Bosch GCM12SD Axial Glide Miter Saw Early Black Friday Sale 2023

For a limited time, the Bosch 12″ dual bevel miter saw (GCM12SD), with its much-coveted axial-glide sliding mechanism, is on sale at an incredible price.

Here’s some context. Last year it was $549 for Black Friday. Last summer it was $524 for Prime Day. Earlier today, the price was $599.

Right now, it’s $449 with free shipping!

Update: Bosch 10″ Axial Glide Miter Saw is Still Available!

Bosch CM10GD 10-inch Axial Glide Miter Saw

The Bosch 12″ axial glide miter saw is no longer eligible for the $150-off coupon. It’s still available for purchase at $599, but the promo code has been deactivated for this tool.

However, the 10″ miter saw saw, model CM10GD IS still eligible and is $589 – $150 with coupon code BOSCHSAVINGS.

Amazon also has the 10″ axial glide miter saw on sale, for $544.21 and a “clickable” coupon for $105.21, bringing the price down to the same $439 with free shipping.

Deal Price: $439 with free shipping

Buy it at Amazon | $439
Buy it at Acme Tools | $439

How are they beating last year’s Black Friday sale pricing? From the looks of it, the saw is promo-priced at $599, but there’s also another Bosch promo right now, where you save $150 off $500+ orders.

Normally, already-discounted tools are excluded from other money-off promotions. Apparently that’s not the case here, and it looks like Amazon reduced their price to match Acme’s.

$449? I’d buy one in a heartbeat if I didn’t already have a test sample of the cordless Profactor version on-hand right now for long-term testing. Bosch’s cordless version is very similar to this 15A corded model, and is on sale at Amazon for $579 right now.

Buy it at Acme Tools

At Acme Tools, add coupon code BOSCHSAVINGS to your cart or at checkout.

I have searched through our Black Friday archives, and have NEVER seen the Bosch GCM12SD 12″ axial glide miter sell for this low.

Here’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday deal pricing for the saw going back a few years:

Black Friday 2017: $519.20 after 20% coupon
Black Friday 2018: $549
Black Friday 2019: $549
Black Friday 2020: $599
Black Friday 2021: $599
Black Friday 2022: $549 (lowest, typically $599)

Bosch 12-inch Axial Glide Miter Saw with Gravity Rise Stand

Home Depot has a different deal of the day promotion, where you get the same 12″ axial glide miter saw and a Bosch rolling miter saw stand for $599 – the same price the saw itself was this morning.

This deal is valid 11/2/23, unless supplies sell out sooner.

Update: This bundle deal has expired.

Deal Price: $599

Should You Buy it?

Were you looking to buy the Bosch 12″ axial glide miter saw this season? Then YES, I think $449 is an unbeatable deal, and $599 for the bundle is just as good – if not better!

Are you on the fence?

The biggest downside to the Bosch axial glide miter saw is its weight. It’s great for the workshop, for rolling to a jobsite, or carrying out of a garage and to the driveway to get some work done. But if you need to carry a miter saw throughout a building or a long distance from your truck to the jobsite, it’s heavier than other 12″ sliding miter saws.

However, its weight is due to the gliding mechanism, which requires a far smaller benchtop or worktop footprint than traditional sliding miter saws. This means you can place it on a workbench without needing the abundance of rear clearance that sliding saws require.

Without enough rear clearance, traditional sliding miter saw carriages can slam into the wall behind a workbench.

Should You Buy it Now?

A reader asked me if I can talk them out of the Home Depot bundle deal, and that’s when I spotted the price drop on just the saw by itself.

I don’t think we’ll see pricing better than this, and there’s a risk this deal pricing could be temporary.

It all comes down to when the $150 off $500+ promotion will end – I don’t see any expiration dates mentioned – and whether Bosch intended for it to apply to the already-discounted 12″ miter saw.

A lot of retailer shave this saw price-fixed at $599 right now, discounted from $649. My records show that $549 was the best price for Black Friday last year, and $524 for Prime Day. $449 makes this a very HOT DEAL.

