Greenlee Hawk Bill Utility Knife

Greenlee has voluntarily recalled about 1800 folding utility knives due a laceration hazard. The blade locking mechanism can fail, allowing the blade to accidentally fold inward unexpectedly. Greenlee has received a singly report of the blade lock failing, and no injuries have been reported.

The recall includes Greenlee Hawk Bill pocket knives, models 0652-27 and UT652-27. These knives were sold between September and November 2011 and retailed for ~$20.

If you have one of these knives, stop using it and return it to a distributor for a full refund. You can contact Greenlee for more information at 800-435-0786.

    Hey Stuart

…While you’re on the subject of recalls and utility knifes

I went looking at my local Home Depot for the Milwaukee Fastback Utility Knife last weekend and came up empty. Even went to 2 other HD’s in the same area and didnt get lucky there either.

Now I could have sworn I saw them there before hand. Being that HD sells Milwaukee brand and all and seeing the unique handle of the fastback.
So I to myself let me check their website and perhaps they are just out of stock around here… And from the looks of it, its either a discontinued item or they just dont sell them in NY anymore as it says they cant ship to certain states (AK, HI,NY)

Just curious if you heard anything on the subject. I couldnt find a reason for it.
Was there a recall on this knife too, or just some news laws against it?

    P.S.
I went with a Leatherman Wingman from HD after watching your side by side review. The package opener was just what I was looking for. And the rest of the tool is dandy too.
    Thanks

Made in China? It wouldn’t surprise me. I don’t think much of their hand tools.

We have recently purchased a couple of this Greenlee Hawk Bill knifes and they seems to be good. Only the handle was a bit different –
Thought it was made in China for less than $25 I would recommend it!
