As I was walking through Home Depot yesterday, I saw such a large price drop on the Bessey clutch-style bar clamps that my jaw dropped.
I then took a closer look at all of their holiday displays, and found a few more early season deep discounts. What’s really funny was that I had just been to another home Depot and didn’t see any of the same deals.
When I got home I verified that the deal were in fact real and not just limited to my local Home Depot, that other store must not have marked down their inventory yet.

A lot of these reduced prices are available online, and not just in-store. Not all gift center items are being discounted beyond their original “special buy” prices!

Many if not all of the discounted tools are available for online ordering, but it might be easier to simply visit your local Home Depot. You should also be able to order online for in-store pickup.

Bessey 6pc Clutch Clamps
I was excited last June when I spotted the deal on the 6 piece Bessey Clutch Clamp set. When Home Depot brought this set back for the holiday season, I still thought it was a good deal. Now that they’ve slashed the price to $17, it’s a deal that’s hard to refuse. I had to restrain myself from buying a few sets.

These clamps sell for $10 EACH elsewhere! Or at least, it looks like these are the same exact clamps. We can’t see any differences. The model number is the same – GSCC2.506.

Bessey Steel Spring Clamp Set
I was also impressed with the value of the Bessey spring clamp set when Home Depot started stocking it last month. $10 is a pretty good price for 9 Bessey spring clamps, but at the new $7 price, that’s less than $1 a spring clamp.
Since this really hasn’t been a mover in any of the stores I’ve visited, I had been planing on waiting to pick this up on deep discount after Christmas, but at this price I just couldn’t walk out of the store without buying a set.
Price is now $6.
Milwaukee Multi-Bit Ratcheting Screwdriver and Stubby
This Milwaukee screwdriver bundle, which comes with a full-size ratcheting screwdriver and compact 8-in-1 driver, has dropped in price from $20 to $14.
Dewalt Screwdriver Set
Previously $20, Home Depot has dropped the price of the Dewalt MaxFit 22pc Screwdriver set to $15. I was going to write an article on how you need to be careful because the holiday displays aren’t always the best deal. I thought that the 8 piece Dewalt Max Fit Set was a better deal at $30 because you got 8 actual screwdrivers, not 4 screwdrivers and an multi-bit set. This price drop pretty much made that post idea obsolete.
This set is now $14.
Ryobi Drill and Driving Set
Previously $15, this Ryobi 101-piece Drill and Driving bit set is now $10. I’ve had pretty good luck with other Ryobi accessories for around the house, so unless the quality of their accessories has drastically changed, this isn’t a bad deal. And like clamps, I don’t think there such as thing as too many drill bits.
Dewalt DW745 Table Saw
Similar to what they did last year, Home depot slashed the price of Dewalt’s DW745 portable table saw. It’s now $250.

Some Advice
The tools I listed above were some of the better discounts, there still were other tools marked down from their original holiday display price. You also need to be careful as some of the displays I saw had “new lower price” stickers, but the prices weren’t any lower than earlier in the holiday season.
I’m not sure why Home Depot has slashed the prices on these particular tools. In some of the Home Depot stores I’ve visited, the displays for these tools are almost empty or gone altogether, while in others displays of the same tools were still full.
Of course many of these products might be sold out by now at your local stores, so you might have to order them online and have them shipped to your closest Home Depot.
You have two options for gift center tools that are still on your shopping list.
- Buy now, while you can
- Wait and see if the prices drop any further
Two years ago, there was a deal on Rayovac camo flashlights. They didn’t sell very well, and were discounted to $12 in early January. By the last week of January, they dropped to $4 each, and sold rapidly.
If you buy now and the price drops, you *might* be able to do a return and rebuy. If you wait to see if the price drops, a reseller might beat you to it and buy out the entire display.

