FastCap Pocket Chisel

As several readers was quick to point out the other day via comments and private emails, Stanley’s new Pocket Chisel is not the first tool of its kind to hit the market. FastCap currently offers a series of Pocket Chisels as well as several accessories to go along with them.

Pocket Chisels offer several benefits. Most importantly, a concealed chisel tip is protected and less likely to be chipped or dulled during transport. A concealed chisel is also much less likely to damage or tear through tool pouches, pockets, and bags. As a bonus, a folded chisel is more compact and easier to carry.

FastCap offers several folding chisel sizes: 1/4″, 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″. Plus, they also make a bunch of other “pocket tools:”

  • 300 and 600 grit combo diamond sharpener
  • 1000 grit sharpener
  • putty knife
  • multi-purpose putty knife
  • awl
  • file/rasp
  • laminate saw
  • pull saw

The chisels are priced at about $20-25 and the putty knives $10. Or you can buy a complete kit for $100-110.

Other Pocket Tools (via McFeelys)

This might come as a surprise to you – FastCap’s chisels are made in the USA!

Maybe we’ll do a comparison once the Stanley chisel hits the market, but both brands bring   different things to the table.

Stuart, you mention this company also produces a pocket laminate saw, and pocket pull saw, but I try as I might, I wasn’t able to find those products on Amazon or the Fast Cap website.

Given that these said products aren’t sold on Amazon, do you have any idea where one could purchase these said products at?

    Thank you.

Sorry about that. Other tools can be found here. Look in the middle of the product page under “check out our family of pocket tools.” They can be purchased via FastCap directly, and it looks like McFeelys carries the line as well.

That pocket sharpener seems like it’d be just the thing to keep in my compact toolkit for keeping my knives and chisels sharp. Looks like it’s $22 on Amazon, so I might have to get it.

I am interested in that pull saw, however, given that blade is very flexible, what exactly can that item truly cut? Another point of interest is that Fastcap never mentions what type of steel they use, which also makes me wonder why that information isn’t listed.

If anyone truly owns that Fastcap pull saw, I’d sure like read your opinion on that item.

While I do not own the Fastcap pull saw – I have a Veritas pull saw in my home shop. The 05K36.01 Veritas saw looks to have about the same size blade as the Fastcap – and probably the Fastcap is suited for the same sort of tasks – primarily the flush cutting of plugs (e.g. dowels) used to hide recessed screw heads
