Here’s a look at Harbor Freight’s Black Friday 2024 tool deals sales flyer.

I visited my local store to see if they had mini tool boxes, and found a stack of printed sales flyers at the front. So, I brought one home and took some photos.

And no, they don’t have any more mini tool boxes – it seems Harbor Freight pulled them from the floor to save for Black Friday as a doorbuster-type deal.

Harbor Freight’s Black Friday deals go live on 11/25/24 for Inside Track Club subscribers, and 11/28/24 (online-only, 11/29 in-store) for the non-subscribing public. The deals end on Cyber Monday, 12/2/24.

Following are some of the highlights, and you look over the sales flyer for everything else.

US General Mini Tool Box – $10
Predator 5000W Super Quiet Generator – $800
US General 5-Drawer Mechanics Cart – $190
Daytona 3-Ton Jack Stands – $25
Badland 3-Ton Off-Road Jack – $250

Of course the mini tool box is going to be one of the stars of the sales event. I suspect it’s going to sell out quickly, maybe even before Black Friday if paid club subscribers show up in droves.

Bauer 20V Brushless Impact Wrench Kit – $130
Modular Welding Table – $150
Icon Socket Sets – Save 40%

The Icon socket set deal will surely draw lots of attention to the mechanics tools aisle.

I was tempted to use a 25% coupon on the hex bit sockets, but am glad I waited. Although, I don’t think I’m going to be up to dealing with the crowds around Black Friday – we’ll see. Maybe I’ll go with Tekton.

Yukon 46″ 9-Drawer Mobile Tool Cabinet – $300
US General Series 3 72″ Rolling Tool Cabinet – $1400

A lot of folks love US General tool boxes and mobile workbenches, although the price on this one seems a bit high to me. You can get a Husky 72″ roller cabinet from Home Depot for considerably less.

Daytona 1.5 Ton Aluminum Floor Jack – $98
Daytona 6 Ton Jack Stands – $50
Pittsburgh 3 Ton Low Profile Floor Jack – $90
Pittsburgh 2 Ton Folding Shop Crane – $300

Harbor Freight’s jacks tend to have a decent reputation.

Personally, I think the 2 ton shop crane is one of the best Harbor Freight-made products I’ve ever tested. They sent one for review, and I found its assembly, fit, finish, and overall quality to be a step above other Harbor Freight gear I’ve used.

Harbor Freight is always pushing their credit card – pay attention to the fine print, especially the interest rates (>32%).

Bauer 20V Cordless Drill and Impact Driver Combo Kit – $84
Bauer Rolling Tool Box – $45
Bauer 8V Cordless Rotary Tool Kit – $35

I don’t expect much from an 8V-class cordless rotary tool, but the price seems low enough a lot of folks might be very forgiving of any flaws.

I’ve purchased Bauer cordless power tools before, and found them to be roughly equivalent to Ryobi’s entry-priced line of 18V tools. Harbor Freight encourages users to “compare to Milwaukee,” but there’s no comparison – Bauer tools don’t come close.

Still, $84 for a 2-tool combo kit isn’t bad, although personally, I’d spend a little more and instead get the Craftsman 2-tool combo from Amazon for $99.

Hercules 20V Impact Wrench Kit – $208
Hercules Universal Band Saw Benchtop Stand – $90
Hercules 12″ Dual Bevel Miter Saw – $300

The Hercules band saw stand launched at $99 last year, I’m not sure where the “was $119.99” is coming from. Still, a small discount is better than none.

Which of these HF Black Friday deals are you considering, if any?

The Ryobi High torque PBLIW01 (with battery and charger) goes on sale for $159 fairly regularly and has been thoroughly reviewed here and on places like TTC.
That’s a better gun for less money IMO, especially if you happen to be in the Ryobi ecosystem already.

And even if you’re not in Ryobi already, you will be thankful to buy into that system instead of anything from HF. Tons more tool options, and though I cannot say from experience, I would venture a guess that build quality & functionality of Ryobi are AT LEAST on par with Hercules across the entire tool lineup.

And you know it seems they will never abandon the ryobi format. Plus where’s the hercules glue gun???

I’d go ryobi over HF any day- and have moved to go ryobi over makita even. not because it’s better, but because a drill repair would have cost $100, it was the second time that drill needed repairs, and it was black friday last year so for $260 i got 4 batteries, drill, impact, 2 chargers, circ saw, trim router. i always wanted a cordless trim router anyway!

