Amazon has slashed the price of this Dewalt 20V Max 5Ah battery 2-pack (DCB205-2) down to ~$98 with free shipping.
At this price, you get 10Ah of total charge capacity for just under $100, resulting in cost ratio of around $9.80 per amp-hour. This beats Dewalt’s best holiday deals on batteries so far.
At the time of this posting, the battery 2-pack is being sold and shipped directly by Amazon.

Is this Really a Good Deal?
YES! When in doubt, look at the price per amp-hour of charge capacity.
Looking at all of the other holiday deals and special buys on Dewalt batteries right now, the best value comes from the 4x 3Ah batteries for $129, which results in a cost ratio of $10.75 per amp-hour.
This deal gets you the higher capacity 5Ah batteries at a $9.80 per Ah ratio.

Should You Buy it?
I continue to use these same batteries, as they offer a good balance between size, weight, and power delivery.
Dewalt has higher performing, longer lasting, and more compact batteries. The 5Ah battery is still very capable, and the price right now is hard to beat.

No XR labeling but these are as good as cell batteries go?
Stuart
Same 5Ah batteries, just new labeling.

18650 2.5Ah cells.
These are 10-cell battery packs. There’s also a 5-cell 21700 4Ah battery for $59 right now.
Power delivery between 5x 21700 and 10x 18650 is going to be roughly comparable. These 5Ah batteries will deliver longer runtime compared to the compact 4Ah.

Looks like this might already be dead…. They still show it as in-stock, but the price comes up as $131.99. Too bad — was a great price!

Thanks – I added a note to the title. It’s worth checking back, but it looks like the deal’s over.

I just can’t buy OEM batteries from Amazon. Especially DeWalt. Nearly impossible to determine authenticity – the fakes have gotten really really really good. And Amazon’s shared binning means you might get a fake, while the other guys posting reviews are getting genuine goods.
I refuse to buy this category from Amazon until they clean up their act.

I had the same issue when I bought DeWalt batteries in Amazon. The battery arrived in a ziplock bag in an unlabeled box and something just looked off with the battery itself but I could see it fooling most people.
I found this on Reddit and determined I likely had a very good game and returned it.

Did you buy from Amazon direct, or the many 3rd party listings?
Ever since they sent me used and damaged pliers, I realized they don’t check returns very carefully – that could also lead to counterfeits being mixed into regular inventory. https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/amazon-sent-me-used-broken-knipex-pliers/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

It was fulfilled by Amazon but technically being sold by a different seller. After reading about how Amazon inventory uses shared bins for the same product regardless of seller I decided the risk wasn’t worth it and just waited for a sale at Home Depot.
Stuart
That’s going to be a mixed bag then. 3rd party inventory like that on Amazon could have been purchased from Home Depot for resale, counterfeit, or even stolen. Very few 3rd party sellers on Amazon are authorized dealers.

Based on my usage, not tests, I think the 6Ah batteries deliver more than the 5Ah. More than 6/5 suggests. But this deal has the 5Ah for $9.80/Ah while the Lowes deal has the 6Ah at about $14/Ah. The 6 Ah are not that much better.
If I needed this size battery I would be buying more 5Ah.
Stuart
6Ah is 10x 21700 cells. In more demanding tools, they could potentially run cooler and last longer.

Last time I jumped on a good DeWalt battery deal through Amazon was this past summer. I got a pair of 5 Ah with date stamp of 2019. Good deal or not, I returned them. I don’t know for sure but sitting unused on a shelf for so long has got to affect a battery’s overall life?
Lyle
I think they can last pretty long on the shelf because they are shipped at a capacity that is compatible with long term storage. That’s been my experience anyways. I’ve bought tools that were new old stock with old date codes and all those batteries are doing fine. I was also initially worried but it’s turned out to be ok.

This deal came back on Saturday. Price slightly different at $99.60. Was able to order 2 sets and they’ve already arrived.