Given the saw’s weight, $599 for the saw and gravity-rise miter saw stand – which retails for over $300 on Amazon right now is also a very good deal. If you’re moving the saw long distances, that gravity-rise rolling miter saw stand is going to be a big convenience.

What About the Cordless Model?

I have been testing the Bosch 18V Profactor model, which retails for $579 on Amazon right now.

This class of miter saw is not as portable as others. It excels in workshop settings and is portable enough to carry short distances – or roll for longer stretches to the jobsite. It’s not ideal for hand-carrying long distances.

I think that most users will be using this saw close to an AC outlet.

For context, I wouldn’t buy a corded 7-1/4″ sliding miter saw these days. That class of saws are great for carrying single handled to where the work needs to be done, and cordless makes far more sense to me.

But here, for users who don’t need cordless convenience, I’d go corded, which makes these deals extremely compelling and hard to resist.

What about the 10″? I tested one a while back. I thought it would be lighter and more portable. It wasn’t.

The 10″ model is $589 at Acme Tools right now, or $439 after using the same $150 off coupon.

Unless you specifically don’t want a 12″ miter saw, I’d choose the 12″ over the 10″ these days, especially with the 12″ selling at $449 for just the saw or $599 with the rolling stand.

So very tempted. I love my upgraded DWS779 but I have to move the stand around to use it because of the rear clearance.

That’s exactly where Bosch’s gliding miter saws excel.

I’m having a hard time resisting. It might sell out or the deal might end abruptly, making the decision for me.

From my end it looks like they sold out and removed the listing. It’s only available now via 3rd party sellers.

          Hmm. That’s really weird.

When I look at the page from my consumer Amazon account or private browser window, the listing is gone. When I look at it from my business account, it’s $449 without any coupons – similar to what I saw earlier.

Lucky for me they sold out. It’s the kind of thing that is super tempting at the price, but that I absolutely don’t need. The miter saws I have already are just fine.

Almost pulled the trigger on this one though.

I just received word that Bosch had excluded the 12″ miter saw from the coupon/added savings promotion.

However, the 10″ saw is still eligible (for now). I’ve updated the post.

          Thank you for the heads-up!

I used Lowe’s 10% veteran discount to get the saw for $540, and paid for it with $25 gift cards that I got for $20 each (Military Exchange). Not including tax, my actual cost was about $432.

If I were doing it now, I’d go for the saw with stand and use the vet discount. Great saw, but you’re not kidding that it’s heavy, so I could really use the rolling stand. I’d rank its accuracy and precision well ahead of any SCMS I’ve used, but still behind a well-tuned, classic DeWalt radial arm saw.

I bought an Axial Glide saw last winter and love it. However, I wish I had the stand that was included in this deal for moving the saw around when it’s not on the workbench in my basement.

    This is a phenomenal deal.

Stuart, have you done a breakdown recently of recommended miter saws? I know there kind of a few subcategories (cheap 10in single bevel, nicer double bevel, sliding 10, sliding 12?), but what are people gravitating towards as the most common right answers?

The knock that I’ve read against 12s and sliders is reduction in accuracy. Has anyone actually noticed that? Or is it just the highest precision furniture makers that can see a difference? And does this crazy articulating mechanism (that will wear over time and possibly become sloppy?) make it worse?

      That’s a tough one.

It comes down to user needs, perceived needs, and what’s.

I’ll add this to my list for after the new year.

I make several pieces of furniture per year – so I’m not in a position to talk about how my GCM12SD would do in a production mode. But, for the hardwood moldings that I cut for furniture – I use it only for rough cuts of larger trim – doing the final finishing either on a shooting board or with my Lion Trimmer.
For tiny trim moldings I don’t use a powered saw at all – even though I have an old Bosch Fine Cut Saw (1640VS) – I more often use a fine-tooth backsaw and manual miter box. I just feel that the manual approach provides more control.
As far as slop with the axial-glide arm – I have not seen any in my saw – that’s now over 10 years old – but I don’t use it every day – nor have I tried to see if I can put lateral loads on it to get it to wear out. Other sliders tool have some potential for wear – as bearings age. Years ago we had a few Delta sidekick (33-060) 6.5 inch saws that had a 2-rail carriage with a 3rd stabilizing rod. The saws had some other issues – were mostly used for flooring – but I always thought that the triangular geometry of the rails and rod was very solid.

