Deal: Save Big on Fein 18V Brushless Drill Kit

Fein ASCM 18 QX Brushless Drill

Several online retailers recently started offering huge savings on this Fein ASCM 18V QX 4-speed drill/driver kit. Over at ToolNut, it’s still on sale for $169, and that’s including (2) 18V 4.0Ah Li-ion battery packs.

Theis Fein brushless drill comes with a removable drill chuck, which can be swapped for a 1/4″ hex quick release screwdriver bit chuck – also included.

Thanks to the brushless motor, the drill can deliver up to 796 in-lbs of torque. It also has 4 separate speed ranges, which makes it easier to match the tool’s speed to whatever drill bit or fastener size you want to work with.

And since the Fein drill has a brushless motor, long runtime is a given. It can drive “up to 1,800 screw connections” with a single battery charge.

Features & Specs

  • Max torque 796 in-lbs
  • Speeds (no-load): 0-400, 0-800, 0-1950, 0-3850 RPM
  • 1/2″ drill chuck has carbide jaws
  • Electronic clutch
  • Includes magnetic quick-change bit holder
  • Kit comes with the drill, (2) 4.0Ah batteries, a rapid charger, auxiliary handle, the (2) removable chucks, and a tool case

The product description says that the drill is made in Germany.

Price: $169, expiration date is unknown

The regular street price seems to be $275 to $400+

Although the Fein drill looks a bit large, it has great specs and a fantastic price. I don’t think you could find a heavy-duty brushless tool for the same price, let alone a complete kit like this one.

The drawback to this is that Fein doesn’t offer a full line of cordless power tools in the USA. If you’re looking for a top-tier brushless cordless drill, or even a brushed motor one, and don’t mind the Fein’s size, you should definitely consider taking advantage of this deal.

Because several retailers participated in similar promos, that could be indication that Fein will soon be releasing a new model.

This is a great deal (I may have seen it elsewhere too – but can’t recall where) – especially if you don’t mind having different battery platforms.

Fein should be better known in the USA – as they make some vey good tools. Many of were introduced to the company (which claims to have made the first electric drill in 1895 – although I’ve seem similar claims about B&D) with the Fein Multmaster. Until the Multimaster’s patent protection ran out – it was pretty much the only oscillating multi-tool available. Fein still produces good oscillating multi-tools – and many of their Multimasters and Supercuts still go to work every day. We also bought several of their vacuums – which offered a good balance of efficient dust collection and low noise. They also sell several unique tools like their pipe polishers (handheld and stationary) that we used – as well as some polishers specific to stainless steel work

Feins older extractors are absolutely superb. Mine has done 10 years of really hard graft and it is still going strong with a filter that just goes through the washing machine. I looked at the newer ones recently and the quality very sadly has gone through the floor.

That’s kind of sad to hear. Ours were purchase in the 2001 to 2006 timeframe – and like yours they are still working well.

Have you got the ones that look very much like an orange dalek!?

My one has outlasted many many other makes and models.

I recently lost the hose on a job but have improvised another to fit.

Simply the best extractor made in my belief. Better than a Festool.

I had to look up Dalek – but that’s it – mostly orange with some black thrown in. I think the last one we bought was a 92025 with a HEPA filter. I think this one was bigger (9 gallon ?) than the others we had – which I think were 6 gallon. I see that the new style looks a bit more squared off – perhaps to resemble the Festool.

It might look like the Festool but that’s about as far as it goes. It gets an absolute panning off a really big Fein fan on Youtube. I went and looked at one at a show and everything he said is true.

The clips are all really cheesy plastic and the top unit and the base have a huge amount of play between them in that clipped shut you can still separate the top and container by a good finger width.

The Fein reps said it would seal up when the vacuum kicked in!

I’ve been trying to talk myself out of buying one but you aren’t helping the cause. Please check your batteries, I’ve seen two people say they received 2 ah batteries instead of the 4 ah batteries.

Hello, Shane from The Tool Nut here. I’m aware of only one customer who reported getting the wrong batteries with their drill on Friday after our business hours. I’ve been in touch with him and assured him that we’ll take care of it. We will also be checking all of our remaining inventory on Monday to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have questions about the product or issues with your order.

I should have mentioned that he did say that you guys were working on fixing it. A second guy received a drill with 2 ah batteries this weekend. In his post he said he planned on contacting Toolnut tomorrow. At least we know you guys are on top of it, looks like great customer service at work. Thanks for the reply, it’s good to see you guys are proactive.

      It’s sold by a 3rd party seller on Walmart.com .

Like Sears, Newegg, eBay, and other retailers, Walmart is looking to follow Amazon’s “marketplace” model.

Do sellers really make many sales on those? With the exception of Amazon, the prices sellers charge on the marketplaces are ridiculous. Sometimes obscenely so, as in 2-3 times normal retail prices. I’ve never been able to figure it out.

Amazon has it’s share of goofy sellers (look up the “Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon” listing if you’ve an hour to spare) but it’s nothing compared to the sellers that dominate at Walmart and Sears.

ok makes sense since all I have seen at Wal Mart are $30 throw aways. Though like Mike says most charge a stupidly high price that they can’t possibly get any sales.

    Gday,

I wasn’t too sure if you ship to Australia? I tried to check international shipping but there was only United States in the drop down box.

    Regards,

That’s a great price, considering the features like the brushless motor, all-metal gearbox, 4Ah batteries, and a 3-year guarantee to back it all up.

Makes me wonder how much if it is “made in Germany” though. Probably like “made in USA”, it has parts that all made in China, but assembled in Germany.

Hi! The ASCM is Made in Germany. It’s been 100% developed here in Schwäbisch Gmünd-Bargau, Germany. The motor is built here, the plastic is made here, the gearbox is 100% Made in Germany…and so on. On top, all of that is assembled by my colleagues in our production facility not 100 m from where I sit. Here’s a video that lets you take a look behind the scenes of the production of a FEIN power tool (the lower one of the two on the page): http://www.feinus.com/en_us/grinding/compact-angle-grinders/video-t400212/

Belt clip? It may seem picky but I have come to believe all screwguns and/or impacts should have a battery gauge and a belt clip. As an electrician I sometimes rely on the ability to clip to my pocket or a nail etc.

I really like the looks of this guy and the price is knockout.

toolnut has the Dewalt DCS361M1 on sale for $350 as well. it shows the lower price in cart.$50 might not be all that much but with free shipping and no sales tax in my state I saved closer to $80.

This kind of pisses me off but heh I’ve come across some good deals in the past. I have no complaints about this drill/driver except there is no clip to hang this on a belt or pocket. Anyone have any idea how to buy and attach one? I’ll likely have to go with a Gorilla clip but would prefer a permanent metal clip.
