Why is Home Depot Selling a 2-Pack of Table Saws?

Ridgid Table Saw 2-Pack at Home Depot

Home Depot ran another tool deals of the day event today, and one of the featured items is a 2-pack of Ridgid table saws with rolling stands.

Yes, it’s a 2-pack of table saws.

I thought it was strange, and then a reader’s email made me think more about it.

Here’s a new one for me, never seen a table saw 2-pack before. I’ve seen grinders and sanders but never a table saw.

Welders like to rock multiple grinders, as it’s quicker to pick up a different tool than to swap between accessories back and forth. I suppose the same is true for woodworkers who might want to keep sanders loaded with different types or sizes of sandpaper grits.

But table saws?

At the time of this posting, while the sale is still ongoing, (1) table saw is $549. Or you can buy (2) for $699.

There’s free delivery either way.

I’ve seen things like this before, and always figured it was Home Depot’s algorithm being strange.

Or maybe it’s meant for teams of pro users who might set up more than one table saw at jobsites?

I’ve always seen nailer bundles before, and that makes sense.

However, I rarely see residential contractors, deck-builders, and other such pros use more than one table saw at jobsites. Even when I drive past work-in-progress, there’s usually just one table saw set up.

Deals like this tend to work well if you have buddies that are also buying the same exact new tools, or are flexible in their choices. Two table saws at $699 is a lot better than one for $549.

But then why wouldn’t they just sell them for $350 each on sale? A lot more users would be willing to buy one for $350 than two at double the price.

Maybe there’s something I’m not seeing. What are your thoughts on portable table saw multi-packs?

Selling them at an attractive price ? 2024? I bought a 2 pack of the original Ridgid 12 volt 3/8 inch drills back in 2009. I didn’t need two, but I remodeled my house with them. They had integrated chucks IIRC. A little off topic.

Sell more saws and you will likely sell more blades. Perhaps some of their ridiculously priced finish lumber.

You’re right. Strange in deed to sell 2 at a lower price when you could just sell 1 at a lower price. Gut instinct says clear em out and get rid of em but most buyers are individuals. Maybe they think people will buy them 2 at a time and try and sell brand new on Craigslist? LOL. I don’t know. Scratching my head on this one. I have one though and they are a solid project homeowner table saw.

But maybe that is exactly what they are shooting for, in this case. Maybe they are taking the people that buy the bundle deals so they can return or sell part of it and using it to their advantage. Perhaps moving twice as many saws is still better even if it’s a lower profit?

Sometimes you have to move the ripguide and change the angle of the blade when making several cuts on a board. By having 2 table saws, one can be set on a bevel and the other one straight up. You can get things done faster and easier if you had 2 saws instead of only one.
We just made some trim for an old house. I wish we would have had 2 table saws on the job. It would have saved us about an hours worth of work.

If I had the room I would have two table saws in my workshop, one with a rip and the other with a crosscut just to save the time juggling blades.
I have two vertical bandsaws, I keep a metalworking blade on one and a wood blade on the other. While either saw could cut either material it’s just nice to be able to walk up and use the correct saw rather than have to mess with blade changes.

I know a lot of guys in cabinet shops will have more than one table saw for the sake of efficiency, but they’re certainly not using these Rigid jobsite saws. My best guess is that this deal is aimed at contractors who have multiple crews and job sites running at a time. It’s probably also an attempt for HD to clear some inventory

Or, you can have one good table saw that easily adjusts those things. The one thing my (and no) table saw easily adjusts is blade change, especially rip cut to dado and back.

I have seen table saw bundles, and other strange combinations, from HD before. And only HD. I was always of the opinion those bundles were computer-generated.

Sometimes those odd bundles seem to pop up as part of some greater deal. For example, when there’s a “Buy X get a free tool” deal, HD will usually create a listing in their catalog for every possible combination of tool + freebie whereas other vendors like Acme, CPO, Lowes, etc. have you pick your free tool from a dropdown. So if HD has four tools on sale with five possible free tools to pick from, HD will create 20 individual listings. That can result in puzzling combinations.

A lot of people are panicking about coming saw stop legislation likely forcing them to pay more for a safer table saw. Already saw calls to buy one now before the price goes up at least another $200. Perhaps they are trying to ride this wave?

This is what I was thinking. Beat the sawstop legislation and pick up a few backups for your job site crews. If there were a number of multi saw buyers, the algorithm could have suggested this sale.

My other thought was a dado stack on one saw would be handy in a cabinet build. A cabinet shop I know has 3 saws: one to rip, one to dado, and one that just miters. A second saw could save allot of time. But most likely, it’s a saw stop sell.

I’m no contractor, but if I own one saw of any kind, I would not exactly mind another one set up for different cuts, materials, or scenarios.

