Over at Home Depot, there’s a brand new Dewalt 20V Max 7-tool cordless combo kit, model DCK720D2. This could mean several things, but what I’m guessing is that this will be a Deal of the Day this week or next.
Last year, the Black Friday deal of the day was a Dewalt 20V Max 9pc cordless combo kit for $499.

This new 7-tool cordless combo kit is a bit different. It swaps in the regular DCD780 compact brushed motor drill instead of the DCD771 “holiday season” model, and you lose the brushless oscillating multi-tool and right angle drill.

- DCF885 Impact Driver (Compare Price)
- DCS381 Reciprocating Saw
- DCS393 Circular Saw
- DCL040 LED Worklight (Compare Price)
- DCG412 Angle Grinder (Compare Price)
- DCR006 Bluetooth Speaker (Compare Price)
- 2x 2.0Ah Li-ion Battery Packs
- Standard Charger
- Tool Bag
Right now, this combo kit is on sale for $599, which they say is $100 off the regular price of $699.
The circular saw and reciprocating saw are the standard non-premium combo kit models.
So, let’s play a game. Sorry, no prizes.
Imagine that Home Depot puts this up as a Deal of the Day. What do you think the price will be?
Last year’s 9-tool combo was $499.

With all that in mind, I’m going to guess $399 for this 7-tool combo. If the kit came with the same holiday season-focused DCD771, I’d guess a price of $349.
I kind of wish they would have bundled this kit with one 2.0Ah battery pack, and one 4.0Ah battery pack. It’s got a circular saw reciprocating saw, and angle grinder. A 2.0Ah battery can power any of those tools, but a higher capacity battery pack would be better. I guess it leads to strong expansion potential.
What’s your prediction?
Would you buy this combo kit for $399?

$399 would be a VERY good deal for this kit. Yes it would be nice to see a 4ah battery in the box but assuming it really is $399, that would make it a PRICE POINT kit and with that many included tools it screams buy more batteries!!!
Cr8on
Oh and to answer the question: No I wouldn’t buy… already have the better yellow toys 🙂

All are brushed tools. Good for weekend warriors/home owner. Everyday users get the brushless.

What’s with all the toy batteries in Dewalt kits lately? Pro-level tools with homeowner-use batteries…
Don’t get me wrong, I use a couple 1.5a makita batteries within my collection of batteries, but only for the vacuum, radio or very short cutting tasks.
But to sell these combos with cheap batteries just seems short-sighted and possibly will give clueless buyers incorrect notions of the capabilities of this new generation of cordless tools.
Bolt
Yeah I’d imagine that the angle grinder would run those little batteries down in no time flat.

Ha for sure!! Speaking from experience, using the saw (DCS391)with 4ah batteries I go through 3 a day. I have ran a 2ah on it and works fine in a pinch but sure isn’t something I’d rely on.

I got in on the 9 piece last year and sold the cheapened circular saw and recip saw to buy the premium versions with the $25 off $100 promo. The right angle drill I thought i may never use but it has come in handy a few times.
If I didn’t have that this would be a decent kit to get off the ground.

Right now at Amazon: DEWALT DCK590L2 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion 3.0 Ah 5-Tool Combo Kit is $399. (Missing the angle grinder and bluetooth radio but 3 AH batteries)
Let’s price out the pieces with $25 off 100:
Drill Driver / Impact (w 2 compact batteries): $135
Grinder (bare): $75
Circular (bare): Saw $95
Recip Saw (bare): $86 (compact) $75 (full sized)
LED Area Light (bare) + Bluetooth (bare): $91
(If you buy each separately)
So you can buy better tools than are in this combo for: $482
So if it isn’t $399 or less, I wouldn’t recommend it.
And actually, I did essentially this except I bought the brushless combo first and added on items (except, I don’t have a use for a grinder and instead added on a Jigsaw which I quite like).

7 or 9 piece is a great deal. I would love to see a premium XR 11 piece around $799.

Up here in the froze north my guess is 750 . Or so . At least . And that would be a great deal in Canada. U guys get good deals in the states . It must be nice

DeWalt brushed tools that are close to what…. 7-8yrs old. 1.5 batt packs? I wouldn’t pay more than $299.
It’s not entry level as I picture entry level as a two tool kit to expand on. Not the full monty like this. Not 7 tools to complete any diyer’s kit. I wouldn’t waste the money to enter the system nor would I choose to enter the system with such dated tools. Especially when they have a diy level brushless screw gun kit or, i I was on the market for weekend warrior gear, I might shoo around and see that the gen5x kit was available for around the same price but with better spec’ed tools/batts and a more user friendly lineup, or… Theres always the fail proof Ryobi system.
I wouldn’t buy this to supplement my current rig. As what does it contain that enters the realm of longevity?
If I was into DeWalt or had to have this kit….I would ask for the option to swap out the radio for a two pack of 3ah batteries as they are around the same price point. That way I’m closer to being able to bring these to a job site or i can use the juicier tools for more than trimming branches and making a few rough cuts in lumber for Billy’s new sand box.
For the money, depending on what your plans are, I think there are better options.

its 399 at HomeDepot today.
