i think im getting too old for all this. its information overload
Stuart
Maybe, but it’s information worth preserving! Just not in separate posts that can clog the built-in search engine.
I also don’t expect anyone to go through the entire post, or maybe not any part of it unless they have specific interest.
I’ll be doing more digital housecleaning. A post from 2010 about a Sears coupon code is just going to be deleted. But combined, some of the older Black Friday and other deal content might still have some academic value.
Reflector
Stuart this kind of archival information is precious to look back on. A digital version of staring back at old catalogs where you could see the offerings of then and the prices they had on holiday.
Thanks for organizing all of it together.
Stuart
Thanks!
Home Depot’s was the most interesting, and I’ll do similar for a couple of others.
Rog
When did Ryobi fully switch to the green? 2012? It looks like there’s a mix of colors in 2011
Stuart
Around 2011-2012? I wasn’t paying very close attention at the time. I think it was a gradual conversion as new tools replaced older ones.
Goodie
I like the old blue a lot better than the loud neon color these days.
CICCIO
I was looking at the 2011 deals.
Everything look so inexpensive back there.
A lot of tools in the $10-$20 range
Except power tools.
That price didn’t change too much especially for combos
fred
Of course – you might want to multiply the 2011 cost by about 1.4 to make it equivalent to a 2024-dollar amount – such has been the impact on inflation.’
Some feel the pinch even more because not everyone’s 2024 income was 1.4x what it was in 2011.
Saulac
The Gorilla work platform is popular here every year. It was 17 bucks in 2012.
Nate
This was a fun look through, I still have some of the tools I purchased from the 2011 black Friday.
It looks like there was no hdx in the 2011 ad, but 2012 shows some hdx deals. That’s about when I think I remember them showing up in home Depot, replacing the cheap husky stuff that used to fit the same roll.
I’m glad you decided to consolidate and keep these, rather than delete. Thank you for the work you put into this every year.
JoelLikestools
This was fun to look through! I got a DeWalt Nicad drill as my first drill; during the awkward transition period to li-ion. I can now pinpoint the year when I gifted my brother a black and white Makita set and my family got me an M12 kit. I have really enjoyed m12 since then. That Dewalt did a few projects, but just gathers dust now. The m12 brushed kit is long in the tooth. I still use mine, and I see tradies using the impact (not the drill though).
It would have been cool if Makita stayed competitive in the 12v space. Klein USA tool bundles were such a bargain!
Jim Felt
Stuart. Thanks for your effort. I think this archive will be enjoyable and useful for us all here for years to come.
And HNY as well.
Rog
This is an awesome cache, Stuart! Thanks for preserving it.
It’s funny to see how far power tool design has come. Some of those tools from 10+ years ago look like cheap toys, even ones from the big three.
avi
This is awesome for the nostalgia alone
Rx9
Fantastic work, Stuart!!!
Jager
So I’m not crazy. Leatherman wingmans really did used to be $20 per the 2014. People look at me crazy when I still assume they’re an affordable multi tool.
Jared
Concurrent with that pricing though, Ryobi tools were still mostly blue and the $99 Dewalt cordless drill deal was a nicad model… reminds me just how long ago that was!
