The price of this Gearwrench 20pc screwdriver set, model 80066H, has fallen to under $60, with Amazon describing it as a “limited time deal.”
I bought this set in 2021 for $80 and would buy it again, without hesitation.
The tips seem very durable, the handles are comfortable, and you get a good selection of sizes and styles with this set.

The pricing has fluctuated for a while. I thought $80 was a good value for the 20pc set when I bought it. At under $60, I’d consider it a HOT BUY.
Price: $56.29
At the time of this posting, Home Depot is matching Amazon’s sale pricing.
These are far from being my favorite screwdrivers, but I do like the quality and value this set offers. They’re good and the price seems right.
I’d consider this step to be a good choice for anyone building up a new tool kit. For everyone else, consider whether you need everything it offers.
Even if you don’t need everything that the 20pc set offers, its pricing makes it a more compelling choice over some of Gearwrench’s other options. For instance, this set is around $56, while they’re also selling a 12pc set for around $59, and a 10pc set for around $57.

Amazon says this is a limited time deal, but there’s no mention of any expiration date. Their “was” pricing seems off; Acme Tools has the same set for $99.59 right now.

What are you favorite screwdrivers?

If I had to pick an overall favorite, it would be PB Swiss SwissGrip.

PB Swiss SwissGrip, me also, followed closely by the Felo Ergo grips.
The Wera’s also have a softer grip than acetate, but never loved the handle shape. I have a couple and use them, like them, but do not love them like the 2 aforementioned.

I have a set of Wiha nutdrivers (ESD) and torx (ESD) that are black and yellow. They are the worst on my inner palm. Its not pleasant when doing alot of disassembly of components…if I could fit a long, hollow, socket on a driver or impact, I would, but I do it infrequent that I can’t justify.
I also have a MacTools ratcheting bit driver (bits store in the handle) and its fit isn’t great either. Funny, I find myself gravitating to my Craftsman 1990’s drivers. I also have some snapon drivers that I got when I knew a Mastermechanic that would get some specials and buy for me. Thing is, I need a set in the garage box, a set in the go-to-tool bag and a set in the house/basement work bench. And they have to be comfortable as well as not roll when laid down or dropped. And a set that has a PZ1 and PZ2, along with torx 10->40. Special gunsmithing bits I can get from Brownells…
I like gearwrench but I have to try these in person…

There’s always the option to buy a single screwdriver in whatever size you use most, e.g. Phillips #2, Torx, hex, etc. I do that sometimes to explore new screwdriver handle types and brands.

2.5mm to 3/16″ is a big gap on slotted. There should be at least one 3mm or 1/8″.
Stuart
They sell one separately – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KHSHBRH/?tag=toolguyd-20 and in a longer length – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KHR1D7D/?tag=toolguyd-20 but at those prices I’d complement with a 4-in-1 or similar.
Most sets are lacking of at least one size.
GW has a “complete” 51pc set that sells for close to $300, and there are some holes there too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08TJ14GWK/?tag=toolguyd-20

I can’t remember the last time I used a stubby screwdriver. If I’m limited in space, I pull out a right-angle 1/4” rachet, and pop in an appropriate bit.
Personally, I wish more screwdriver sets came with PZ1 and PZ2 drivers. I use PZs occasionally, but never stubby anything.
For example, I had to assemble a bunch of Ikea furniture for my kid’s dorm, and all the fasteners were either Allen or PZ. I have a bunch of European electronics that are assembled with PZ too.

One can complement with this PZ set:

It’s rather pricey at the moment, but has got the same style of handles 🙂
Scotty.
Noticed that Amazon Warehouse has this PZ set available in “used-like new” condition for $29
Every time I have purchased something listed like this it has been like new.

That’s a sweet deal, Scotty!

Nice find! I actually have the previous-gen version of that GearWrench set with red & black handles.
My most recent screwdriver purchase was an $80 Wera Kraftform 300-series 14-piece set (stock number 05105630001), which Amazon calls a 16-piece (because they want to count the two plastic storage racks that I immediately chucked).
For the kind of work I do (European motorcycles & boats, various electronics & doodads, and then all the usual home DIY stuff), the Wera set was the most optimal selection of tools for a reasonable $80:
PH1, PH2, PH3
0.6×3.5, 0.8×4, 1.2×6.5 slotted
PZ1, PZ2, PZ3
TX10, TX15, TX20, TX25, TX30
All of them have laser-etched tips, which I prefer over the Gearwrench black-oxide tips (especially in low light)
I ended up augmenting the set with a slotted driver one-size-up, but I don’t do a lot of plumbing work, so I didn’t feel the need to have any larger slotted ones in my primary toolbag. I figure I can pull out an old slotted driver out of garage if I need anything bigger.
(An aside — it amazes me that plumbers can accomplish 90% of their work with a 5/16” slotted driver, an adjustable wrench, and the flashlight on their phone.)

I’ve got mine – Wiha 313 SoftGrip PZ0x60(mm), PZ1x80 and PZ2x100 – quite some time ago, and now can’t even find where did I order these from. I’m quite happy with these, but then not long ago I bought Felo Ergonic 53129 and 52793, PZ3x150 and PZ2x100 respectively, and I prefer Felo handles much more than the SoftGrips. Tips are good in all the those screwdrivers though.

I have Gearwrench TX15, TX20, TX27 and TX30 drivers, all bought separately (as well as a TX5-TX10 set), and they all work nicely, so far.
Andy H
Cool beans. I like the GearWrench tools I have. They all work well and feel good in the hand. Plus, they’re well labeled too. I have a bunch of precision Wiha and Felo drivers, but none of their “standard” size tools.

Funny how we tend to see things differently. I bought fourteen (14) of those plastic screw driver holders that you threw away. I have them mounted all over my workshop. I wanted to buy more the other day but the price had jumped so ended up with a couple of those red plastic/silicone horizontal holders.
Andy H
Dang! My town doesn’t recycle plastic other than bottles, so I literally threw those wall racks away.
Too bad freecycling things like this is such a PITA. Post anything like this on a freecycling forum or FB or wherev, and you get a thousand questions, and half of them are totally random, like, “Will this hold my hummingbird feeder to my kitchen window?”

After taking your advice and buying a few PB Swiss SwissGrips, I’m going to find it hard to return to anything else. They’re that good.

This was meant as a reply to Stuart, sorry it ended up in the wrong place.

Their previous style screwdrivers (red/black handle) were amazing. I still have mine and use them daily.
I dunno, I miss the old GearWrench. Their new offerings are lackluster.

I have a similar set that lives in the garage, might even be this set. Been quite happy with them over the last 3+ years.

Do you know who makes theses screwdrivers? I bought the same set but Kolbalt branded ( but green) a couple of holiday seasons ago for a really good deal(40$) . But they also came with a nice foam organizer. It looks like this comes with a cheaper plastic organiser.
Stuart
Apex Tool Group owns Gearwrench and regularly manufactures tools for other brands. It’s possible they made the Kobalt set too.
