Dewalt 20V Max PowerPack 8Ah Battery

Amazon’s WOOT store is selling the Dewalt 20V Max XR PowerPack 8Ah tabless cell Li-ion battery for a shockingly low price – $97.99!

The Dewalt PowerPack battery delivers high performance and stays cooler when powering tools through high-demand tasks and applications.

Dewalt advertises the battery as delivering 50% more power, and that the PowerPack battery has a longer lifespan.

Price: $97.99

Update: SOLD OUT

Buy it at Woot (an Amazon Company)

Thank you to Kevin for the heads-up!

There are other deals right now where you can get a FREE Dewalt PowerPack battery with the purchase of a tool or accessory.

Dewalt ToughSystem Cordless Worklight with Powerpack Battery

Dewalt ToughSystem Worklight with FREE PowerPack Battery – $199 at Home Depot

Home Depot also has a promo where you can buy the new Dewalt DCD1007 3-speed brushless hammer drill kit for $349, which includes a PowerPack battery already, and get a FREE second PowerPack 8Ah battery.

Acme Tools has the drill kit (but no free battery) for $279, or tool-only drill with a free PowerPack 8Ah battery for $249.

Still, Woot’s $98 deal for just the battery is the lowest and best price I’ve seen if you want just the battery.

Thanks! I added a note to the post. That stinks. This happens almost every time I post about Woot deals, as if they only ever have 1 in stock. I thought maybe this time it’d be different.

They’ve had M18 forge batteries for incredibly low prices off and on the past couple of months. This one might go back in stock if it works like the M18 did.

I still think the best PP battery deal is with the DCCS623 pruning saw. $169 gets you the saw and a free PP battery.

That is an excellent saw, I am very happy with mine. If you have a use for a small chainsaw that is a no-brainer deal.

    What does ‘tabless’ mean?

Batteries with tabless Li-ion cells deliver greater power than preceding battery technologies. Tabless refers to the architecture of the Li-ion cell electrodes. There’s a condensed primer in this post – https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/cordless-tool-brand-battery-tech-leaders/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Haha i thought it just meant without the table at the end. I was wondering why that would make a difference. How come they didn’t go with the pouch cells? They’re not as good for higher energy workloads?

At a certain capacity and size, tabless batteries have better thermal dissipation than pouch cells.

Woot! certainly has great deals sometimes, but I’d be wary about buying DeWalt products from them. The fine print in the various DeWalt warranties (https://www.dewalt.com/support/warranty) explicitly state that “this warranty applies only if the product was purchased from DEWALT or a DEWALT authorized seller”. Woot! makes no claim to be a DeWalt authorized online seller, and they are not. You can see which online companies are authorized online retailers for DeWalt here: https://www.dewalt.com/find-retailer

As a related matter, I have read the argument that Amazon is an authorized retailer for DeWalt, and Amazon owns Woot!, so Woot! is obviously an authorized retailer as well. I’m not a lawyer, but that line of reasoning seems to be on very thin ice to me.

Furthermore, despite the common misconception, Amazon itself is not a “an authorized retailer” for DeWalt either. But at least if you buy from Amazon you can see where the product comes from. So, for example, if you order a DeWalt battery from Amazon which is sold and shipped by Grainger you’d be fine. And even if that battery is sold and shipped by Amazon I think you’d be fine as well, simply because Amazon has generous return policies.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy DeWalt tools from Woot! I have done it myself. But don’t assume that you are automatically getting a DeWalt warranty as well.

Amazon is an authorized dealer. Was? I’m guessing Dewalt took down the Amazon link because there are many 3rd party sellers on Amazon that are NOT authorized sellers.

Woot? It’s unclear. Woot says you get the full Dewalt warranty and links to it on Dewalt’s website.

I suppose it’s a matter of interpretation. I don’t see that Woot is explicitly claiming that you get a DeWalt warranty, though they may want you to give that impression. Woot is merely providing a link for you to review DeWalt’s warranty, where its fine print explicitly states that the warranty does not apply unless you buy from “DEWALT authorized seller”. I cannot find any persuausive evidence that Woot is a “DEWALT authorized seller”, and (unlike on Amazon) you cannot even determine the source supplier.

