Over at Acme Tools, they kicked off a new Dewalt Tools flash sale, valid 10/14 thru 10/15/2020.
This is a “buy more, save more” type of coupon.

- Spend $149+, Save $20
- Spend $299+, Save $35
- Spend $599+, Save $75
Maximum savings is going to be 13.4% at $149, 11.7% at $299, and 12.5% at $599.
Hmm. $20 off $149+ is a good deal if you’re spending just above the minimum threshold, and you’re saving more than 10% until your order total hits $200.
I’d say this is a good deal if you’re planning to spend ~$150 to $175, or just above $600. I like percent-off promos better, but this is the deal they have right now, and money saved on a tool you might need to buy right now is always appreciated.
There are specific SKU exclusions, see the fine print link below for more details.

I had commented about this sale earlier this morning – but thought it was just an OK deal. Just OK deals seem to be the norm this year.
Max Tool – folks who had some good deals last year – now seems to have a new sales promotion gimmick. They call it Max Cash. As an example – you spend $250 now – then get a $50 coupon to spend on a $199 or more purchase later, That works out to $50 off of a total spend of $449 – or 11% off if you hit the target spending precisely. You can up that to 14% – by spending $500 now – getting a $100 coupon.

I don’t like “spend now, save later” types of deals.
What if you want to buy something later on, say a router kit. One retailer has a 10% off promo, another has it at regular price, but you have credit locked in at that second retailer. You’re stuck. I’ve had “spend now, get a coupon for later” offers expire.
Or, what happens if what you plan to spend that future coupon on goes out of stock?
I’d always choose instant savings over marginally better future savings.

Yep – “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”
I was just pointing out that this year’s economy/pandemic does not seem to be promoting any big sales.
Meanwhile Amazon is doing very well – and I (to a modest extent compared to Bezos) am too – having bought their stock in early March and sold it off yesterday – wanting to take my gain despite the income tax consequences.

You gotta plan them a bit, yes. FAO had the same deal as Max Tool (same parent company seemingly), so I recently bought the DeWalt DCK221F2 12v drill/driver, impact, and 2 battery kit with bonus “free” DCS312B recip ($139 value) for $199 – a deal in and of itself. I added the $52 3Ah DCB124 to eclipse the $250 threshold, and got $50 FAO bucks for use in November.
Fast forward to today, I used said $50 on their “buy two get one free” deal and got two (2) DCB612 12Ah batteries (on sale for $199ea – also a bit of a deal) and a “free” DCG426B angle grinder ($189 value), all for $348.
So over two separate transactions, DCK221F2 kit, DCS312B, DCB124, (2) DCB612, and DCG426B for $600. Add the same stuff to an amazon cart, $973.08 (04Nov2020 prices).
Point is, those buy now save later deals are good this time of year when there are other deals to stack them with. They work when you have a plan. You have to earn them on a deal, then spend them on another deal. If you earn them on MSRP and spend them on MSRP, they are not worth it.

Yawn. Wake me up when the savings are 20% or higher. Texas has a 8.5% sales tax, these “deals” barely even cover that. They definitely don’t make me interested in doing any discretionary spending.

I priced out the $149 Dewalt radio, I’d be giving $6.49 of the $20 discount right back in ground shipping, over $15 back if I choose 2nd day. No fee shipping really hurts this deal that’s marginal to begin with. I’ll pass and hold out for a better deal.

Cpo also has a couple of buy this tool(s) get one free (DeWalt only) if you are needing some specific tools, then it could be good, example: 2 DeWalt lights for $180 = $360 and get a free planer/grinder/whatever… The list of free tools is extensive and could be worth it.
