A new Dewalt abrasive blasting cabinet, model DXCM009-0370, recently appeared at online retailers.
The Dewalt blast cabinet features a hood-style door for easier loading and unloading, adjustable leg heights, and foot-operated air controls.
According to the details, it’s aimed at users looking to remove rust or paint from automotive parts and other types of equipment.

The average air consumption is 20 CFM at 90 PSI.
Additional features include a media vibrator for consistent flow, a cyclone for dust management (a bucket and lid are not included), large viewing window, and 40 lb media capacity.
Dewalt added other items to their air equipment over the past few months, such as a new FRL (filter, regulator, lubricator) unit at Amazon, and braided polyurethane air hoses in several sizes.
Discussion
This doesn’t seem like big news to me, but it’s interesting to see Dewalt delve deeper into automotive and industrial air-powered tools, accessories, and equipment.
Hopefully they’ll come out with a good benchtop unit too. I still don’t have the space for an air compressor large enough to run a full-size blasting cabinet like this one.

I’m always happy to see branching out and innovation, and DeWalt is not afraid to throw stuff at a wall to see what sticks, sometimes for worse, but many times for better, thus the loyal fanbase.
This blast cabinet looks pretty decent from what I can tell, I wonder if DeWalt actually made it or subbed it out.
I say that because Dewalt arent afraid to license their name to smaller companies who actually make the products, like how the latest Quiet Series vacuums are made by Alton Industries out of Chicago (who also make Stanley, Porter Cable, and Ecomax branded wet/dry vacs).
I suspect that’s what this is here, I think an established sand/media blasting company was approached by DeWalt to make this blast cabinet with certain R&D bankrolled by DeWalt.
This is no criticism of DeWalt, it’s relatively standard practice when it’s outside of a tool companies wheelhouse to team up with other companies.
Festool, Makita, Metabo, Milwaukee and others have used Nilfisk to make their vacuums for instance; Makita has teamed up with Ogura Tools in Japan to make Rebar cutting and hole punch tools, and they also teamed up with Huck to make an XGT Huck riveter which costs $10,000.
Milwaukee, Ridgid, Ryobi, and others have Keter plastic out of Israel make there storage boxes as well.
If DeWalt make a cordless media blaster to go with this, similar to the BLSTR that has just launched on Kickstarter, that would be incredible; but I suspect this is for traditional sandblasting given the setup.

I’m sure they subbed this out. Like you said: no criticism of Dewalt here, it’s just a bit outside their normal wheelhouse. Aside from the color scheme it looks eerily similar to an “ATD” I had more than 20 years ago. Even the way the leg extensions bolted on was nearly exactly the same. There’s not much R&D in a cabinet like this.
Now a cordless blaster would be new and different indeed.

It is a licensed product. If any DeWalt model starts with with DX, it is a licensed product.
Peter
I did not know that.
Thank you.

Thx man. I too never knew this.

Honestly that is super helpful, as I did some research into the Stealthsonic vacs and found that it was Alton Industries that made it, but didn’t make that DX– connection. I haven’t gotten it yet, as I was given by a friend a dinosaur shop vac that I’ve been using in the mean time, but it’s definitely on my “to get” list.

There are differences between OEM and licensed products.
Also, I don’t think Keter is making Ryobi Link, as they’re made in USA and China.
Jim
Any idea of the price difference between Lowes and Amazon?
Don Julio
The price discrepancy is crazy.. At the Lowe’’s link:
DeWalt Abrasive Blast Cabinet
Model #DXCM009-0370
$649.12
Amazon link:
DeWalt Abrasive Blast Cabinet (DXCM009-0370)

More than double?
I found only one other retailer online, Smoke Home Haden (never heard of them), with this blast cabinet (Model: DXCM009-0370), also for $1423.53

Same model #. Weird.

Should be Smoke Home Garden

A bit out of left field, but I like that! I do wonder, as Stuart did, if they plan on making a bench top version of this in the future. Otherwise… If those are just screws on the base legs, perhaps all it may need is some heavy rubber matting underneath it, to stop the chamber from damaging whatever surface it’s on? Because if it attaches with screws or bolts, and not rivets, the conversion from floor-standing, and bench top, appears to be 8 fasteners, and a rubber mat!
As to the air and blasting medium containers and systems, if this is as standard a unit as it seems… I see that pricing as a perfect entry point for small shops to do maintenance and repair on things. Not perfectly sure how well it “makes” things though. I am aware that some glass etching, and other engraving or personalizing, is done with low pressure sand blasting. I am not sure just how precise one can control the flow on a system of this size. Though… In the world of 3D printing, this may, or may not, be a move toward fine sanding of rough ABS/PLA/Filament based prints for prototyping.
I hope this unit does well in the market, frankly! It would definitely encourage DeWALT to continue into shop infrastructure tools like this one!

Is it just me, or is 20 CFM absolutely insane for a cabinet this small, I’m assuming aimed at homeowners or small shops, I don’t know many people that have compressors to support 20 CFM. I’ve been in the market for a cabinet, I like the foot pedal, and it’s on sale at tractor supply for under $590, but the requirements for air are nuts!
John
So I found out why it uses so much air, The bin vibrator is pneumatic so there is where all the CFM’s are going. I’m gonna order one I hope it can be turned off.
Nicholas Ranella
That makes sense!
I ordered one also, should be delivered tomorrow. If you’re on Instagram I’ll post an unboxing video. My username is xRanellax

So I purchased and assembled my cabinet. The quality is definitely there over the less expensive Harbor Freight variations. The foot pedal and rebuildable nozzle is nice, fits Clemco nozzles to fine tune CFM and nozzle size (charts available if you search clemco nozzle chart). The hopper vibrator is a great feature, but sucks down tons of air.. it has an adjustable valve at the side of the cabinet to fine tune for media and air usage.. it’s loud as hell.. definitely need double hearing protection if you’re running the cabinet and media vibrator. Seems to be very well made and should last for many years, even in a commercial setting.
Stuart
Thank you for sharing your feedback and early experience with the Dewalt blasting cabinet!

Can anyone give me the actual interior dimension? Looking for width, depth, height in front and at rear. Wanting something for blasting wheels. So far the only one that looks like it will work for me is the Eastwood. But I like DeWalt and this comes with the foot pedal and vibrator. Id have to buy both of those with Eastwood. Any help here greatly appreciated. Also like that the whole front folds up not just the hood.
