Home Depot kicked off a huge new Ryobi 18V cordless power tool deal, in stores and online, where you buy a battery starter kit and get 1 FREE tool.
You get a couple of extra freebie tool choices by shopping online rather than in-store.
It’s unclear as to when this deal will expire, but it seems Home Depot at least has plenty of inventory. My local store has nearly 150 starter kits in stock, and at the time of this posting, Home Depot has more than 28,600 starter kits available for delivery.

Home Depot has more than 2,000 stores in the USA. If we apply an estimated average of 120 starter kits per store, and add in online inventory, that would mean they have more than 250,000 starter kits for this Father’s Day and “Ryobi Days” promo.
There are nearly 1100 units in stock at the 9 stores within 10 miles of my zip.
This is a major deal.

Here’s a look at the freebie selection.
The starter kit comes with 1x 2Ah battery, 1x 4AH battery, and a charger. The freebie selection is very varied, although all of the options appear to be older brushed motor tools. There’s also a battery as the bonus or free gift option.
While not as good as last season’s Black Friday deal, this still gives you a lot for $99.

Price: $99
I wouldn’t call this is a scalding hot deal, but it looks to offer a good value.
With so much inventory available in stores and online, there’s no need to rush, although you’ll want to check the inventory count for any tools you’re considering as the free gift item. Online, two of the options are already listed as being sold out.

Home Depot has another online-only Ryobi cordless power tool deal.
With this pricier deal, you buy a 3-battery starter kit for $199, and you can choose a Ryobi 18V HP power tool as the free gift item.
You get 1x 2Ah battery, 2x 4Ah batteries, and a charger. The free tool selection is more premium, but you’re also spending more for it.
It’s worth noting that this deal gets you Ryobi 18V High Performance batteries, which are not the same as the batteries included in the $99 bundle.
Price: $199

The Father’s day “buy a starter kit, get a free tool” deals are on at Home Depot in Canada too. The Ryobi deal though, is notably worse than this one (it’s buy a $200 6ah starter kit, get a free non-HP tool).
Dewalt’s seems like better value (especially if you need a string trimmer). However, Ryobi, Dewalt, Ridgid and Milwaukee all have pretty limited tool selection – mostly “core tools”.
I couldn’t find anything I wanted, even though I thought the deal was pretty good.

Interestingly some of the deals are better in Canada than the USA. I bought the ryobi wet tile saw with table for 148 cad, vs 144 usd. That’s like a 25% discount.
Also, the 18v caulking gun was the same price in both dollars.

Wild that they’re still using photos of that planer with the fence/blade cover on backwards

I was hoping for a leaf blower to supplement my gas backpack blower. My two local stores sold out during Black Friday before I could get there.

Thanks for this! I’m strongly considering investing in Ryobi for light wood working. I wonder how good that circular saw is on the $199 deal.

Ryobi is worth investing in. I considered other brands but the price of ryobi and the size of the product offering is great. Plus there are great sales at directtoolsoutlet to get refurbished and blemished items

I have the Ryobi cordless circular saw. I have cut more dimensional lumber and ripped more sheets of plywood than I can remember and it’s been fine. Not as powerful as my corded saws, but it’s always done what I needed.

I have the original circular saw and love it.
Keith
It’s a great circular saw..

The problem with these Ryobi offers is they’re great for getting new buyers, but not so great for folks that already have batteries and have only a few holes in the tool arsenal. I could use the angle grinder from the $99 kits, but the grinder is $60 without a battery. Possibly the best deal is buying the $199 battery kit and getting that awesome pet stick vacuum, which sells alone for $199.

This year I needed a planer, so I bought the https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-ONE-18V-Cordless-3-1-4-in-Planer-Tool-Only-with-Dust-Bag-P611/301289964 offer online. Right there, on the order review page, it said that I’m buying a planer for $49.50, and the battery starter kit for another $49.50. When my package arrived, I went to the local store and returned the battery kit, keeping just the planer, for under $50.

A year ago I got this same pet vacuum, but with a dual-roller bar – probably like this one https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-ONE-HP-18V-Brushless-Cordless-Pet-Stick-Vac-with-Dual-Roller-Bar-Tool-Only-PBLSV717B/323077880 – and am very happy with the purchase ($219 at the time; American short-haired cat at home). So, depending of how much hair your pet sheds out, it might be a really great choice, for a bonus tool purchase.

The vacuum is not very good. I have bought two of them. The first one malfunctioned within a couple months. I’m a big Ryobi fan generally, so I forgave the malfunction and bought another.
The vacuum clogs way too easily. You will spend as much time unclogging it as you do actually vacuuming.

I was at HD yesterday and saw these deals. I opted for the $199 deal (2 x 4ah & 1 x 2ah + charger) and chose the stick vac. The stick vac is normally $249 but currently on special for $199…but free with the battery starter kit.
BTW, when I was in the electrical section, I checked the hand tools. Back in Jan-Feb it was 20% Commercial Electric, 40% Klein, and 40% Milwaukee. Yeasterday it was 70% Milwaukee, 20% Klein & 10% Commercial Electric.

This is a great way to intro people to Ryobi tools but as noted, eventually you have the ones you need. And I have never (yet) had a Ryobi battery fail, so I even have batteries brand-new in the box waiting for me to need them
The Direct Tool sales are excellent and it is surprising how many products they sell in the Ryobi line. HD scatters a lot of Ryobi around the store – lights are with lights, fans with fans, vacuums with vacuums of course, but it’s more obvious what they offer on the Direct Tool site

Funny you say that about the batteries. I have used One+ since it came out and still have my original 2.4ah batteries that still hold charge, The only battery I had fail, (out of warranty), is a 5ah battery that I had in storage and never got used. When I went to use it it had four bars on it but went flat after very short use. It charges to four bars but is not usable when it quickly drops to three bars
Spencer
Right, about this. The battery didn’t last 15mins before powering down in the 1gal shop vac I got. Seems like a good deal but the product is trash
Henry Williams
I’ve got many of the Ryobi 1 tools and batteries. I love them especially the weed eater. The only problem I’ve had is the battery is hard to get off my drill. I would hardly call these tools trash.
James
I bought the $199 starter battery set that was supposed to include the “free tool” which in my case was the vacuum stick. I bought it online and HD only sent the kit and no free tool. When I got with customer service they said something must have messed up and for me to find a box to put everything back in and return it and they would cancel the purchase and then I could make another order. Unbelievably inefficient and stupid waste of time. This is after converting to the entire One+ HP line as well as storage systems and tool accessories. The point is that HD doesn’t care about giving you a deal, whether you are a good or repeat customer or anything except making a sale. I’m now in the process of dumping all my Ryobi tools, systems and accessories to convert to another manufacturer that doesn’t use Home Depot as their exclusive vendor.
In short, if you do decide to buy from Home Depot definitely only buy in store and not online because you won’t have a chance of getting any support from online.

I have a 40 V Ryobi battery which did not last more than a year. It cannot be charged. I have 2 others which cannot hold a charge. Given the cost of these batteries, I am disappointed in their life and am disallusioned with the product.
Brent
Try charging your batteries again. They may start charging again
Edward
My Ryobi 40v brushless leaf blower is a decent tool. I bought compatible batteries from Amazon for about 1/2 price
