Dewalt has launched new compact steel tool boxes. Measuring 15.35″ wide x 10.4″ deep x 13.19″ tall, these aren’t as small as the mini tool boxes that have been trending for the holidays, but they also aren’t as large as you might think.
The tool boxes feature a top carry handle and two latches on the bottom to keep the lid in place during transport.

Inside, there is a single cutout for a power tool – such as a cordless drill or driver – a tool shelf with holes for ratchets and screwdrivers, pegs for sockets, and two open spaces for other tools and supplies.

The front edge folds down to make it easier for users to access tools or parts in the bottom compartments, and there’s a central lid support to help keep the top open.
According to the product description, the latches are lockable, and the tool boxes have an empty weight of 50 lbs. Correction: Acme’s description is wrong, Montezuma says they weigh 14.33 lbs empty and have a load capacity of 50 lbs.
There are two color options, black (DXTB15BB) and yellow (DXTB15BY), and both Dewalt tool boxes are described as being made in the USA. For some reason the black version costs a few dollars more than the yellow.
Price: $179.99 and up
The triangular shape is a clear indicator that the tool boxes are made for Dewalt by Montezuma.

It looks like you can buy them directly from Montezums in a 2-pack for $199.99.

Thanks! I found them for $170+ freight, but digging around deeper they do have that promo on a different page. Sure enough, $199 for 2. https://www.montezumastorage.com/collections/triangle-shopboxes-indoor/products/dewalt-portable-bundle

It’s been a long week, but the total weight limit with tools and box is 50 lbs., as opposed to just the empty box being 50 lbs
avi
I assume, based on Montezuma’s page
Stuart
Thanks! Acme’s specs say the assembled weight is 50 lbs. I guess something was lost in translation when Montezuma sent them the specs.
Lowe’s, which lists the tool box as unavailable, says the weight capacity is 150 lbs. 50 lbs seems more reasonable for a single handle.

My apologies, you are on your game. And here I assumed it was just black Friday burnout. Apparently I just got lucky that the only specs I read were the right ones
Stuart
Could be that too. 50 lbs seems high to me, but they had it in 2 places and I took it to be accurate.

It doesn’t look particularly useful to me. At first glance I thought a small metal toolbox in a unique shape might be a fun idea. But if this is meant to be portable, it looks awkward.
I could fit those same tools in way less space, it’s expensive and I’m imagining it being a little weird to lug around. It doesn’t allow for much flexibility in what you load in there either.
Motezuma’s other triangular boxes make some sense because they keep things organized and readily accessible. I suppose the idea was to make a version you could carry around with those same benefits – but then a rigid metal box in an awkward shape doesn’t make as much sense as it does as a truck box or on the top of a tool chest.
This one’s not for me I guess.

That shape of box is normally used mounted to vehicles, like service trucks.
fred
The shape does dome have appeal for accessibility – not so much for storage efficiency or packing factor. Change the slant of the top a bit more and it would fit perfectly in the back of your Cyber Truck
Jared
That design makes so much more sense in that context.
John
Those ones are much bigger though. This holds a tiny amount of tools. Think how many sockets would typically be on a service truck.

That thing needs handles on the lower/center sides, not the top. That’d be a nightmare to carry even a little bit. Yuk.

I was thinking of carrying this the wrong way around, but I’m not sure the other way would be a whole lot better.

This really looks like an off-the-shelf solution for someone needing a lockable container to hold a set of tools narrowly focused on one task or a closely related set of tasks…i.e., if I had a utility flatbed on my Tacoma, there’d be at least one of these bolted or padlocked down somewhere, packed with an impact wrench and specific sockets, hand tools, recovery gear, etc. for off-roading.

That box occupies a lot of volume for a drill, some screwdrivers, a ratchet, and some sockets. The advantage of stadium type boxes is that you can fit a LOT of stuff in them and access it fairly quickly. This box does not do that. Pass.

I just bought the Montezuma one of these at Tractor Supply for $100 a couple months ago
