DIY Gone Bad – Car Loses All Four Wheels

Apparently it’s quite common for Europeans to switch between winter and summer tires. Well, one driver in Switzerland was changing his tires but happened to use the wrong lug nuts to secure the wheels to his car. That’s a mistake he’s never going to make again – as soon as he drove back onto the motorway, he lost all four tires simultaneously, coming to an immediate halt.

What the news article does not mention is where the tire change took place – the wording implies that this was all done on the side of the motorway.

We had been holding out for more details – or at least a photo of the car, but it looks like the story’s dead. The following unrelated video shows what the incident probably looked like.

What we’re still confused about is how someone manages to “use the wrong nuts” and not realize it. If using the wrong nuts, it should have been realized via feedback whether a manual or power tool was used.

Chris, this post was about as off-topic as we are comfortable with. We considered that most would look past the slight digression and appreciate the amusement of the story. Still, we try to avoid deviating too far from what is expected from us. If we disappoint you again in the future, if even in a different manner, please let us know – we care about comments and concerns, and will definitely keep them in mind to help keep us on track.

After seeing this I am no longer proud to own an Rx-7….From what I heard on the forum, he used the wrong pitch lug nuts.
