Yesterday, Home Depot announced their free cordless power tool event for the 2019 Holiday season. By purchasing certain kits from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ryobi, Ridgid, or Makita you can get free power tools.
This is very similar to last years deal event where their are two tiers of free tools. In tier 1, you purchase a less expensive starter kit with a charger and two batteries and receive one free cordless power tool. In tier 2, you purchase a more expensive ($399+) tool kit and receive two free bonus power tools or accessories.
Please note that this year Ryobi doesn’t have a tier 2 deal where you can get two free power tools.

These deals are available both in store and online. To the best of our knowledge, the event is supposed to go on until 2/2/2020, but we’ve seen several different dates listed. You also run the risk of starter kits or popular free bonus tool selections running out if you wait too long, which has happened in past years.
We’ll break down the sale for each of the different brands, and since the process is similar for all the brands, we’ll only go through it once for the first brand.
If you just can’t wait to get started, here’s the sale home page
Home Depot 2019 Free Tool Promotion Page
Milwaukee Promotions

In the first tier, to get a single Milwaukee power tool for free, you have to add the model 48-59-1840P starter kit to your cart for $199. The kit comes with:
- (2) M18 XC4.0 batteries (48-11-1840)
- M18 and M12 charger (48-59-1812)
- A contractor bag
Then you can pick from the list of qualifying free cordless power tools or batteries and add it to your cart. Once the tool is added to your cart, your total will be adjusted so that the prices of the starter kit and “free” tool only adds up to $199, the price of the starter kit.

For some reason the list of tools on the deal page doesn’t include some of the tools eligible for the deal. Notably, the oscillating multi-tool and wet/dry vac don’t appear in the list of choices, but they do work in the promotion.
Price: $199

The second tier works a little differently, you purchase a $399 M18 Fuel cordless combo kit which includes:
- M18 Fuel Hammer Drill (2804-20)
- M18 Fuel Imapct Driver (2853-20)
- Two XC5.0 batteries
- M18 and M12 multi-volt charger
- Carrying case
But for this deal you choose the package that has the two free tools. For example if you wanted the Sawzall and circular saw as your free bonus tool choices, you’d choose the bundle that includes those two tools.

Price: $399
Dewalt Promotions

The Dewalt first tier deal works very similar to the Milwaukee one. You add the DCB205-2CK starter kit to your cart for $199. This kit comes with:
- (2) 20V Max DCB205 5.0Ah batteries
- DCB115 charger
- Soft tool bag
Again, once you add the starter kit to your cart, you can choose from the list of Dewalt tier 1 tools to add to your cart. Unlike the Milwaukee page, there doesn’t appear to be any tools missing.
Price: $199

To quality for the second tier with 2 free tools, you need to purchase the $399 Dewalt DCK299D1T1 combo kit. This kit includes:
- Brushlesss hammer drill (DCD996)
- Brushless impact driver (DCF887)
- FlexVolt 6.0Ah battery
- 20V Max 2.0Ah battery
- Rapid charger (DCB118)
Again for this tier you choose the package with the two free tools that you want.
Price: $399
Ryobi Promotion

This year Ryobi only has the first tier promotion — you buy a starter kit for $149 and get to choose only one free tool.
The starter kit you would have to purchase includes:
- (2) 3.0Ah Lithium+ HP batteries (P191)
- Cup-style charger (P118B)
- Soft tool bag
But wait! You might remember earlier this year for Ryobi Days, that you could purchase this kit for $99 and get a free tool. Does this hint that this deal (or even all the other deals) may get better for Black Friday? We honestly don’t know, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Price: $149
Ridgid Promotions

To qualify for the Ridgid Tier 1 deal you have to purchase this $199 18V Octane starter kit which includes:
- (2) 18V Octane 3.0Ah batteries (AC840088)
- 18V Octane charger (R86092)
- Tool bag
Price $199

To qualify for the two free Ridgid tools you must purchase a $449 R9652 18V cordless power tool combo tool kit that comes with the following:
- Hammer drill (R861105)
- Impact driver (R86035)
- Circular saw (R8652)
- Reciprocating saw (R8642)
- LED worklight (R8693)
- 18V charger (R840095)
- (2) 18V 4.0Ah batteries (R840087) (not Octane)
- Assorted accessories
- Contractor bag
Price: $449
Makita Promotions

The $199 Makita starter kit that’s eligible for free tool bonus tool includes:
- (2) 18V LXT 4.0Ah batteries (BL1840B)
- Rapid charger (DC18RC
- Tool bag
Once again the website seems to be missing a tool that is eligible for the promotion – the LXT variable speed multi-tool.
Price $199

To get two free Makita tools, you’ll need to buy this XT268T brushless drill and impact driver kit for $399. This kit includes:
- 1/2″ brushless hammer drill (XPH07Z)
- Brushless impact driver (XDT142)
- (2) 5.0Ah batteries (BL1850B)
- Rapid Optimum charger (DC18RC)
- Contractor bag
Price: $399

I regret not taking advantage of the Ryobi Days sale. I wonder if they will price-adjust if I buy now and then they reduce the price for black Friday…
Robert
If you buy it now, keep it in it’s box and don’t use it, then if the price drops, just buy it at the store and return the more expensive one. That way you honor the store and you won’t have to wonder if they’ll price match. Also, when it goes back out on the shelf, you’ll give another guy a chance at the deal.
Gordon
Last year the christmas tree I bought went on sale a few days after I put it up. I brought the receipt in and asked if I could do a “return and rebuy” without bringing the tree in. She saw the price difference and happily did it for me. I had to “buy” the tree first, but then she returned the more expensive one to my card.