Whoops, that Ryobi is NOT more powerful. Got my models confused.
This particular Hercules is quite good. TTC shows the second gen ultra torque to be better than the first in select testing. The Ryobi is also a solid choice but not quite as powerful.
Either can be a great choice depending on what you already own and (of course) if the price is right.

I’m definitely thinking of upgrading to a quieter generator, but those deals are roughly equivalent to the 25% coupons that get emailed out semi-regularly. I probably would have pulled the trigger if they were a bit more compelling, but I don’t feel the same sense of urgency knowing I can likely pick one up for the same price at a later date.

They’re also the only jack stands that have been recalled, despite various documentation that the same jack stands were sold under multiple other brands and made in the same facility. I believe the first recall had some minor injuries related to it’s release, but the second was entirely voluntary on HF’s side, specifically for product not meeting their quality standards.

I’ve always been of the mindset to never trust only jack stands, and they are only ever one layer of protection. If you’re taking off the wheel/tire assembly, put it underneath a solid part of the vehicle structure. Sure, if the jack stand fails or tips over, you’ll scratch/dent the wheel, but it’s dead near guaranteed to hold the weight of the vehicle, and leave you enough space to wriggle out, even if it means us ’rounder’ people might end up with some scuffs from it. Far better than being crushed alive no matter how we look at it.

but the fact that there’s been silence from any of the other dozen similarly priced and manufactured jack stand ‘brands’ (loose term, as many are built in the same plant with just a different sticker at the end, and many just as much involved in the “race to the bottom” on price) should really speak far louder than your warning for any singular brand implies.

I agree with you about redundancy, and I wasn’t trying to pick on just HF, just simply mention it.

To put my own take on what MattT said above: If something can fail in a way that potentially maims or kills me, I want to buy a quality product that I trust and I want to have several layers of redundancy if at all possible.

Do the HF jack stands work safely for 99+% of the people who use them correctly? I have no doubt that’s true.

It comes down to what each person is comfortable with and what they can afford and are willing to pay a little more for.

Those recalls have nothing to do with these jack stands. These are completely different versions and have double locks on them for redundancy.

Not wanting yet another kind of battery, I stayed with M18 and M12 as long as I could. But I couldn’t resist the Metabo 36V router nor the Hercules $99 starter kit with free bandsaw. I already have the bandsaw stand in the flyer, which I am happy with. I’m also sure HF learned their lession with the jack stands, and will do the right thing and recall my aluminum stands if a problem reveals itself. I need to stock up on the $5 gloves, but nothing else caught my eye.

It’s not looking likely. A coworker talked with a nearby HF employee about the toolboxes since they were pulled.

They were told that the boxes were flying off the shelf so fast, corporate made the decision to pull them to maintain some inventory for the black Friday sale.

But that specific store said they were down to 12 boxes remaining, and only in black.

I think it’s going to be tough to get only one box, and that’s including if you’re an inside track member, on Monday the 25th at the start of the sale, when they’re re-released.

I don’t believe there will be any in-store stock left by the time the black Friday sale opens up to everyone on the 29th. There’s a very high potential there might not be any stock left by the end of business day on Monday.

It’s possible they’ll open up online sales for them, but so far, every indication is that it’s an in-store item only, same as the ‘gordon multi-tool’ Leatherman wave copy, or the icon knife clone of the Begg Knives Mini Glimpse. Both were available for a short initial release in late 2023, and have been otherwise unobtainable until only very recently in very select stores, but remain an in-store only item.

A hf employee told me that they were indeed flying off the shelfs. And there Inside track club members will get early access starting Monday. So good luck if you find one……

Zip ties are tough to compare.

Are their differences between brand-name and cheap brands? Yes, absolutely. Does it manner? Most of the time, no.

I like the ones from Automation Direct – 7.87″ x 0.18″ width and 2″ max bundle diameter for $2.50 per 100-count bag. They’re also made in Italy. I use them for wire tidying, and not building or construction applications.

Looking at HF and HD zip ties, the HF ones are UL Type 21-rated, and the ones at HD are UL Type 21S.

Type 21S zip ties, from a quick google search, must maintain at least 220 N (~23kg, ~50 lb) tensile strength for longer.

If an application calls for Type 21S, you cannot use Type 21. But if you’re just using zip ties for convenience purposes, it doesn’t really matter.

Looking further online, I see Type 21S zip ties as being rated for building construction applications. There’s no mention of Type 21, at least not I can find. Such details tend to require much deeper searching.

Being able to meet such greater requirements would absolutely contribute to higher pricing.

Understanding things further than what I can dig up in a few minutes via Google will require either a lot more time to dig into reference books and code requirements, or a chat with authorities on the matter.

