Over at Home Depot, presumably as part of their PRO Black Friday 2017 sales event, there’s a new deal on Empire levels.
They’re saying that you buy the 48″ level, and you get the 24″ level for FREE. That’s not quite true. Well, it is, but there’s more.

You’re getting the 48″ level and the 24″ level, AND a $5 discount off the regular price of the 48″ level (e55.48), at least going by Home Depot’s pricing.
It’s rare that this happens, but Home Depot is underselling deal.
I was going to post about this yesterday, but the only price was $25 and I wanted to visit at least one other Home Depot location to verify the $20 deal price. But after checking just now, I’m happy to see that the level bundle is now the same price online.
These are pretty basic levels, but even so, they’re better than the 4-foot Empire level I bought a few years back. That one has held up well, although I don’t use it all that often anymore.
Still, I’m very tempted to order this set. They’re good levels at great prices.
I also saw this morning that Tim mentioned the deal in our PRO Black Friday deal post:

My HD had a few more fresh-today deals, one was an empire level bundle of 2’ and 4’ I-beam levels for the price of the 4’ only, $20. I beat up 4 foot levels as circular saw guides, and needed a throw in the car 2’ anyway, so for me this was a good deal.
Hmm, I hadn’t considered that – using these levels as tool guides. I have a couple of clamp-on guides, and tracks for my Festool tools, but this does look like a very good way to ensure straight cuts and grooves when it matters.
I think I’m going to have to order a set.
Price: $20

I don’t remember if these are made in the USA or not. If they’re not fully made in the USA, then I’m fairly certain that at least the vials are.
Who else is thinking of buying or ordering these levels?
Charles
They are showing as $24.97 on the website
Stuart
Darn, it might be regional, then.
If you have a store near you, you could try popping in zip code 10010 (manhattan and easy to remember) and ask them to price match.
But if your store doesn’t have the price at $20, they might soon. Or it could mean they don’t have the displays in their inventory or on the sales floor yet. I really don’t know. I thought that seeing $20 at my local store and online meant that it’s nationwide.
Michael
19.99 for my store in MA
Brian Puccio
10001 is also Manhattan and easy to remember. Along with 90210 to check CA things.
Stuart
That’s what I put in, but I think the closest store to there has a 10010 zip.
Tim
Thanks for the shout out!
I regularly need a 4’ level for something, and it does save carrying a separate cut guide if you’re carrying the level anyway. I also dislike how long c clamps take to adjust, so I use a couple of the 4” Milwaukee stop lock hand clamps (or the 6” torque lock ones I like less for thicker or stacked material), and it makes a good quick cut guide.
James C
Haha, you can do it the other way in a pinch, too – if you just have a straight edge and 6″ torpedo level, hold them together and boom, there’s a 4′ level (or however long it is).
Tim
Good point! That’s even better than using a 2×4 that probably isn’t straight as a “level extension”…
Nate
As long as that torpedo level is accurate. If it’s out, you’ll telegraph it badly clamping it to a straight edge.

In a different price class:
We used to carry a Stabila Jamber set – consisting of a 72 inch and 32 inch level.
Toolnut has a relatively new Stabila extendable (like a plate level) level set on sale:

I bought this while they were still setting up the display on Saturday! They look great for the price.

My local HD has a B1G1 2-pack of the True Blue 9″ torpedo levels for ~$10, which is the same price as one level – and the packaging features an American flag and “Made in the USA”.
Only reasons I passed were I already have enough Empire-made Craftsman torpedo levels to last the rest of my life, and the pale color with the blue dye seems to make for lower contrast and makes the bubble LESS visible.
Still, good deal on USA-made levels from Empire, Johnson seems to be making all their stuff in China now.
Stuart
Mine had the 2-for-1 square sets, too.
Good buys. Not the best tools, but good and great for the money.
Toolfreak
I saw the 2-for-1 square sets mentioned elsewhere, but haven’t ever seen them at my HD. Might have to get a Swanson square at Sears instead.
Diamond Dave
Agreed…I don’t like the pale color of the bubbles either. Much easier for me to see with the old standard yellow dye.
Toolfreak
Seems to me they could add just a bit more dye to make the blue slightly darker, closer to the opaqueness of the yellow, and it’d be more functional and “different” like they are going for. Not sure why they seem to be fine with the blue being so light and transparent when the “true blue” color of the levels is medium-ish blue.
Andrew
Was actually going to Tweet this deal to you today. Saw it at my local HD and decided to treat myself. They both have the Made in the USA label on it, so Im going to assume they were made right in my backyard.
Damon
19.99 in MA, as someone above stated. Bought this morning. Made in USA as noted. These were a little bit down towards the Pro/Tool Rental area although each store may have different layout.
They did appear to be going pretty quick. And on a side note there were some other items that were already totally wiped out, like the Bosch laser level. So people interested may want to jump on some of the deals.
Does HD replenish supplies of these deals, or when they are gone, are they gone?
Rich
Thanks for the heads up, got one of the last 3 the other day!