One saw for rips, one for crosscuts.
One saw for trim, the other for laminate.
Sometimes, even sane people use right blade circ saws…

Ooh – that’s a great point! Changing blades isn’t too time-consuming on a table saw, but getting the dado stack width, height, and fence set *just right*? – I can a contractor potentially wanting to set it just once at the start of the day or job for a repetitive task, while still being able to rip and crosscut with a standard blade.

Without experience, this was sort of my thought. But would this saw be the goto choice for a contractor doing that kind of work that wants two saws? My cynical thought is that you need two since one may not hold up or this item wasn’t excluded from automatically generated bogo deals…

Why would a GC dado cut dimensional southern pine lumber? It’s stick building at speed (how many jobs per season?) they chop it and toe-screw it in to make a wall/roof/etc there not doing finish work out in the mud.

No offense to the GC’s I’ve done the job in the past and it requires skill but there’s nothing fancy about it, it’s all about power and speed to make money. A well done job doesn’t have to be fancy or have a polished finish.

I think I’m on board with the automated sales idea. It’s probably way to many saws setting in inventory and it’s a reasonable idea to offload them according to some supply chain spreadsheet.

I’m sure they didn’t pay half that for each saw.

Yes we do. Those of us with commercial shop locations tend to try to stay with commercial vendors yes but sometimes the big box has better deals, faster acquisition and can get us out of a quick pinch.

Those of us that primarily focus on on-site residential and even commercial contracting, buy nearly everything from the big box, even materials. Especially if the housing market they’re working in is under 1 million value. Shoot, even the 25,000sqft and over, market contractors will buy darn near all their tools from the big box…. or Amazon these days. 35+years experience in the field, speaking here.

That happened years ago with generators. My neighbor and I were both sort of looking for a generator, and he called me if I still wanted one. He stumbled across a similar deal on a two pack. We were wondering if they were a good deal or not so stopped at a local mom and pop yard and garden store, and he said grab ’em. The two pack was actually cheaper per unit than his dealer price was at the time.

One for rips/crosscuts and one for dado stack? That saw can take a 6 inch dado stack, if anyone’s curious. I really dont see a point in owning two jobsite table saws unless you’re a contractor etc that really needs that.
For this particular table saw….I’d steer clear away. Usually a fan of most of their products but I had nothing but trouble aligning the blade of this saw. Even their repair people couldn’t fix it. Sent it in twice.
For rough dimensional lumber and not particularly accurate cuts it will do the job. I ended up upgrading to a more reliable and accurate table saw.

That is perplexing. I would agree with an Algorithm glitch. A table saw buy is a rather individualistic decision, depending on what you value in a table saw. So I just don’t see you saying, “Hey neighbor/friend! I’ve got an extra new table saw. Want it?”

I have a feeling that they are going to bring out a better model. It happened to the 10” Tile Wet Saw. In my location, the saw was nowhere to be found. I had to search for it everywhere. Ended up with the 8” table saw. A few weeks past and all stores had a newer model. They also upgraded the 7” tile saw because my boss got it for small jobs. I still had my old 7” tile saw. The new 7” was a lot better!

But, I do remeber considering buying the two pack, when I was shopping for a table saw, just so I could sell the second for a reduced price and, essentially, get a ‘free’ saw out of the deal.

This is probably aimed at a number of the above suggestions… those looking for a production line where their materials need multiple passes, a rip and cross cut (as an example), those smaller companies with a need to upgrade 1-2 worksites/vehicles, moving aging inventory, the SawStop outcome, etc…

and as they say, never look a gift horse in the mouth, so if in the market for 2 saws- don’t ask why this is and accept that it is real.

Less time monkeying with blade switch.

Realistically, Move more of a crap product because production overran demand. Demand is low because product quality is low.

Redesign of product obsoleted an old design. Not sacrificing production value or price point of single product while moving more units at cost.

The price seems excellent, but correct me if I am wrong, doesn’t this saw come on special for $449, $399, and even $349 at times?

I have the previous gen of this saw and about 10 years ago I got it for something like $250 or $300. Prices have gone up quite a bit, especially recent years, but unless I am mixing up my saws, this can be had at about the price of the bundle dived by 2 when a good special is in.

If it is the model I am thinking of, getting it on special is a good deal.

If I am wrong and it rarely goes below $549, then the 2 for $699 is fantastic deal.

Also #1 – many commented on the 2nd for crosscuts. Maybe, but SCMS is easier and better to use for crosscuts.

Also #2 – the 2nd for dados. If it is like mine, it could do the occasional dado, but setup as a dedicated saw for dados, not sure this saw would be up to the task.

Ok here’s the deal. Home Depot signed an agreement not to sell below MAP on these rigid saws that were then purchased en masse and the saws haven’t been moving at MAP pricing. Their is a loophole in the agreement with the vendor which allows Home Depot to sell a two pack at whatever price they choose – and they’re selling them for only 5% over cost on this deal. 5% will barely cover shipping and the money cost at the end of the day. But gotta move em out like a bad special.