I got the Dewalt 2nd tier last year, splitting it with my Brother-in-law. I kept the Hammer drill and sander, and he got the impact and 4 batteries. I think we both walked away happy.

Move along nothing to see here. Teaser ads to get people to purchase early and hopefully won’t return for better pricing Black Friday. Just a few days ago Ryobi had the 2 batteries and 2 free tools for $99 but I think it was a screwup as that ad price didn’t last long and many stated they couldn’t checkout once added to their cart.
Aaron
That was definitely a screw up. Home Depot often does that, where they roll out part of the promotion but not the other part and for a little while you can get weird prices. Typically around Black Friday and Ryobi days they have a few of these false starts. If you jump on it, stay within reason on quantity, and stay polite the local hd stay are usually pretty cool about honoring it.
Pastor Dan
Nothing in the M12 line?
Frank D
I might like to get two more batteries and a tool, but the free tool selection seems too limited for me. I have the basics covered between corded and battery.

Huh — I just tried with the 7.25″ cordless miter saw and didn’t get a discount in the cart.
Some nicer tools on that list than during the $99 promo. Particularly the brushless stuff and the larger cordless shop vac.
Frank D
I think that may have to do with the price of the battery kit and equal value up to: $149 … $99.
Certainly something Ryobi should have thought out better and Home Depot may get some bad customer vibes from.

Miter saw on the web site – it’s model #P553.

On the flyer they mention a slightly different model, #P552.

Pictures on HomeDepot.com and on Ryobi site show some differences. Maybe you need to check in store. Or on the web, but later.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. Much easier than the HD site.

Does anyone know if the Rigid batteries are covered by the LSA? Generally batteries purchased with a kit are covered but this is a bit of a grey area
Frank D
Standalone batteries are not LSA, just standard warranty.
( unless there has been a change )
Patrick
Lack of the Ridgid one handed recip saw is a shame. I have one and I love it.
Ray
+1 this. I’ve taken out 3 young (8″ diameter) trees with that saw with a Milwalkee carbide pruning blade
Lance
nothing in M12… disappointing.
Kenneth Stephens
Really. I could use some more m12 batteries for a good deal and a free tool of course
Chris
There is an m12 promo to get free 6.0 battery with some kits
Frank D
M12 wise in HD store, there’s a sticker on the new installation driver, buy the kit, get a free m12 3ah battery.
Kevin
I just bought the installation driver with a free 6.0 AH battery at home Depot, in store
Pastor Dan
I think that’s what I meant.
Kizzle
I want to purchase the Makita xzh03z left blade circular saw. I own no Makita batteries or chargers. What is the best way to buy the saw and batteries since that tool isn’t eligible for this deal? Maybe buy the Makita tier 1 kit, get the new sub compact circular saw. Sell the new sub compact circular saw and use funds to get the older blade left saw?
Kizzle
Edit to add: I really wish the new sub compact saw didn’t go blade right. Every other 6 1/2 saw is blade left.
Jay
I doubt the Ryobi drops, though I hope it does…some of the tools (bare) are over $99 as-is. Example: shop vac for $109
JoeM
Is the Milwaukee 4.0 battery pack with a free tool a good deal?
I bought an M18 drill last year and would like to get more batteries, plus I wanted the m18 oscillating tool also.
I could buy this now with gift cards, or are better deals coming on Black Friday?
Stuart
A lot more deals are coming.
These are all good deals. Some combinations might be better values than others dollar-wise, but none of that means anything if you get something you don’t need as much.
JoeM
Thanks Stuart. I was hoping for an M18 oscillating tool with a battery and possibly a Bluetooth speaker with or without a battery.
The two battery promo with a bare tool is enticing but I could do without the charger and bag. I’ll wait for BF before deciding what to buy.
Frank D
Extra chargers are handy as backup or for an alternate charging location. Garage, basement, cabin.
If a charger fails it may take some time for warranty replacement or it may take a bit of money to buy one retail on the spot.
So, due to mandatory bundle kits for some tools and promotional buys, I have a couple extra per brand.
Greg
I would have been interested in Makita’s tier one, if they were 5ah batteries. These 4ah would just be a short duration landmine in a small collection of 5ah’s that came in other deals.
Mikhail
FYI – there is the same deal for Makita 2x 5ah starter kit over at acmetools.
The price is 220$ instead of 200$, however.

Starting to think that all Black Friday deals are going to be meh this year considering how strong the economy supposedly is. Maybe retailers aren’t looking to put in a lot of deals because they’re getting the sales already. Just a thought.
Scott K
I’m pretty sure HD dropped the Ryobi starter kit price to $130- not sure if it’s temporary.