I emailed Woot about this issue when I bought a DeWalt saw from them about a year ago, seeking clarification. They didn’t reply.

As a separate matter, my understanding is that Amazon was formerly a “DEWALT authorized seller”, but is not any more. So if you order from Amazon, make sure that the actual supplier is an authorized online retailer if you want to be certain of getting the DeWalt warranty.

A list of DeWalt’s online retailers is here: https://www.dewalt.com/find-retailer. Click the “Find Online” tab. Neither Amazon nor Woot are on that list. However, Tool Nut is not on the list either, and I’m pretty sure that they are a DeWalt Authorized Retailer, so DeWalt’s list may be inaccurate.

The whole situation of warranties for online purchases made through third parties is very murky.

Woot: “Warranty: 3-Year DeWalt General Warranty”

Just because Amazon isn’t on the list of links anymore, that doesn’t mean they’re not an authorized dealer.

Amazon sells volumes of tools they they could only source directly through Dewalt.

          Woot? It’s unclear.

Dewalt’s list includes Grainger, but not Zoro, which is a Grainger company.

          https://14cyiuhvcgv.com/bosch-certified-online-partner-notice-tool-listings-amazon/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E

Dewalt listings on Amazon used to have a notice about which 3rd party retailers were authorized, as well as Amazon direct.

It’s a mess. If it makes you uneasy, order from an explicitly listed authorized dealer.

          Here’s the official word:

Amazon is an authorized retailer for select DEWALT products. Woot however is not an authorized platform.

Also, in a follow-up about what it means for Woot purchases:

if the item that was purchased was in new condition it would be handled as a typical Amazon purchase would

I’ve never had Dewalt even ask me for proof of purchase on a warranty claim. They just wanted a picture of the date code (on the tool or battery) and that was it. I was surprised. They told me if I was trying to do a warranty claim for something that was past the 3 years, but I could prove that I bought it within 3 years, they would honor the warranty if I could provide proof of purchase. I wonder if that’s been others experience as well.

I thought Amazon used to have a graphic with most of their DeWalt listings. It listed several resellers (including Amazon) that were authorized DeWalt resellers. I don’t see it on any of their prominent listings right now.

Could Amazon have gotten their DeWalt authorized reseller card revoked? It wouldn’t surprise me given the grotesque proliferation of counterfeit and otherwise shady goods on their website.

“Could Amazon have gotten their DeWalt authorized reseller card revoked?”.

That would be my guess. I think Stanley or DeWalt may have contacted Amazon and said “Unless you stop selling DeWalt products through shady unauthorized suppliers we’re going to withdraw your DeWalt authorized seller status, and we really, really mean it!

And Amazon may have just shrugged and said “Whatever dude…” in reply. Yet you can still “Visit the DEWALT Store” on Amazon, which gives their operation a veneer of respectability.

Milwaukee refuses to deal with Amazon at all, even though you can order Milwaukee products on Amazon from companies such as “Jeff’s Garage” and “Super Bargains”. I don’t understand how Amazon gets away with that.

        Amazon sold 10K+ cordless drills last month – https://www.amazon.com/Dewalt-DCD771C2-Cordless-Lithium-Ion-Compact/dp/B00ET5VMTU/?tag=toolguyd-20 and 40K+ 2-tool combo kits https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCK240C2-Lithium-Driver-Impact/dp/B00IJ0ALYS/?tag=toolguyd-20 .

They have Black Friday deals featuring Dewalt.

They didn’t have their “authorized reseller card revoked.”

Like I said, it’s probably done because there are too many 3rd party resellers and Dewalt was tired of the “but I bought it at Amazon, it should be covered” excuse.

Amazon is an authorized retailer for other brands, but that typically only covers Amazon direct or very specific sellers.