I’m far from an expert, but I have noticed that the big Milwaukee slider at the tool library/shop where I volunteer goes out of alignment kind of often. I’ve taken to checking it before every session. I can’t tell if it’s wear or poor design. It’s the vertical adjustment in particular.

Both the young GC dude and the old fart woodworker (his term) tell me that miter saws aren’t particularly accurate. Old Fart says woodworkers just starting out should get a table saw first, and use sleds for accurate angled cuts and crosscuts.

An old article in Fine Woodworking recommends NON-sliding 12″ miter saws for woodworking because of their greater accuracy.

But not everybody needs the same accuracy. I’d suggest renting or borrowing a simple chop saw to see if it’s accurate enough, or accurate enough for rough cuts that you can clean up with a shooting board. Also, I think most woodworkers will rarely need to cut compound miters. I could be wrong.

I’ve found no accuracy problems with mine when I let the saw do the work. When I try to force it or rush is when I run into a bit of trouble sometimes.

Where the axial mechanism might develop slop can be fixed with a new hinge pin

Where a slide can wear you might have to replace the slide and the bearings

Not sure which is easier to tune. I decide for all that I will cut a non slide 12 is plenty

      I started thinking about that.

It seems to me the bearings in the two arms in the Axial Glide will wear differently. Both arms constrain movement in one plane (so together, they constrian movement into one line), but only one arm bears weight. I think the bearings on that arm will wear faster (and I’m sure it’s bearings, not just a hinge pin.)

Further, those bearings only swing 90 degrees. So that quadrant of the bearing will take all of the wear. Only a few rollers or balls will take the load, and so will only a quarter of the races (and other types of bearings will have a similar issue.) So the expected lifetime of the bearings will be 1/4 what they would be in other settings (where they might make complete rotations.)

So what will happen over time? I guess those bearings will develop slop, so the arm might sag slightly. That’s not a big deal, maybe. But slop might also cause the arm to pivot left and right slightly. That will make cuts less clean and accurate.

What would be a better design? A different manufacturer (I forget who) uses two jointed arms like the Axial Glide, but instead of one vertical and one horizontal, one arm is tiled left 45 degrees and the other is tilted right. This distributes the weight evenly between the two arms. That seems like a better design.

And there are saws with regular slider rails, but projecting forward, so the motor slides on the fixed rails instead of the rails sliding on the fixed base. That saves rear space too, and seems simpler overall, without the need for expensive, high precision sealed bearings. Probably lighter too, because there are no heavy arm castings.

But I imagine bearings can be made to any level of precision and durability. I imagine in practice the Bosch bearings will last long enough.

Same thing keeps me from pulling the trigger on this as well.

Yeah, a zero clearance insert covers about 80% of that functionality and with a touch more accuracy but once you’ve used the shadow line cast across both planes of the stock, it’s hard to go without it.

      It’s early November.

An aggressive discount this time of year means a win for one brand and loss for all the others.

Someone who buys a miter saw now is unlikely to buy one for Black Friday.

What happens if Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals come around and are just okay?

      Early deep discounts discouraging waiting.

This isn’t exactly a rice drop, but a sale price ($599) coupled with a brand-wide discount (buy more save more).

Home Depot’s deal seems strategic, the saw-only deal seems consequential.

Similar happens every year with different products, it’s just a matter of catching everything aligning.

This deal put me in a bit of a panic. In the past, it was specifically excluded from a lot of discounts and promotions, or such discounts only worked on the full price. I saw $449 as a “I’d better hurry up and get the word out before someone at Bosch realizes what they did!” type of promo price.

It also wasn’t there this morning. Somehow it went from $599 to $449 at around noon.
