Home Depot has a Ridgid Pro Gear Rolling Tool Chest for $90

Ridgid Pro Gear Tool Chest Stack

Since we’re on the topic of horizontal tool boxes, it seemed fitting to talk about the Ridgid Pro Gear 2.0 modular horizontal tool chest that’s available at Home Depot for $90.

The Ridgid rolling tool chest has a 28″ length and is compatible with the brand’s Pro Gear modular tool boxes.

It features a water and dust seal, extending handle, and padlock eye.

The 4″ wheels seem a bit small, but on the bright side they don’t take much away from the tool box’s internal storage volume.

Ridgid Pro Gear Tool Chest Filled with Tools

It comes with a removable tote tray.

According to the specs, the Ridgid rolling tool box has a load capacity of 100 lbs. While they don’t give exact dimensions for the interior space, they dos ay it can fit a 24″ level.

It’s a little larger than their other Pro Gear modular tool boxes, but perhaps not unwieldly.

Price: $90

Buy it at Home Depot

While it’s available online with free shipping, I think this is the kind of tool box most users will want to check out in person.

Also, Home Depot’s product page aggregates reviews from all of Ridgid’s Pro Gear tool boxes, and I haven’t had any luck sorting them out to only find the relevant ones.

I’ve had the Ridgid chest for 3 or 4 years, and it’s actually great for me. The longer length is good for tossing hammers, mallets, pry bars, etc. into when they won’t fit in one of the narrower boxes. Then, the organizers with fasteners and whatnot can still latch right on top.

I know people like to drool over Packout and Tough Case and the like, but, really, something like is is probably enough for the home DIYer. Husky’s cases typically do need quite a bit of airing out to get rid of the residual chemical smells, though.

Did you typo “Ridgid” as “Husky”? Cause the Ridgid boxes DO have a lot of stank when new.

It’s a “feature” to show you how well the airtight gasket seals 😉

Whoops! Yup. Weird typo when I was thinking Ridgid and Husky wasn’t mentioned at all.

For home use, this Plano Sportsman medium-sized trunk may be a lower-cost alternative:

Off Topic – but it looks like the Mafell $189 off sale is still going on:

I am not a big fan of this kind of toolboxes, no matter the Brand.
I cannot imagine myself lifting and pulling them around full of tools and hardware, i mean they can be 100/200 pounds heavy right ?

Those are some scrawny wheels. I’d lose a little interior space for some reasonable rollers. Its not like they have to be mud tire wide, just a larger diameter.

When will Ridgid unleash a media blitz letting us know they fit under a bed cover?

Ridgid seems like a great value comparison since it’s mostly just a box like Makita. The side locking system is annoying when tucked in somewhere or multiples are stacked side by side, but they’re robust and functional.

Looking at the Makita system, Makita certainly has a higher weight rating and some nice features, but it’s nearly 3x more expensive.

Not related to the Ridgid box, but I do loathe the way Home Depot aggregates reviews across different products. I was just in the market for a backpack vacuum and checked out the Milwaukee. HD dumped all of the reviews for seven different Milwaukee vacuums (including one of the the M12s) all together. Same thing with the Q&A. The reviews at least have some text attached that says what product they are supposed to be referring to, but I haven’t been able to find any way to search or filter directly on this label. There’s a search bar search text of the reviews Themselves, but it doesn’t seem to apply to the *label saying what it’s for*. The Q&A is even worse, with no labeling to say what product the user was asking about. Most of the brand reps who respond will mention a model number, but if they don’t or for anyone else who responds it’s often completely unintelligible. Is the HD site really this bad or am I missing something?

I complained to Home Depot about that a few years ago. They blamed it on the software they use, and that was it.

You’ll see some brands gaming the system so that they launch new products with x-number of existing reviews rather than a blank slate.

Lumping reviews together, or aggregating them from other websites, even if inaccurate, misleading, or confusing, likely sells more products, and so there’s little reason for anyone to improve it.

I’ve had this box for about two or 3 years and back then it was $74… talk about inflation. It is made in Israel so I guess import taxes are going up. Any way, this box works great when placed in the back of a pick up truck. Just the right height, with and length. It pairs well with the compact compartment box shown.

The smell of the outgassing put me off buying a Ridgid case for a long time. During a Christmas sale, I bought a three box rolling set for $130. I don’t remember how quickly the smell went away, but I would have returned them if it lingered. I’m very happy with them.

Looks like the dolly is potentially available! (Limited stock allegedly in my store, not able to purchase online or even online for store pickup)
