The links are to Amazon, but other Dewalt dealers might be participating in the promo.

It looks like the deals end at midnight (probably 3am ET), and there might be supply limits.

The prices are actually quite good, at least for today’s deals. Promo prices for the upcoming deals have not yet been revealed.

There’s also no guarantee that Amazon will be participating in all of the promos. For instance, the scroll saw is priced at $429 via CPO and Acme Tools on Amazon, but their direct price is $448. (Or maybe a supply limit was already reached?)

The DW788 is a well-regarded scroll saw. The $429 price seems OK – but nothing really special (same price at Home Depot).

This time of the year scroll saws seem to get a lot of play for making things like Christmas ornaments. 30+ years ago – my Hegner got a fair amount of use that way – and the kids still have/use the ornaments that they made. Doing it over again – while I like the old Hegner – this Dewalt would have provided much better bang for the buck.

Do they still *have* the ornaments or *use* the ornaments?
      Big difference!! =)

I respectfully disagree!!=) The making of them – and having them as a remembrance of a simpler time in their lives and the fun and pleasure they had in creating something by their own hands is what’s important. But – further – I see that a some still get hung on their trees – and a couple of sawn Christmas trees appear on mantelpieces.

More than 50 years ago my dad got me an old used Delta scroll saw, http://lumberjocks.com/assets/pictures/projects/132451.jpg
that started my love of woodworking.

I think I would consider a scroll saw one of the safest power tools a kid could start out using.

I sure wish I still had that saw today.

I know I’m dying here! Tools yes please! But at least throw some battery deals up! I could really use a second pair of batteries, but none of the current prices beat out 120volt adapter (CPO $59 w/tax, Acme $49 slower shipping) & buying one battery does me no good at this moment bc I need two for the miter saw. I almost feel like pulling the trigger on the sidewinder 2x flexvolt battery deal for around $260. One way or the other I’m could get the saw for dirt cheap or the batteries for cheap. But I just bought 2x 12ah “red lithium” ? & gen2 7 1/4 fuel so it would be redundant to buy the flexvolt circular too…smh

This tool has never been available in 220 – 240V, so at least make it cordless so everybody can use it, no matter country works with 110V or 240V!

Interesting idea – I don’t recall ever seeing a cordless (other than antique foot treadle powered) scroll saw. The new version of the Hegner saw that I own – is available in a 230V model. I highly recommend the Hegner saw – on all counts except price:

Well, you could sort of do it by buying (e.g. Neutechnik) or making a jigsaw table that holds the jig saw upside down and supports the blade at the top (free) end so the jigsaw is now closer to a scroll saw, and then use a cordless jigsaw…. but I don’t see the point in this

BTW, how do the cheap (e.g. Ryobi) scroll saws compare to this DeWalt or the Hegner?

I have only limited experience with a cheap scroll saw. Someone I knew got a “bargain” price on a used Dremel 18 inch model that came with a frame table – and asked me to look at it to see if he was doing something wrong. The machine looked nice but when you turned it on the machine bounced and danced around. Adding a shelf and some weight to the stand was only moderately helpful. I’m not sure what he ended up doing with it.

Thanks for the link, I meant why not a DeWALT branded scroll saw in 240V? But I think in general cordless version of any tool which is for woodworkers should be fine, flexvolt cordless version of this tool would work very well. Even a cordless bench grinder would be nice, 60V version for 6″ one and 20V version for 3″ one.

I can’t find it on sale anywhere at the moment either. 2/4, of the specified deals are discounted at Amazon right now, the other 2 aren’t.

For the 12/9 deals, it seems both the mechanic’s set and the tstak drawers are not discounted. Checked a couple other retailers also, no sales that I can find.
