Boker 2023 Advent Calendar Knife Builder

The Boker Plus 2023 “Build-a-Knife” Advent calendar is now available.

The calendar comes with everything needed to build one complete gentleman’s pocket knife, as well as options to customize it to your individual liking.

Boker says that this will “certainly become a real highlight in any knife collection and the perfect gift for any knife fan.”

Boker 2023 Advent Calendar Example Knife Builds

The Boker Plus kit comes with 2 different blade and 3 handle scale options, as well as clips, tools, and “a few small surprises.”

This year’s knife was designed by Raphaël Durand.

According to different product listings I found, the knife features a lockback design (which we can see in the images), an 80mm (3.15″) blade length, and D2 steel. Handle materials include micarta and carbon fiber, and it looks like you might get satin and stonewashed finish options for the knife blade.

The parts of course come with detailed build instructions.

Price: $127.96

Wera Tools 2023 Advent Calendar

While we’re on the subject of Advent calendars, Wera’s 2023 tool set has started to sell out at US retailers, but is still available at Amazon via 3rd party sellers.

It’s currently priced at $84.49, similar to when it first became available in August.

Hazet’s offering this year looks a lot like a Wera Tool-Check Plus. I’m sure it’s solid quality but it’s nothing all that interesting compared to what they had a couple of years ago. The 2021 version had a really neat idea with a compact ratchet and wrench inserts that fit into the handle. I keep checking back to Hazet’s website to see if they have ever made a larger set like that.

Haus of Tools also seems to have some 2023 and past-year advent calendars:

I find it comical that you build it and possibly pay extra to build it. Is there really satisfaction in that? Maybe I’m becoming cynical but I have better things to do. I played with legos as a kid and graduated long ago. Maybe this is for those less handy people that want to “build” something. It only makes sense if it costs less this way. It annoys me when things need assembly from say harbor freight but even they have a knife that is all assembled with similar specs at 1/3 the cost. I’d rather tinker with legos and help a kid learn to become creative without instructions

This isn’t something I’d buy for myself, but I’d get a kick out of it if I got it as a gift, and would likely use it too. Boker’s Advent calendars sell out every year, sometimes quickly, and so obviously a lot of people find the prospect appealing.

Some people like to take things a part, others like to put something together from a kit.

I’d think handier people would find this more appealing, as it’s an opportunity to see how everything comes together.

I bought a Boker advent calendar last year. It was fun – and you get a good quality knife when you’re done.

There are so many extras in the kit that you’re really just a set of liners away from a whole second knife… which kinda makes me wish I could buy some extra liners.

Looks very similar to last year’s knife. It had two blade and two handle options, including a lovely wood. I purchased two, thinking the kids would like to make their own nice knives. The reveal was too extended for them, and they lost momentum after 10 days, so I ended up putting the knives together.

The quality was a pleasant surprise, as was the inclusion of a sheath, sharpening stone, and microfiber cloth. If it weren’t almost the same as last year’s I’d buy it again.

I’ve been hemming and hawing over this for a few years now. Bit the bullet and ordered two. Something for my son and I to do together even though he’s out on his own…looking forward to it.
