Bug Notice: Front Page Image Swaps with iPad iOS 8 and Safari

Two readers have notified me about an issue with the site when browsing using an iPad, iOS 8, and their Safari browser.

For reasons I have not yet figured out, Safari is swapping images on the front page of ToolGuyd. There seems to be a bug in the order Safari loads images sent by the server.

Clearing the cache does not seem to be a resolution.

There is nothing I can find on ToolGuyd’s end to resolve this. The only solution right now is for iPad iOS 8 users to download Chrome and use that as your browser instead of Safari.

If anyone has seen weird image-swapping issues with any other browser or device, please let me know! I assume that this issue might plague iPhone users who have updated to iOS 8 as well, but this is unconfirmed.

I noticed this yesterday. It seems that the number of images doesn’t match with the articles. Reloading seems to help though.

Since downloading IOS8 on my iPad I cannot upload images online! I can on my iPhone 5s but… I also only use Chrome so I’m not sure what is going on!!!

This is happening on my iphone 5s. Doesnt seem
To be limited to just the ipad. Ive been experiencing this problem with the site since I made the upgrade to ios8 on my phone.

iOS 8 has had many issues. iOS 8.1 was a few hours worth of disaster and now iOS 8.2 seems to be an acknowledged major fix.

And on this iPhone 6 I’ve not seen the issues you guys have noted. Though I’ve only used iOS 8 and iOS 8.2. And I’ve never downloaded Chrome. So far. ;-)~

I tried this yesterday, and 8.0.2 did not fix the problem. It did lower the obviousness of the issue, but some images in the sidebar and lower down the front page were still affected.

Clearing Safari website data didn’t make things better or worse.

That’s. Why I told myself I’d keep 6.0 forever, and I was forced in to 7 something…when apps stopped working. Only now Safari is a one big glitch constantly freezing up an not opening embeded videos.

In my book it has proven that updates only make things worse…like G mail, kbb and many others. Every time I update, I regret it. I hate apple but I guess you got to pick lesser of two evils.

What angers me the most is those pigs force you to update. So mad!

Wowh , got so emotional forgot the main point….which was that I’ll be fighting 8.0 till the end!

Yeah, Stu, I’m running 8 on my iPad and noticed the images screwed up. In fact for your latest post on the Monolith Studio Orbit 1 Metal Coater, I’m seeing an image of 2 knives. With that being said, I’m off to see if there’s some way to uninstall the update. No holding my breath on it though.

The pictures are swapped on the main page for me too. The other pages look right.

I’m a developer and I have a couple client complaining about the same issue with their sites. Let me know if you come across anything helpful.

I still haven’t found any information about how this can be fixed. The issue seems to be isolated to iOS 8+ and Safari.

The only lead is that this could be an image pipeline issue, although I don’t understand the finer details. My understanding is that Safari requests images, the server delivers them in the most efficient order, and Safari plugs the images into the order they were requested instead of where they belong. This doesn’t make a lot sense to me.

Since this problem isn’t reproducible outside iOS 8+ with Safari, I’m inclined to believe it’s an Apple bug, rather than something I could fix with my code or server settings.

I’ve noticed the issue too as someone else put in a topic on the Apple forums. I’m really suprised not more people have mentioned this in the forums. I’m worried that without more awareness, this bug will go unnoticed in the next bug fix release:
