I’ve been using a review sample since the triple hammer impact driver came out, and it’s by far my favorite impact driver. Others are pretty good, even almost as good, but this one’s my favorite. It’s hard to recommend at times, though, because the kit costs $369! (Price check via Amazon.) How can I recommend a $369 impact driver kit when there are other really good impact drivers that cost a lot less?

Right now, you can buy an M18 Fuel impact driver kit for $149 as part of a holiday season promo. The M18 is a very good tool, even excellent, but I prefer the Hitachi. But at more than double the price for the kit? Eh…
For $139, though? This is a great impact driver at a great price. A superb price.
As Steve mentioned in his comment, you’re basically getting the $369 kit, except for the carrying case. To save $239 compared to the price of the kit? I can live with having to source my own carrying bag or tool box.

This Hitachi deal has been going on since Black Friday. On Cyber Monday I picked one up for $139 less the 10% too. I sent you an email on it Stuart back then. Is there another email address for the deals?
The deal is also on other Hitachi 18V products too. I also picked up Hitachi’s best 18V drill DS18DBFL2P4 on the same deal Cyber Monday. Not as impressive a tool as the impact driver but a real well built powerful drill with LED etc. Unfortunately after Cyber Monday the price on the drill went back up again to $149 because Hitachi is trying to dump their “kit” with plastic case and two 1.5 batteries. This deal also has Hitachi’s best charger and not the usual “cheapo” manufacturers typically throw in on these deals.

I’m sorry, that entire week was a blur. I was just so busy trying to get out all the coverage I wanted and felt I needed to. So many emails were coming in that I missed a lot, although I do see yours now, and that I flagged it as urgent and response-needed. The week after that I had strep, pneumonia, and a 104.8 fever. I took it easy for a full week, and I’m still not fully caught up from that.

Yep, I bought another triple hammer with this deal weeks ago from Acme. Took an extra week to get the batteries and charger part. I’m adding more Hitachi regularly. Just got a new SDS plus hammer drill new from ebay with the 15% off over the weekend off an already reduced price. You should let people know when ebay runs their montly deals on everything, as good as any Acme 15% that you post about.
Not being snarky, just a suggestion, maybe fewer knives and flashlight posts and more tool posts, ebay sitewide deals, and things like that where buyers can get good discounts on a variety of things.

I don’t do ebay deals. I check a few retailers’ deals daily, and a couple more when their newsletters come in. If I ever start checking ebay regularly, maybe then I’ll start posting about ebay deals. But in my roughly 15 years of buying tools online, I have never bought any from ebay.
Someone wrote in about a sitewide ebay deal a week or two ago, but I didn’t see it in my inbox until it was too late.

The ebay % off deals are somewhat new, like a year or so I think. It can occasionally make for some excellent deals even when purchasing from dealers with traditional online storefronts, like CPO.
You could get a new DW735X planer for $365 from Factory Authorized Outlet about a month back. They sold a lot of those.

They’re making a push to remain relevant in the era of Amazon and Walmart. Personally I’m more than happy to be using their discounts on top of the discounts for factory refurbished tools.

That might the strangest thing for someone with a tool blog and deals being mentioned all the time. In 15 years you have never purchased tools from ebay? I’ve been on ebay for 20 years now and have bought countless new tools at prices that are easily as good or better than non holiday deals through out the year. I have things to build regularly for clients so I don’t wait until Xmas to buy tools on discount. I keep a short list of needs and know I can get a deal often from ebay or Acme.
Every month this year ebay has a 10-15% sitewide discount. It’s a big deal so I would suggest you follow that. There are plenty of people who are buying new Festool at 15% off. There is absolutely zero offer anywhere else that legally enables 15% off new Festool tools. So yes, ebay monthly discounts are a big deal. Most any tool can be found from ebay sellers, many are the same online retailers you mention and many we all use, Acme Tools, CPO, Tool Barn, Tools Plus and many more.
Some new items I’ve saved 15% off this year using ebay : Graco Ultra Max sprayer, rolling steel shop cabinet, Fuji Spray 2qt pressure pot, Festool MFT replacement top, Kalamazoo 10″ disc sander, Festool Domino XL assortment and connector set, Makita cordless router, Hitachi SDS+ cordless hammer drill.
Yep ebay discount is a big deal worth following. Plenty of forums I visit and random other blogs make posts about the same day ebay sitewide discounts.

Ebay is great for tools. Discounts are regular. I’ve bought tools off ebay for the last 7 years. In fact, 90% of my tool buying is from ebay because the prices are often the lowest, the search function is powerful, used items are available, and if it’s listed on ebay then it’s in stock and will ship without delay (no back orders etc). I also recommend having a look.

What I like about the Hitachi/Metabo HPT is that it has a great balanced feel, and the triple hammer mechanism really does give it a smoother feel. It gradually became my go-to 18V impact.

I actually just bought the 3rd gen fuel a couple days ago, and I’m going to return it since I got this deal. A co worker has the triple hammer and I’ve tried it a few times. A little less power than the Milwaukee, but way smoother an quieter, and the balance and ergonomics are much better. The Hitatchi has always been too expensive for me and I didnt have any batteries or a charger, but with this deal it was the same price as the gen. 3 bare tool so I had to jump on it.

Yes, I think so, seeing as how the kit is still regularly $369. It’s just not as “WOW, buy it NOW!!” great of a deal.

I searched all over and could not find one other vendor participating in this Hitachi free started kit promotion. The thing I liked about it was it is/was on the already discounted bare tools and not the goofy proprietary case discounts like Makita. Their $25 off $100 deal is basically just a discounted case that won’t fit any other tool. I really like the trend towards the contractor bags. They take up way less room and I can use those for lots of things.
I could see why Stuart doesn’t want to get involved with Ebay. That is a bit of a can of worms. You can pick up some really good deals but there are tons of bad sellers and misrepresented returns/refurbs products etc. Ebay also does not have a program where Stuart can pick up a buck or two redirecting sales to sites like Acme or Amazon etc. I think he is definitely entitled to that and our warm fuzzies can’t keep his site going. Thanks Stuart and glad to feel you are feeling better.
Anyone know if there is some posted schedule which shows when the Ebay discounts are going to happen? They just seem to fall out of the sky to me. Half the time the day after I bought something.

Revenue doesn’t factor into things, as ebay does have an affiliate program where purchases made through links could lead to referral revenue.
My avoidance of ebay is mainly tied to interest, habit, time, and headache-avoidance.
Site-wide deals are infrequent, and since I don’t check ebay for personal use, if I don’t catch a tip by a certain time it’s harder and more problematic to post about. Vendor-related deals are often limited supply, otherwise they’d be on their main sites and other marketplaces.
