SK Hand Tools Declares Bankruptcy!!

Jun 29, 2010 Stuart 4 Comments

It’s official, SK Hand Tools has declared bankruptcy. Rumor of the bankruptcy was relayed by a GarageJournal forum member, and then confirmed by another after receiving an email from an SK distributor. It is also rumored that Ideal Industrials, who recently acquired Pratt-Read and Western Forge, is interested in buying up the company. We have our fingers crossed. If […]

Sears to Sell Craftsman Tools at Ace Hardware

Jun 10, 2010 Stuart 12 Comments

To help improve sales, Sears has agreed to sell Craftsman branded tools through Ace Hardware. Early reports are saying that the partnership will start with 100 Ace stores carrying about 10% of the Craftsman product line by May. It has not yet been decided if Sears will roll out this “store-within-a-store Craftsman offering” to all 4500 […]

Update About Home Depot Patent Infringement Suit

May 13, 2010 Stuart 5 Comments

Yesterday we mentioned a judgement against Home Depot for copying a patented saw design that they refused to pay the inventor for. I searched for additional information about this online, but without pulling the court documents, we have no choice but to rely on secondary sources. After scouring the web a bit, a few additional […]

Yet Another Table Saw Safety Lawsuit

Apr 14, 2010 Stuart 7 Comments

Breaking News: Man buys $600 saw, injures self, sues over lack of features included in $1600 saw. Although you cannot see it, I am rolling my eyes and sighing dramatically. Following a recent lawsuit where an injured man won a settlement against Ryobi, a Chicago man is now suing Bosch over injuries inflicted while using […]

Stanley Black & Decker Merger Complete

Mar 29, 2010 Stuart 4 Comments

The anticipated merger between Stanley and Black & Decker was finalized about two weeks on 3/12. I don’t think that the new company will start joint branding their existing product lineup, at least not anytime soon, but one thing is certain – they definitely need a new logo. Craftsman Rewards Program Major Changes

Mar 9, 2010 Stuart 10 Comments

Well, it appears that the Craftsman Rewards Program is undergoing major changes as it is absorbed into the Sears Shop Your Way rewards program. This is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.

Gearwrench Tool Wall at Advance Auto Parts

Dec 3, 2009 Stuart 5 Comments

I stopped by Advance Auto the other day and noticed a rather prominent and huge Gearwrench tool display. Screwdrivers, sockets, pliers, ratchets and adapters, sets, oh my! I believe I also saw a “Danaher Tools” banner in a corner of the store window as I walked in, so perhaps additional Danaher tool lines will soon be carried by Advance.

Craftsman Tools Now Available at Amazon – With a Catch!?

Oct 11, 2009 Stuart 7 Comments

Please excuse the tone of this post as I am both excited and horrified. Well, now they’ve launched a new rewards program where purchases earn you points that can be redeemed […]

Doctors Use Household Drill for Surgery

May 21, 2009 Stuart Discuss

A few days ago in Austrailia, a doctor used a household drill to bore into a 13 year old’s skull to relieve pressure on his brain due to a blood clot. The drill was sourced from the maintenance closet since the hospital was not equipped with any neurological drills. Now I’m wondering, what drill was […]

Sears VP Stands Behind Craftsman Guarantee

Mar 25, 2009 Stuart 8 Comments

The Consumerist recently ran a string of posts discussing the troubles one person had in trying to exchanged rounded Craftsman sockets. Some of the replacement-denial excuses given by Sears associates conflicted with previously stated official policies, and one even seems to have been outright fabricated. Brian, a lifelong Craftsman user, unsuccessfully tried to exchange nine rounded […]
