Over at Amazon, this Dewalt 20V Max 9-tool cordless power tool combo kit dropped in price to $499. It doesn’t seem to be a deal of the day, so I’m not quite sure what’s going on.
I added this kit, DCK940D2, and several others to my shopping card, predicting that they would be holiday season deals of the day or similar. But there doesn’t seem to be any obvious expiration.

There do seem to be limited quantities – I see an “only 11 left in stock (more on the way)” notice.

You get a holiday season-version drill/driver, combo kit versions of the circular saw and reciprocating saw which lack one or two features of the more premium versions, and the other tools seem to be regular versions of all the respective tools and accessories.
You might want to pick up a higher capacity battery pack or two separately, but the 2.0Ah compact battery packs will always be good to pair the smaller tools with.

While this might not be the kit I’d personally pick out for myself, it offers a very good selection of tools at high bang for the buck value. I’d feel compelled to upgrade the drill and as mentioned pick up a larger battery pack to power those saw’s with.
I’ve been spoiled by some of the technologies that I’ve grown used to, such as brushless motors and multi-speed impact drivers. But with kits like this, you trade off advanced features and premium designs for sheer functionality.
I’m always keeping an eye out for deals on a Dewalt 6-tool plus angle grinder kit, and a 5-tool brushless combo kit.

It might seem that way, but these kits are specially built for the holiday season.
Someone said similar about the M12 Fuel Packout bundles. But no, the amount of tools that must be built for holiday season promos? They’re special orders, and intentional production.
Now, in January? That might be a holiday season clearance. But now? I really doubt it. Stores clearance out tools before the holiday season, to clear out space, or afterwards, to prepare for the next season.

How do drills and circ saws (like you mentioned in the post) have “holiday season-version” how does it differ from a standard tool?

This drill is typically only promoted during holiday shopping seasons, such as the winter holiday season, and around Father’s Day.
It’s larger and less powerful compared to the other Dewalt drills, and in the standalone kit it’s bundled with lower capacity battery packs. It’s basically an entry-level drill designed to be cheap.

I was surprised when I found out about the saw differences, but my views have since softened a little.
Basically, they’re slightly less featured (and presumably cheaper) versions of the saws you would get if you bought a bare tool or standalone tool kit.
The saw looks to have a different shoe, and the reciprocating saw a shorter stroke length (1″ vs 1-1/8″) and lacks the 4-way blade clamp of the premium model (DCS380).
Those are the glaring differences, and I can’t tell if there are others.

Ohhh. Thanks for directing me to that post. I was kind of dissapointed last Christmas when I saw that the recip saw didn’t have an adjustable shoe or a 4-way blade clamp. Now I know why.

Only that Dewalt ‘All Brushless ‘tool combo is worth buying. Most of those tools are sub par at best ,except the oscillator,which is probably the best on the market

I agree brushed tools are like yesterdays NiCad stuff. Dewalt should try to distance themselves from both as they try to be the premium brand. Leave it to B&D. Pretty sad when Ryobi and Porter Cable have higher end features than some Dewalt.

The bare tool circular saw is $99, the bare tool brushless circular saw is $139-159.
Some users will benefit from going brushless, others won’t.
If Dewalt got rid of their brushed tools, that would be a horrendously terrible business decision that hurts them and users alike.

You should try the cordless Fein, it makes the DeWalt feel like a clumsy stone age tool.

This would be a great kit for a teen looking to get into the trades as well as invest in the 20v max lineup. I got something similar with fewer tools last Christmas and since then have picked up 4 bare tools, and a couple batteries.
