Gorilla, the folks that make Gorilla Glue and a line of heavy duty duct tape-like repair tapes, has come out with a new clear version of their popular tape.
The new Gorilla clear repair tape is said to have Gorilla Tape strength, which is very encouraging, as the Gorilla tapes we’ve tried and quite strong and robust.

Like ordinary Gorilla Tape, including the camo-colored version that came out in 2011, the new clear Gorilla Tape features an extra thick adhesive layer and a notched edge design for easy blade-free tearing, It is also waterproof, airtight, highly transparent, and non-yellowing.

For general purpose use where you don’t need a clear tape, regular Gorilla Tape is priced at about $9 (via Amazon) for a 1.88 in x 35 yard tape.
The clear tape has a unit price of about $0.40 per foot, while the general purpose tape is priced at about $0.081 per foot. In other words, the clear tape costs nearly 5x as much as the standard dark grey tape. Just something to keep in mind.

The BLACK Gorilla tape is superior to common “duck” tape. Gaffer’s tape is another alternative; easy to tear, can frequently be reused and not gummy. Amazon has several brands of it.

Gorilla Tape vs. duct tape (I prefer Duck-brand, myself) is a very tough consideration. Gorilla Tape is stickier, but also outgasses a lot. In other words, it’s stinky. The adhesive is extremely strong. Duck duct tape is more forgiving, nowhere as gentle as blue painters tape or gaffers tape though.
I have a roll of Gorilla Tape and maybe 6 rolls of colored Duck duct tape in my tape box.

Gorilla tape vs. duct tape are definitely different products. I tell people to only use Gorilla tape if they NEVER want it removed..it can be done but the result isn’t usually pretty. Duct tape can be used for more of a patchwork or temporary fix. One should have rolls of both as they don’t replace one another. This new clear version looks like a good product that could come in handy in lots of applications.

Glad to see Gorilla brand products are still American made as well. Very crucial information there.

The clear gorilla tape is made in America… unfortunately, the standard black gorilla tape is made in China ?.

Take a look at gaffer’s tape if you want something that’ll peel cleanly but sticks well. It also tears off the roll straight. That’s the stuff stagehands use exclusively for nearly everything.

I have an underwater camera that I use the clear tape to add extra waterproofing to the battery door. Works great.

I want to try the tape in my car to hold down a piece of Velcro to keep my center console closed after the latch broke. The adhesive on the Velcro melted off. I have tried regular duct tape, but because the car heats up in the sun, the duct tape failed and came undone. Will the Gorilla Clear Repair tape stand up to heat?
Roderick
It should hold very, I live in the caribbean and stuck my vehicle registration disk to the windshield with clear gorilla tape it has been on there since December 2017.

Do they make tan or brown Gorilla Tape?
Stuart
I don’t think so. I’ve seen black and camo, and a Google search turns up white as well.
