris.

I have a Rigid 16 and a Stealthsonic 12. The rigid has a bit more suck, but the stealthsonic is VERY quiet. I use it for pretty much all vacuum tasks and only pull the rigid out for getting attached to a router or chop saw or something.

Rigid owners: how are the wheels? do they get stuck easily on the cord? And the wheel legs, how solid are they? I have Dustless HEPA vac and it took a tumble down the stairs. The legs are held on by a screw and plastic hook-sides, and it was first thing that broke. Epoxy fixed that but, I need a dust vac, that I can hook a dust deputy to, that just works and …sucks well. And someone that recommended cheaper bags, how bout a part number to search? Thanks.
Bonnie
They’re plastic like everywhere else, but well-made and pretty durable plastic IME. I have two Rigids, one about 15 years old, the other about 5. Neither have given me any trouble, but they’re mostly used in a woodshop with smooth concrete floor or my house for reno projects.
I had a dust deputy for awhile, but frankly even with it’s own rolling stand the DD just ended up being way too much hassle and I gave it away.

That Dewalt Stealthsonic deal is crazy good! A quiet vac sign me up!
Stuart
Of course you’d say that – you work for the company making these for Dewalt.

Good catch!
My take on the DeWalt Stealthsonic:
Best feature by far is how quiet it is. On par with the Fein.
Suction: It’s actually pretty decent. Just how quiet it is makes it sound like it underperforms.
Hose: Junk (most are)
Bags: Junk. And too expensive. They also fall off the fitting way too easily. Filters are way overpriced too.
Build quality is better than the Ridgid…just by a little.
They now come in four sizes at Lowe’s. I bought the 12 gallon a couple of years ago when it first came out and paid $139. I’d pay that again just for how quiet it is and make my own upgrades. I like the tool caddy on the back a lot. You don’t get one on the 6 gallon.
If you’re thinking about getting one skip the 6 gallon and the 16. The 12 gallon is $119 currently and had been for a few months. You save $30 on the 9 gallon but lose the 20 foot electric cord for a 10 foot one and get a 1 7/8″ 7′ hose instead of a 2 1/2″ 7′, but both are junk anyway.
I’m a bit of a vacuum snob but also a cheapskate (aren’t we all here) and have had too many Deal of The Day shop vacs and have given most of them away. IMO the best bang for the buck (YMMV) is the Fein Turbo I whenever it goes on mega sale at Acme.
Keeping my eyes peeled for a second one.
Stuart
It was an easy catch, otherwise I’d make a bigger deal of it.
Shill comments make me doubt every stranger anecdote or review I come across.

What in the world? Golly gee whiz…

If you’re gonna shill, be transparent… Just say, “I work for the company that manufactures of the Stealthsonic. We’re really proud of it; it’s very quiet and we think it works well. This is the best price we’ve offered yet. Got any questions?” Just be honest, transparent, and helpful. It might actually lead to some actual respect from readers.

I love my Rigid shop vac. This is too good of a deal to pass up on another one. I get tired of lugging it from the garage, into the basement and up the stairs when my wife wants to use it, lol
Robert
Oh, that’s funny.
Jason
Last year I got the Rigid 14 gal with car kit and the better filter. Looking like they have it again this year, I think it’s still a good deal.

I too love my Rigid 16 Gallon and it is still performing like a champ after many years. Got it on sale long ago at HD for $69 including the car vac kit. My neighbors ask to borrow it for their cars of sometimes stuff in the garage. I have three washable filter for it and have acquired through the years some plastic tubes for extended use. I have already sent the sale info to my neighbor who said when the price is right he will buy one since mine works so well.
Nathan
I have the SS shop vac and love it. But you know. Where is the sales on hoses and accessories?
I need 2 to 3 hoses in 2.5 and they cost more than the vac it seems
Stuart
Milwaukee AirTip accessories were on sale last year. There are some discounts this year, but not much.
Ridgid’s car cleaning kit is on sale at Home Depot again. That’s about it.

I have an S-ton of stock 2 1/2″ black vacuum hoses that I keep for no good reason. Wish there was some way I could get them to you.
Kevin
For $60, I get the vacuum and pair it with one of the automatic vacuum switches for another $30 or so and avoid moving and hooking up the dust collection on the smaller tools. Just make a dedicated system per tool that are commonly used.
One on the miter saw and one on the Kreg ACS track saw system with the vacuum under the tool or table works pretty well, especially since neither machine makes more than a few cuts at a time. Much easier than bringing the vacuum around for two cuts or working with the 4″ hose as my shop is set up.

The deal you listed in your most recent post for Milwaukee 6 gal vac with 2 free batteries requires purchasing a 2nd bare tool to get the free batteries.

Thanks! *fixed it*

I will say there is a difference in quality between the ‘regular’ ridgid vacs and the ‘hot deal’ ones. We have a bunch of the regular price ridgid vacs at works so I’m very familiar with them. I bought one of these on sale and while it works fine (the suction is the same) the quality of the latches and plastic pieces is much worse than the more expensive ones.
