I picked up two Lorby USB chargers during my last trip to Ikea. They seemed to be especially workshop-friendly, and who can’t use more USB chargers?
The Lorby can be mounted in several different ways. First, it’s magnetic! In the photo above, it’s attached to a steel Milwaukee Tool mobile workbench.

There are keyholes on the back, which you can use to hang it off of small screws. There’s also an attachable clip, that fastens it pretty securely to boards and worktops 3/8″ to 1″ thick. Lastly, it also comes with pre-cut double sided tape.
Yep, it’s pretty versatile.
The Ikea Lorby charger has 3 USB ports. Max output per port is 2.4A, and max output per charger is 3.4A. Ikea says that it offers built-in over-current protection, as well as short-circuit protection and overheating protection. It auto-detects attached devices, and adjusts the power output accordingly.
The Lorby measures 4″ long x 1″ tall x 1″ wide. Its power cord measures 6′ 3″, and plugs into the bottom of the device.
Price: $13

I was genuinely excited to buy the Lorby when I first saw it at my nearest Ikea store. Right now, it’s mounted on a steel wall cabinet. I bought two, and the other will likely go on the side of a tool storage rolling cabinet that doesn’t have a built-in power strip.
The Lorby is available in different colors – white, black, yellow, and red.
The biggest reason to buy something like this over an Anker product or other traditional USB charger brand, is that it offers different – and very useful – mounting options. That’s what sold me on it. Right now I’m only using the magnetic mounting option, but I might clip one to the bottom of a shelf. Because it comes with a spring clamp, you can do that, and easily too.
So far, I’m liking my Lorby USB chargers. They appear to be well-made, and they’re every bit as versatile as I had anticipated. $13 wasn’t a very large investment either.

Those tricky Swedes. Just what we need. More IKEA.
But seriously it’s a lot easier then permanently installing the great Leviton Decora versions. Though the latest does have a USB C port too!

And yet another dang wall wart? Not for IKEA.
So nice find.

I’ve been using the Top Greener TU21548A for almost three years now. Wall outlet USBs are mighty handy no matter the brand. I paid $21-$22 a piece but camelcamelcamel says TU21548A-W-2PCS @ $34 is good.
The TU21560A2C dual USB-C is on my buy list, though probably just one or two for the living room.
A recent use is a cheap USB reading lights as a night lite.

White on your Milwaukee tool box? Not black or red? Not very fashionable…
I think that box has USB port, built in. Interesting

That’s not where it’s being used.

I like this, maybe next time i’m at Ikea. So close to harbor freight tools. I’m ready to give Bauer a try. lol…

I’ve had 2 of these in my house for a few months and I’ve been really impressed with how well the work. Mounting is competent and the power output for charging is very good as well. I’m not sure if all ports are equal in that regard, I just don’t remember. The power brick is a bit on the large side and unusually shaped too but that’s survivable.

Interesting I recently bought a powerstrip from someone that has 2 usb high capacity jacks built in with 6 prong outlets and I’m using that on my worktable now.
Covers both my needs at the same time but it was more than 13 dollars.

I use the Tripp Lite version, less current than Lörby, but a six strip + two usb.
TLP606USBB. $16 at amazon, I bought mine for $13.
I have USB outlets as well TU21548A $22 two usb @2.4A each.
I’m looking to get the two USB-C @ 3A soon TU21560A2C.
Not cheap but convenient, will charge everything but the laptops.
I have friends who attached an index card holder to the wall to put the phone in while charging and it leaves a place to put the cord(s) back.

I got a USB hub from Anker. It has USB 3.1, meaning it will transfer data and charge devices at the maximum rate possible right now. Two ports are also USB-C (referring to the physical connector, which is symmetrical top to bottom.) Because of the large current capacity, it has its own power supply and cable.
I am likely never to use all that power, but I figured that more capacity makes for a more robust device, especially since it is cheap.
True, it doesn’t have all the mounting options as the IKEA, at least out of the box, but that is easy to fix. I stuck it to my computer with 3M Command adhesive strips.

Both my USB 3 hubs have a dedicated charging connection so it’s quite possible a dedicated charger is still better than a typical hub port
What I would really like to see is outlets with USB type C PD (power delivery) which is what’s needed to charge laptops and such (PD can handle 5V but also up to 20v at 5A. My laptop uses it and I like it – but my current single port PD power supply is as big as a mutiport 5V one)

I could see those outlets being useful. If I used one, I would want whole-house surge protection though.
