I have had good experiences with my Bosch 1/4 sheet sander, and I would have bought this 5″ random orbit sander (or its predecessor) at the same time too, but that’s a long story about how I built up my woodworking tool collection with credit card reward gift cards.

All you really need to know is that this is a well-regarded random orbit sander that’s known to be a good performer. Bosch’s sanders, routers, and jigsaws are usually good buys. I own a couple of Bosch woodworking tools and they’ve been absolutely fabulous to work with so far.
The sander features a 2.5A motor, standard hook and loop sanding pad, and variable speed dial, and comes with a vacuum hose adapter and microfilter dust box. It comes with a soft backing pad that you can change out if you prefer an optional softer or harder pad instead. There’s also an optional soft backing pad for PSA (self-adhesive) sanding discs.

This is a great sander. I make cradle frames (wood panel frames) on the side and this has served me well. Love the variable speed. Before this, I was using a couple Dewalt sheet sanders. Didn’t like the hassle of adjusting the sandpaper, punching holes or the rips. I bought the Bosch sander about a year ago. However, after seeing your post a couple weeks ago for the Dewalt 20v Brushless sander, I had to try it. Awesome as well. Like the maneuverability without the cord. Powerful enough for any application I’ll ever use it for despite some reviews. I’m still going to keep the Bosch. Thumbs up on both the Dewalt cordless and this Bosch.

anyway point being. Amazing sander and now is the time to get one as like said int he post they often retail for 69 or more during the rest of the year.

Same sentiment here, this is a nice sander for the price. My only complaint comes from sessions of extended sanding when the vibration numbs my hands. I haven’t taken any of the higher end sanders for a spin, but I am guessing they manage vibration a little better.

to be fair at that pont if you were spending that much time you might should have had a larger sander.
Only one smoother I’ve ever used was a festool and a flex – both of which were double significant dollars more.
One day I’ll buy the bosch 6 inch counterpart to this. I also think I might end up with a dewalt planner before too long.

Great sander, no complaints. Recommended as a “first” power sander.
$55-60 is a good price for this; $49 is a great price.
Finally, don’t get this confused with a similar Bosch model that lacks the variable speed; that model is almost always around $50ish.

FYI, the $20 off $100 deal ends today at 11:59 PM PST. I’m straddling the fence on this one. Have an 18 year old Dewalt random orbit sander (DW423K) that is decent. Not sure how much of an improvement this would be.

I bought this (or maybe an earlier version) about 5 years ago and it has been great. I have used it for everything from woodworking to drywall and paint prep. The dust collection is pretty good, but I recommend buying a dust port adapter kit from HD if you have a larger shop vac and want to avoid frequent clean outs.

I’ve had this sander for a year. Always on the lookout for trees cut in the winter to make slab tables. My Bosch sander combined with awesome Diablo Sandnet pads almost make sanding a pleasure. Well, not quite a pleasure but tolerable. This Bosch dust collection is excellent.