Got my second set of these clamps yesterday evening. They even applied a vet discount to them for me! Officially, they’re not supposed to apply it to ‘black friday’ prices.
They’re not the nicest ‘F style’ clamps out there but at ~$16 for 6, I’ll take them over anything else available around that price. One of these days, I’ll get some of the Jorgensen ‘HD’ clamps in other, larger, sizes.

If you’re in the market for a nice, compact table top table saw, BUY THAT DEWALT!!!!
I have it’s bigger brother, the DWE7491RS, and while I love the saw, there are times I wish for something I could quickly pull out a smaller version and use it on the work bench for smaller projects. With the larger stand based model, I need to clear shop space.
Plus, I only needed to use it’s (admittedly impressive) cross cut capacity of 32″ once, and it required two people, and due to how clunky the logistics were, it wasn’t a great cut (user error, not the saws fault).
That said, believe the hype around it’s fence system. She stays square without further adjustment, and it’s great to just pick your cut width and go, no square checks. Yes the miter gauge is a fisher price toy, but I’d take awesome fence and easily upgraded miter guage over the alternative any day!
Looking back, I think the perfect combo for me would have actually been the $250 saw above, and a decent track saw. The saw above can do some of the smaller, high precision work, and the track saw breaks down larger out-sized projects much easier.
This all assuming you’re in a situation like mine, and full blown floor mount table saw just won’t work logistically in your shop.

One word: dado.
If you care about being able to use a dado blade, don’t get this saw. In it’s infinite wisdom, DeWalt has decided to rob DW745 of dado blade mounting capability, making people like me think twice about buying this model.
If only it was capable of dadoes, it would’ve been the best portable table saw on the market, hands down! As you are 100% right about the fence, you can’t beat it.
I still bought DW745, but at times I wish I picked up it’s slightly bigger brother (DWE7491RS) and had ability to cut dadoes. It’s not that much bigger and I still have to clear my shop when I need to use my DW745, but my shop is a tiny 10×12 room.

Actually, some light research, the Dewalt is not recommended for doing dado cuts… I think I did o.k. with the Bosch….

We really need to put in a disclaimer every time we mention the Dewalt DW745 or the DWE7480 that you can’t use a dado stack.
Better yet Dewalt should plaster it all over the saws in 4 inch letters, that’d be more useful than all the safety warnings nobody reads printed on the saw.

The Ridgid table saw is still $249, and can handle dados. Is there a reason why the Dewalt seems to be so much more popular, especially when it’s usually $299 or more? Is it all about the fence?

Laziness on the staff at Home Depot. I visited two local Home Depots and while they didn’t have the reduced prices taped to the displays at one store, I brought over a set of clamps and a scanned it at $6.98.

I bought two of the 6″ Bessey’s online with store pickup. When I got there they only had 1 pulled. The lady returned and re-purchased them at 10% off for my trouble. Pretty nice of them.

I did not see the 6 pack of 6″ Bessey clamps anywhere in my local Home Depot yesterday (neither in the “holiday” section or over by the clamps). The lady working the area didn’t know what I was talking about either. I did see the spring clamps for $7 and bought that. The only Bessey clutch clamps I saw was a 4 pack for $30 (I think 2 large, 2 medium).
Did anyone see the Dewalt package that had 2 toggle clamps and a glue gun ($17, I think)? I thought about getting that but a) wasn’t sure it was a good deal b) don’t really need a 2nd glue gun (although the Dewalt one appeared to be much nicer than my $5 mini glue gun).
That was the first time I’ve been in to Home Depot this holiday season, and I have to say I didn’t really see anything that caught my eye, and my money mostly stayed in my wallet. Of course, a lot of the stuff that would have previously been tempting is no longer tempting since I own WAY too much stuff (since reading Toolguyd, hah)
If I didn’t already have it the utility knife, the $15 Dewalt folding utility knife and folding pocket knife was a pretty good deal. The $40 Kreg R3 pocket hole jig w/ free clamp was tempting, but I think they’ve either had the deal going for awhile or it isn’t much off the regular price (I guess unless you include their clamp, which is probably insanely over priced).
The one thing I will probably go back and get is the 14 piece Bosch spade bit set. $20 AND it comes with a pouch. That is nearly as good as the 13 piece set w/ pouch for $16 I missed out on last year.

