Today’s Home Depot special buy deal of the day features a selection of outdoor power tools.
My parent’s blower has been on the fritz, and so personally I’m looking at the Ego cordless blower for them. I might buy it after I have a chat with them.

Milwaukee’s M18 Fuel blower (bare tool) is also included in the sale, for $99. It’s a very powerful blower, although I find it to be a bit loud. It’s definitely quieter than gas blowers, but is louder (to my ears at least) than less capable compact blowers that I prefer to use for quick tasks.
Also noteworth is an Ego walk-behind 20″ cordless lawn mower kit, on sale for $499.

Which Milwaukee blower is that? I was confused when trying to figure out if the 2724 or 2728 was the newer model. Milwaukee’s website wasn’t much help as they list the 2728 under OPE and I had to search for the 2724, but I think the 2724 has the higher MPH.
Thanks!
Tim
You are correct, the 2724 is the second gen blower, the 2728 is the first generation one. The deal of the day is on the first gen 2728.

Ego all the way!
Once you understand how much power is required to run OPE, you’ll realize that an 18V tool platform is seriously limited… at nearly triple the voltage there’s no contest, and Ego’s stuff is much cheaper to boot with battery Engineering that’s WAY ahead of anything available from the power tool brands.
The smaller batteries are great for smaller tools, not so much OPE.

I agree – that Ego blower is, uh, well, perfect. Really. And because of it, I’m planning on getting the string trimmer in the same family (and ditching the gas model we have).

Already got the EGO chainsaw, great for the smaller tasks. Just ordered the blower kit, for the bigger battery as well. The dewalt 20v blower just hasn’t been up to snuff with the snow clearing, hoping this works much better.
Am also planning on getting the string trimmer, like you. Found out they make a power handle that takes attachments, including a pole saw and edger, so i guess i found my OPE setup.
Chris
Engineering wise how do they make batteries that are WAY ahead of anything else available from the power tool brands?
Dan
Agree, i’d like to hear what they are doing better.
I know one thing they are behind the power tools brands on, the battery gauge on Ego batteries are useless.
Their tools do have a lot of positive reviews and spec wise they look great.
I’m yet to see a Flexvolt OPE VS Ego however, so I’m looking forward to seeing which one comes out on top between these two.
Wayne
I don’t know that the batteries are “way ahead” or anything like that, but overall, the tool is thoughtfully designed and works well – that right there is unusual.
Regarding the battery in the blower: It’s 56V and pretty large, physically; the default capacity is 2.5Ah with larger capacities available to 7.5Ah. The charger is fast, too, so that one battery doesn’t badly jam up the workflow.
And regarding the battery in the tool design, it’s very well balanced, and pretty light-weight too. The air intake is central and does not suck up shirttails or jacket ends. The “Turbo” button isn’t a joke, either, it really unjams wet leaf piles well.
It’s way better than the old POS Black & Decker we had before.

I have the Ego blower. I purposely held out getting a battery operated blower till I could get to somewhere that had a Home Depot. I really like the blower. It’s great for quick cleanups after mowing or dusting out the garage. I also use it to blow the snow off of vehicles or clean off small snow dustings on the driveway and sidewalks.
I still rely on my gas backpack blower for big spring/fall yard clean ups or slightly heavier snowfalls. It isn’t necessarily a power issue, more of a longer runtime issue. For the convenience I would buy the Ego again in a heartbeat, but if you need long runtime you either need multiple high capacity batteries or a gas blower.

Thanks for this tip! I never thought about using a “leaf” blower to blow snow off cars and sidewalk! I just did it and it’s great. It was a light powdery snow, not sure how it will handle the heavy stuff, but it sure was quick.
Tyler
Glad I could help. They are used year around here. A lot of snow removal crews carry backpack blowers for light snows. Easier on the crews and usually just as fast.
IJK
Follow up on the Ego Blower. Bought it during this sale, just used it the other day after a 4″ powdery snowfall. With the “flat” nozzle attached, it was even removing chunks of packed down snow! So yeah, power definitely is not a problem. Battery ran out way too quick, though. Only cleared 2 cars’ worth of space on the driveway.

I passed on a deal at HD for a $99 EGO blower last spring and regretted it. I thought this was the same deal, but this blower deal doesn’t include a battery and charger.
Tim
I think that deal last year was for the 530 CFM blower they also carry (and the one the stores actually stocked back then), this one is the 575 CFM model, so a bit more powerful among other things. The kitted version also has a 5Ah battery instead of the 2.5 Ah you get with the 530 CFM kit.
I believe the cruise control and trigger are also different between the two models, noticeable in that the 575 doesn’t have a turbo button.
