Dewalt DCB200 3Ah Power Tool Battery

The Dewalt DCB200 20V Max 3Ah cordless power tool battery is on sale right now for $39.

This is the best price on an individual Dewalt battery that I’ve seen.

Alright, so we know that Dewalt has reworked their battery line branding, with 3 XR batteries of the PowerStack and PowerPack variety – Dewalt XR Batteries – What Does this Mean?.

Here’s a list of all of Dewalt’s non-XR batteries:

  • 1.3Ah (compact)
  • 1.5Ah (compact)
  • 2Ah (compact)
  • 3Ah (compact)
  • 3Ah
  • 4Ah (compact)
  • 4Ah
  • 5Ah
  • 6Ah
  • 8Ah
  • 10Ah

It seems that the 1.3Ah and 1.5Ah might be phased out soon. Last winter, Dewalt changed over all of their promo-priced $99 drill and impact driver kits from 2×1.3Ah (or 1.5Ah?) batteries to 1x 2Ah.

They also have a high output compact 3Ah battery that should match the performance of the DCB200 3Ah battery shown above.

Frankly, I think that the DCB200 battery is redundant.

Here’s what I think the non-XR battery lineup might eventually look like after inventory is sold-through:

  • 2Ah (compact)
  • 3Ah (compact)
  • 4Ah (compact)
  • 4Ah
  • 5Ah
  • 6Ah
  • 10Ah

I think that having XR and non-XR versions of the 8Ah battery is also redundant, so I took that one out too. I’m not sure if both 4Ah batteries need to exist, but I’m not sure which could be cut from the line.

Is the 3Ah battery going away? We don’t know. It still seems like a fitting inclusion in some of Dewalt’s cordless power tool combo kits.

$39 per battery technically isn’t the best price we’ve seen. Home Depot had the same price 5 months ago – Home Depot Deal on Dewalt 20V Max 3Ah Battery.

Also, Lowes had – and still has – the 4 pack for $149, but only at select stores where it’s still in stock.

I see this – $39 each – as a blowout deal, but maybe it’s just a new type of promo Dewalt is testing out.

All we know is that this is at least the second time this year we’ve seen the 3Ah battery drop to such pricing.

From Lowe’s product page, they sold at least 1,000 of these batteries last week.

Delivery appears to be $15 for me, suggesting it’s an in-store-only deal. Delivery fees like that are for store-to-home dropoff. Meaning, this looks to be a “buy for in-store pickup” type of deal. Or head on over to Acme Tools and buy the same deal there. Shipping is free over $79.

If ordering from Acme, coupon code TOOLGUYD gives you $10 off $79. You’d need 2 of these batteries and something else to get that discount. Throw in a screwdriver bit or similar, and the coupon will make up for the typical ground shipping fee.

All that said, should you buy it?

3Ah isn’t high capacity, but it’s got a place in most cordless tool kits. I like to keep premium batteries on my heavily-used tools, and having extra inexpensive batteries can reduce swapping back and forth on more auxiliary tools and accessories.

This battery is a good match for something like a cordless radio/speaker or worklight, or for use in a pinch when your better batteries are on the charger.

For $13/ah, it wouldn’t just be my flashlight with a dedicated low capacity/output battery, it would be all my lower powered red tools. Just sayin’.

They are dropping a few of the redundant batteries. Here is what their battery lineup is going to be moving forward, this is straight from DeWalt:

This also shows the new yet-to-be released 3.5Ah PowerStack and 4Ah PowerPack, which is cool.

I haven’t seen that yet, thanks! Straight from Dewalt? PowerPack 4Ah makes sense and was expected. PowerStack 3.5Ah also makes sense, but that one’s a surprise.

          A 3.5ah powerstack!
That’s the one battery I was hoping for the most. I have all 5.0 powerstacks now because I tried the 1.7 but it runs out of juice too quick for my preference. The 3.5 will be a perfect medium I think.

It is going to fill that gap quite nicely. It is starting to show up on European vendor sites, I’m hoping we see it here in NA this fall as well.

For small tools like the impacts, drills, the 3″ cut-off tool and similia the 1.7 is awesome, in my opinion.

Agreed! When I first heard about the powerstack batteries I was thinking that the larger ones would be the most useful. But I’m finding myself appreciating the 1.7s more than the 5.0s. They are super compact yet deliver quite a bit of grunt for a battery so small.
I really wish Dewalt would make an 18V version of their multi-head installation driver, that would pair perfectly with the 1.7 powerstack.

Is this why my local Craigslist is flooded eith these for 45 to 50 dollars each? Love meeting people for 10 dollars in profit each.

I wouldn’t take a large 3ah for free, weight and size with no benefit. I use 5ah or compact 2ah.

That future dewalt battery chart makes almost perfect sense to me.

I just want to take this time to Thank You, Stuart. This post sent me down a Rabbit Hole at Atlas Tools’ Website, seeing if there’s deals up North here for the same thing… I added a good dozen new things to my wishlist, not to mention discovered that DeWALT is having someone produce On-The-Worksite wireless and wired mobile charging units and AC/DC Power Cubes with various USB charging options, from an adaptable little no-blocking-other-sockets cube with undefined power specs (aside from 2 ports on it) to both a 49.5 Watt and 100 Watt USB-C PD enabled multi-port blocks. Both of which differ drastically from the beautiful 100 Watt USB-C PD Wall Cube included in the DCB094 On-Battery charger that replaces the old DCB090 USB 2-port charger.

I also found the recent Right-Angle LED impact attachment you debuted a few days ago. Currently on sale for a really nice price of $49.99 CAD, so expect it to be about $29.99 USD Retail. I can also confirm, from the images on the site, that the handle detaches exactly like the DWARAFT 5-in-1 set, as do both Socket adapters of recent release. So they are all compatible with the flex shaft/right angle FlexTorq (and I would imagine) MaxFit DWARA 5-in-1 sets. Just as you, and several readers, suspected! That’s one of the benefits I find with Atlas up here, they tend to have all the demo images ready to go pretty early, even on Pre-orders! The DCD1007B and also a kit for it with batteries, has gone on Pre-Order, so there’s some really nice detailed shots on the site, unseen here on ToolGuyd yet. A lot of exciting stuff I never planned on looking at, only to find out they’re not selling those particular 3Ah 20V Max batteries at Atlas. I believe it’s because they think, as you do, that they’re being phased out relatively soon. Though they do have a 2-pack of the Compact ones for $249 CAD right now. Yes, our economy kinda sucks right now, so that price is actually reasonable up here.

But enough rambling, Just saying Thank You, because I got to see their upcoming full-sized Plunge Router in the 20V XR lineup while there. It’s a monster of a machine, and is now on my wishlist, because… Honestly it seems like the logical step up from my Dremel attachment for small detail router work. So much there I didn’t get to see here on ToolGuyd, and all because you sent me on a mission to check stuff! How much gets bought? No clue, sorry.
