Guilty of having a large amount of Festool tools but I find so many other less expensive tools from many manufacturers do just as well. Linear sander is one of kind, now discontinued. Domino is about their only truly unique tool, have both and would not part with them because there is no substitute. For everything else, there are substitutes now. Also Festool pricing constantly crept up year after year and pushed me away from new purchases. I could sell most of my Festool tools for original cost or more than I paid years ago. In a way, that is a bit crazy.
Stuart
Festool does some things well, and certain things far better than the competition.
It’s not about whether or not there’s a substitute, but whether there are distinct benefits you can’t find in competing tools.
JW
MFT table, if you count that as a tool, is also quite unique.

Wasn’t their edgebander pretty unique? I’m not on the cabinetry side of the world too much, but I had thought it was pretty interesting.

Festool either introduced the track saw or at least made the tool more popular. I don’t know that this was anything revolutionary – because plunge saws existed as did cutting guide rails. But the idea of combining the two in a package that worked together for smooth cutting of sheet goods – seemed to be a Festool first.
The Domino cutter machines were also a patented first. There had been dual-dowel machines (like the FDW710K V0 from Freud) plus doweling and loose tenon jigs (like the Porter Cable Morten) but these all had limitations or were time consuming or finicky to use. I tried the Freud dual dowel machine in 2009. It was imprecise and could not make accurate/repeatable joints. I reverted back to my Dowelmax jig for dowel joinery and the table saw and benchtop mortiser for mortise and tenon joints. These are both precise but not so speedy.
I had some trepidation when I bought the Festool DF700 machine in 2013 – but never looked back – as it has changed the way I work. IMO its only competition is the Mafell Duo Doweler – but once patents expire, I expect to see other alternatives.

Good that I am still feeling the sting of having just paid my credit cards which dampens my shopping ambitions.
Jronman
Reminds me of the 10% off a dust extractor deal they did years ago. This is even better.
Stuart
Wasn’t that just a bundle discount?
Jronman
yup it was if you buy a tool you can then have the option to buy a dust extractor at 10% off for the dust extractor only. I bought the ct48 for 10% off somehow managed to find a TSC 55 for $50 off and also managed to get 4 free 5.2 ah batteries. It was probably the best deal I have ever gotten for any tool purchase.

I’ve had my eye on trying out the Festool 14mm domino connectors. I’ve been using Lamello Clamex fittings – but the Festool ones look like they may have some advantages. OHPT doesn’t seem to stock them – neither individually nor in sets like the #576795. So nice sale – but nothing for me. Thanks anyway Stuart for spotting this and letting us know.

First sawstop now festool… what a time to be alive
Stuart
(They’re part of the same company now.)

I may be wrong, but the current crop of discounts at OHPT, BIS, USTF, and ToolNut – seem to be more like clearing out slow-selling stock than a general sale. It seems to be happening at some EU sellers too:
https://www.misterworker.com/en-us/festool/special-offers/4541
It doesn’t seem to be across the board with all Festool dealers participating – so it’s hard to know what prompted the “sale”

Seems the majority of tools on sale are battery powered. Corded models remain regular price.
Which fits with my opinion that Festool lags in battery tech.

I was able to buy the Festool 1010 REQ- F + with Light Module for 475 normally 559. And that was a new release on June 1. (special edition with the light module) Definitely not battery powered
Vince
Thanks Stuart!