Code requirements are very nuanced. In some cases, seemingly subtle differences can be associated with a 2X or 3X difference in price – or more.

Like you said, most of the time it doesn’t matter.
I am HVAC contractor and zip ties are used mostly to hold togheter wires and a couple of other electrical things.
All this fancy code names and numbers are, to me, just marketing hype, a different way to sell 50 cents zip ties package for $11.
Yestarday i opened the WF package and made a ring with zip tie, not pulling it all the way and not close it totally. Grabbed the ring and pull it with both hands, twisted with a screwdriver and also tried to burn it with a lighter, nothing happen.
So to me this is good enough, sorry i am not trying to be negative here, but you have to admit that sometimes this marketing is too much. At least this is my opinion.

          Safety ratings aren’t marketing.

Generally, many rules, codes, regulations, and similar exist because people got hurt, killed, or suffered preventable

Not knowing the details of specific safety ratings, codes, or certifications, or why they exist doesn’t make them “marketing.”

    • JR Ramos

      Nov 18, 2024

The HF ones are inconsistent in how they tension and they break pretty easily (you can get the same quality at HD and everywhere else, too). Put them in the sun and they will get brittle much faster. In addition to the tensile strength, the better ties with stabilizers and UV magic just stay more flexible indoors and out and they don’t ever seem to have duds. I don’t know if this is accurate still or for everyone, but I was told that most of the cheaper ones from China used some bare base nylon material (just a poor choice for the application) while better ones were using standard nylon 6….and the best were using nylon 6-6. From textile fibers and fabrics we know that 6-6 is superior in many ways over plain run of the mill 6….I’d assume the same qualities would apply in a zip tie as they do there, but I don’t know for sure.

The cheapies are fine for a lot of things. Long term or if breakage will be a problem, then it’s smart to buy the better ones. Prices at HD are ridiculous, though…even their large bulk packs are not conveying bulk pricing…that’s just HD. I snagged five tubes of the Ideal branded ones at Lowe’s for a song on closeout in store…those are really good ties.

I saw the Icon in stores over the weekend. I think Milwaukee has a superior tray and its case is very low profile.

If you prefer, you can split the Icon set up, with SAE, metric, and drive tools in different places, all in their foam trays.

I bought a couple of Icon tools, and they’re alright. I prefer the Milwaukee set, but see the Icon as a fine choice.

Do you want a low-profile case with removable hard tray, or foam trays with vertically-oriented sockets?

Truth be told, how often do you realistically use the warranty on any item past 90 days?

Personally, I rarely do, so the limitation really only comes into play with heavier duty gear that costs towards the upper end of your price spectrum. The majority of items I’m getting are less than $100 each, which either works out of the box, or doesn’t, and gets returned

I just got back from Harbor Freight. I was almost an hour adte rthey opened (not realizing they opened at 8am today) and they were down to 6 mini-tool boxes, 3 red, 3 black. The clerk I talked to said everyone who came through the door at 8 bought 2 tools boxes, mostly blue. They have more to put out for Friday, but he said if you want the tool boxes, be in line before they open. I saw several people come in get the boxes and get angry because 1) they didn’t have more colors, and 2) they couldn’t get the early pricing since they’re not club members.

I don’t like black tool boxes, since they make it hard to see and; I flat out don’t like red. I bought one of each. I picked up a 2 drawer from Lowes the other day and there’s no question the HF is the better item.

I was surprised at how heavy they are. The lid stays upright, unlike the Lowes version which flops back. The HF has better drawer slides. At full price ($18) they’re a bargain. At $10 they’re a steal. I’d love to see HF add a lower unit as well, add some colors and make them stock.

That 72″ husky tool box link for Home Depot shows the price as $1498 I believe which is more than the US General is, plus they’ll accept a coupon for it at HF. I’m not sure why you said it was a better deal, unless it changed prices and I’m totally wrong. I know this post is a little dated now.

The Husky box shows up as $998 for me, at the time the post was published and still now, which is $401 less than the Harbor Freight sale price.

I picked up the HF Mini Toolbox on Monday and it’s going to be a great seller for them! Everything about it is like a higher end box, not a cheap toy. I hope they will have a bottom box for it in the future. Real drawer slides, drawer liners, great finished look make this awe inspiring right out of the box.

I can see some customizing things, people will do in the future with this box. Girlfriend said she will bedazzle hers…lol

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

I picked up the Bauer trim router for $27 (had to join the club) to use I. A loose tenon jig I’m making. We’ll see how it works on that light duty project.
