Earlier today I posted about the new Bosch 18V compact cordless reciprocating saw that was announced in Europe. That post had me looking back at the original new tool post, and then updated pricing our of curiousity.
Over at Amazon, the 1-battery kit has dropped in price to $99. The last time I checked a couple of months ago, the price was in the $130s, and $120s before that. $99 is a great price for the 1-battery kit!

But… this saw is also eligible for Bosch’s holiday 2015 $25 off $100 promo. Add any qualifying tool or accessory to your order to push it above $100, and you get $25 off.
Maybe you want a compact reciprocating blade set? Given the small size of this tool, you will want to use smaller blades that Bosch specially designed for this tool and others like it.
Or buy any of these inexpensive Bosch accessories as a filler item to push your order over $100. There are plenty of $1-2 screwdriver bits that could serve this purpose. With one of these, say a $1.59 bit, the price should drop down to $76 or so.
$99 is a good price for this cordless tool kit, $76 is even better!
Update: This deal is not working properly! The saw’s product page says “This Item IS Included in Our Bosch Holiday Promotion,” but the discount is not applying at checkout. Even if you add 2 to your cart, the discount is not being applied automatically. You might be able to contact Amazon customer service to get the deal. They *might* tell you to place your order and they’ll apply the discount manually. Or they might simply say sorry for the error and leave it at that.

Your link to cheap Bosch “filler” items points out what is IMO a real issue that buyers need to check out before they buy. I applaud that Amazon seems to be putting more small items on their “add-on” program to help eliminate the need to inflate prices with “not so free” Prime shipping. But it seems that they may even be building in the shipping costs for some of their small add-on items. An example is :
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dtools&field-keywords=B00QX30FRQ
This 2 piece bit set sells for $3.79 at Home Depot
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-Impact-GOLD-3-Steel-Square-Insert-Bit-2-Piece-B-44725/205755228
– Amazon seems to add another $3.89 – perhaps to cover the real shipping and handling costs
I still continue to buy lots of things on Amazon – but I do some checking to see if a local source is cheaper.

What’s weird about those bits is how they’re only sold at Home Depot and Amazon in smaller capacity. I can’t find them at other major power tool sources. It’s possible that Makita is charging Amazon a higher rate. For a long time these Makita accessories were exclusive to Home Depot.

It does seem a bit weird. But over the last several months I’ve bought many small “consumables” at Home Depot – some I’ve returned because they were cheaper on Amazon – others I’ve kept because Amazon was more expensive (sometimes a fair percentage higher). Like with everything else – it pays to check around and weigh costs and other factors in your buying decisions.
Another thing that I’ve noticed is that Home Depot seems to have “discontinued” the sale (online and in-store) of quite a few Bosch bits that are still available at Amazon.

This practice is not exclusive to Makita products or tools in general. Amazon is definitely adding shipping costs into many of these smaller products. They kind of shot themselves in the foot with the useless Prime program, and now they’re having to work around it. At least when you’re buying from other buyers, they list the prices in a descending order WITH the shipping price added in. Personally, I’d rather see separate “retail” and “shipping” prices so I know whether a product is cheaper at, say, Wal-mart. Of course, that is not good for sales at Amazon because you’re basically announcing that you could find it cheaper elsewhere when you’re paying $4 shipping.
Don’t even get me started on Wal-mart’s online shopping though. That is the biggest mess I’ve ever seen. It is nearly impossible to actually find a product’s price if you’re planning to physically go into Wal-mart in purchase it. Instead, they’ve compiled a list of 10,000 other websites to buy it from.

Prices for the #1 and #2 size at the Amazon link you provided are 3.79 as an add-on item. Looks like there’s just some issue going on with the #3 size.
Hang Fire
Looks like it’s fixed now.

Just placed an order with the stubby blades and contacted an Amazon CSR to apply a $25.00 credit to my account. YMMV! Good luck & thanks for the deal!

The stubby 4″ blades are only really necessary if you need to use the saw in close quarters and/or don’t want to hit something on the other side of whatever you’re cutting in a small area.
I use standard 6″ and 8″ blades on mine all the time, and the saw is so easy to handle that you can even use the blade away from the shoe, as long as it’s not a material the blade will get stuck in.
Great deal at ~$76 with the battery and charger, though keep in mind you will probably get a 1.5Ah “high capacity” battery and not a newer 2.0Ah one.

I’ve had the same experience with the Milwaukee 12V and the Ridgid Jobmax: shorter blades are not a necessity nor is using the foot. These things will cut whatever you want with whatever blade you put on them.

ahh, if only it were Brushless, I’d be all over it.
Drew M
I find it interesting to compare the brushless and brushed versions of the ‘same’ tool. In some cases the brushless is better, in others, not so much. Metabo has a video where they actually show various use cases where one tool is better than the other.

I’ve had this saw for some time now. I don’t use it often but, I sure am glad I have it for the times I do.

This has turned into my pruning saw with a 10″ pruning blade on it. Work fantastic for that! I actually use it quite a bit and give my neighbors quite the envy.

The bare tool with l-boxx insert is now $74.95 on Amazon. $25 off $100 eligible if you get a $25.05 filler.

I love this saw. Looks nearly identical to the Milwaukee version, however the Bosch is much quieter and smoother in operation. Many guys I work with have the Milwaukee and many notice the difference when they use mine.
