Dewalt Pilot Point Impact Ready Drill Bits

Quite some time ago, we reviewed Dewalt’s Impact Ready drill bits. While I’m not a fan of hex-shanked drill bits, these uni-bodied bits were actually quite decent. These impact-rated bits are the only ones I’ll ever use in an impact driver. The fit is not quite as secure as if I were to use a standard jobber-length twist bit in a 3-jaw drill chuck, but it’s fine for most applications.

Previously only available from industrial suppliers for ~$60, this 10-piece impact drilling set is now available on Amazon for $38. I’ve used these bits in everything – wood, steel, aluminum, and (if I recall correctly,) plastic, and their performance has been stellar.

You can also use these bits in an ordinary non-impacting drill, but you’ll get more out of your money using standard bits, such as these Dewalt Pilot Point drill bits that we recommend.

The thing about these drill bit sets is that all I see is the empty space inside the plastic case. I just don’t need all that un-usable air inside my tool carrier. I would rather have a flat fold ballistic nylon case, like the “case” that Bosch uses for its spade bit sets. Such a good design. Sure the actual bits are going to be dcent quality.

The reason that they include the case is not for our benefit, but rather it gives more frontage to the packaging.

heres the Bosch flat bit storage for example.

Other brands, Bosch included, have a few bit cases that are as space-inefficient as this one. Dewalt’s smaller bit sets come in smallish Tough Cases, but your point about the empty space still stands. This is usually inevitable because the cases are 2-3 sizes fit all.

Dewalt’s magnetic ToughCase, on the other hand, doesn’t have any separators, so you can pack it to the brim. It does rattle a little when carried, so I don’t usually store any sharp drilling or cutting bits in there, only screwdriver bits and random accessories.

I have one or two Bosch canvas sleeves, and while they come in handy, I’m not a huge fan of them. The ones I have just can’t hold enough to be worth the trouble, so I had to repurpose a larger case.