All three of my Home Depot’s still have large stock of everything (how great is that economy?) Check the website, free shipping if you get over $45 worth of stuff, and we all know how easy that can be…. the 6 pack of clamp are now $15 and the spring clamps $6.
I had the Dewalt clamps and glue gun in my cart, but thought a) are clamps that only hold 200 lbs. worth it and b) my kid has about 3 glue guns and other than temporarily holding work together, what am I going to do with it?
So, I put it back along with the buy 1 get one free Empire 9″ level.
I must admit, the Yellow Dewalt color scheme could sell me a lump of yellow coal…. 😉

I have 4 to 5 Home Depots around me. One of them is in a busy shopping center and is out of just about all the deals and another one of them in a bad location has most of it’s displays full. The others are somewhere in between.
I guess it just depends on where you are. Also I just read an article saying that the DIY is dying, “Do it for me” is growing, and Home Depot is going to start going after the pros more. I know somebody writes every few month about how DIY is dying, but the point of the article is that Home Depot is preparing for declining sales to homeowners.

Not sure it was just my local HD or all, but they had a Makita brushless 18v combo for $269 (normally high $300s). I didn’t take a pic so I don’t know the specific model or previous price. It was in the clearance rack near the front, between the seasonal display and the checkouts.

The should be in the holiday tool area of the store. If you find an empty display they might have more in it covered with cardboard. The only other thing is they have them in top stock somewhere and forgot where they are.

My closest HD (there are 4 all within 5 miles) had plenty of the Bessey F-clamp (GSCC2.506) 6 piece sets on sale for $15 last night. I picked up a set (“you can never have too many clamps”) even though I really don’t need them. These are light duty clamps – not quite up to the other Bessey F-Style clamps that I own (TG and CDS “Tradesman” series ) but at $2.50 per clamp I couldn’t pass up the deal.
While at the store – I also saw a display of Diablo Steel Demon 4.5 inch Type-27 Flap disks (40, 60 or 80 grit) – marked with a “new lower price” sign for $7.97 each – with a buy 2 get one free deal. That works out to $5.31 a piece on 3 – compared to the $6+ that we had been paying for them or similar ones from Norton. Not as good a deal as the clamps – but not bad if you go through a lot of flap disks in a month.

I got a set too. Actually did a return/rebuy from $16.98 to $15. I’m a metal guy but every once in awhile I need clean, soft-jaw clamps for holding metal to wood :). My welding clamps are always nasty, too much so to bring into a client’s home.

I bought a set of those Dewalt drivers. Cool idea but the bit holder and small insert bits don’t work with the magnetic collar. Kind of annoying.

I have the 8 pc Dewalt max fit screwdriver set and I like them. You’re right about the 1″ insert bits not being compatible. I wish they wouldn’t put the yellow band around them that makes it look like they are.
You have to look for the sets with more of the 2″ insert bits. There is one 56 pc holiday set that’s $12 right now marked down from 14.88. The one I can find on the Home Depot site, isn’t the right set, so I’m not linking to it. The one on display looks like it has 7 or 8 of the 2″ bits in Phillips, slotted, and square with an extra collar. I’m guessing it’ll drop in price again because I’ve seen a ton of them at every Home Depot I’ve been to.
It’d be really nice if they made 2″ bit only set with a variety of bits. I rarely ever use the 1″ bits. If I have a choice I’ll grab a 2″ bit.

Seems different Home Depot’s have different specials, but you really have to scan the sku’s. We have 3 HD’s within a very close proximity of each other, so I am able to compare easily.
Don’t forget about Lowe’s, they also sneak in some descent specials, at mine, a 12″ Dewalt 80 Tooth fine blade is now $29.00
