Dewalt DCN690M1 Brushless Framing Nailer

Dewalt’s new 20V Max cordless brushless framing nailer is one of the most anticipated tools of the year. We previously posted teaser images of the new nailer, and finally got our hands on a list of features and specs.

No Gas

This isn’t a hybrid nailer like Senco’s Fusion, it’s completely electric.

Brushless!

The DCN690 framing nailer will be Dewalt’s second brushless 20V cordless power tool. There are rumors that at least one more brushless product will be hot on the heels of the nailer’s release.

Perform and Protect

Low noise, low recoil and vibration, no storage or combustible gases, no toxic fumes or chemicals.

Compact

Can fit within 16-inch center studs.

  • Tool-free depth adjustment
  • Profiled nose piece for extra grip
  • Easy-access nosepiece for quick nail jam clearing

  • LED fault light indicates low battery power and nail jams
  • 20V Max/4.0Ah Lithium ion battery (DCN690M1 kit comes with one)

It’s worth pointing out that the nailer is described as: Dewalt 20V Max XR brushless nailer. Notice the 20V Max XR branding we saw on Dewalt’s new cordless metal-cutting saw, 2.0Ah battery pack, and 4.0Ah battery pack. Although the images in the 4.0Ah post are of the UK/EU model, the USA model keeps the XR branding but swaps “18V” for “20V Max.”

Dewalt hasn’t said anything about what the XR officially means, although we know it technically stands for extended runtime. Moving forward we expect for the the XR branding to be emblazoned on Dewalt’s heavier duty and more premium tools, as well as their pending brushless products.

Good question, wish I could answer it. The ETA was pushed back at least to February 2014 and the Amazon preorder page has been taken down. I’m keeping the links up in case it’s put back.

Dewalt hasn’t given any explanation as to why the nailer is delayed. I’m guessing that maybe the nailer has to be reworked to comply with USA building codes. That’s the only thing I can think of since the nailer is already available and in use in Europe.

I asked, but Dewalt has not commented on the matter.

My guess is that there are either compliance issues with USA safety regulations or building codes, or supply issues. In the case of supply issues, the nailer probably wouldn’t be released in the USA until production can meet UK demand and projected USA initial demand.

I bought one of these nailers a couple weeks back and it is absolutely brilliant. The only difference with the North American nailer and the European is the printed material included in the box. For some strange reason the United States is unable to comprehend metric; US bound versions have all imperial literature. The nails and the actual nailer are the exact same.

I purchased my Dewalt framing nailer about 3 weeks ago and it will not fully sink all of my nail heads. I am hammering about 40% of the nails at least 3/4 of an inch into studs because it does not quite do the job right. I’m wondering if this is a common issue and if it is going to cost me anything to have it fixed. Does anyone out there have any advice? Should I return it to Home Depot, exchange it or try to get it repaired? It was a $500.00 investment and I can’t and won’t spend another dime on it.

If in your shoes, I would return it for a replacement. I don’t try to get warranty repairs or service on 3-week-old tools, or tools within the retail return period. If the second one fails to meet your expectations, then reconsider your options.

I’m a GC. Any gun fired by any nube on any job anywhere fails to sink. But my veterans, myself, and any guy worth my cash makes any gun sink right. “Period” (Exception: old hickory beams and eyes in grain.)

If the gun can shoot 2 per without fuel or hose, my yuys will make it happen.

can you clarify “eyes in grain” and “shoot 2 per?”

Are you saying your guys can make a defective nailer work, or that they will pound the nail in and make it appear right?

You sure are cocky “Mr. G.C.” Why don’t you spend less time bragging about being a GC and more time answering the question at hand, which you didn’t remotely answer.
      P.S. You’re an idiot.
