Around 5 months ago, I posted about how I felt that the Dremel tool brand is due for something new.
Well, they’ve got something new. Is it a new rotary tool? Rotary tool attachments or accessories? CNC router machine? More cordless power tools for their 12V and 20V Max lines?
To start off, Dremel has a new sneaker collab.

As I understand it, the mschf Gobstomper is a type of sneaker where users can use a Dremel or other rotary tool to customize the rubber soles.

The collaborative sneaker features Dremel colors and has 4-layer construction that reveals a unique design as the shoe wears down.
As with other Gobstomper sneakers, users can “distress the shoes by hand” using a Dremel tool, which is included in the package.

The kit, which sold for $350 each, came with a pair of shoes, rotary tool, a couple of accessories, and a case to hold it all.
I guess that’s pretty cool – not for me, but I can see the appeal.
Dash any thoughts about getting one – they were all sold off via a lottery system.

There’s also the Dremel Versa cordless cleaning tool, which now features Scrub Daddy cleaning pads.
The kit – priced at $50 right now – comes with an assortment of 5 different Scrub Daddy cleaning pads, plus a Velcro backer pad, splash guard, and USB charging cable.
Objectively speaking, these are smart collaborations. They don’t do much for someone like me, but I can see why Dremel would do this.

$50 for that little scrubber is wild. I’d be eager to get one at a reasonable price but $50 is laughable.
Stuart
It launched 6 years ago at $40.

I was thinking that too. But Lowes is asking the same price, while Acme wants $60 and a sell on Walmart wants $69

I think Ryobi’s cleaning tools are pricey, too, and the 18V ones use a proprietary (not 1/4″ hex) interface. The Versa uses 1/4″, and IIRC, so does Ryobi’s smaller (USB Lithium?) model
The only pluses I can think of versus using a drill/driver is that they’re splash proof, and Ryobi has a long reach model (which should work much better than a super long 1/4″ extension) but it’s even more $$$.

Plus it’s Micro USB, that’s a big nope for me. It should have been updated to USB-C years ago.
Matthew Shaffer
Agreed. Nothing says ‘we don’t really give a shit about our product’ more than a micro USB port.

Just get something like this.

There’s a million brands.
I chuck it in an impact and use them for cleaning the shower tiles/grout.
Got tired of waiting for the scrubber price to come down at Lowes.

I thought this was another AI+Stuart collaboration at first. I know almost nothing about fashion and clothes so I thought AI was just throwing letters together as it does. Informative article – now I know MSCHF is a brand!

The sneaker is ridiculous but the scrub we might be nice. Doubt it has the power though. I would like something like that
BigTimeTommy
I’d make the same assumption that it’s underpowered, but the Binford9000 approach isn’t necessary for every tool. I use a drill and sponge attachment to scrub my shower, more power just flings cleaner everywhere.

Interesting that MSCHF went from the Lil Nas X Satan shows to a Dremel collab

Saw this in an email from Dremel recently and after looking again to make sure I didnt imagine it asked myself what the heck Dremel’s have to do with shoes. I could care less about “fashion”. Give me a Dremel with more power, bigger collets, a metal housing and bigger/more rigid bearings instead.
Channeling my inner.Randy Jackson,
it’s a no from me dog.

I love my versa. I love the scrub daddy sponge too. the Scrub daddy accessory kit is part number PC360-5 but doesn’t seem to be available buy itself yet. And I agree with some other’s if I have to get another Versa it needs a update. USB-C is a no brainer.

I wish Dremel would just release a new CORDED top performer rotary tool. Something with more power than the 4300.
