KC Tool doesn’t have the best prices on everything, but their pricing is generally very good, and even better than elsewhere on certain tools – especially when something’s on sale. They have a huge product selection and very good in-stock availability that I’ve seen.
For example, they have a Wera color-coded 3/8″ metric socket set that will work great with my SAE sets. I might still buy small Zyklop sets if/when the price is right, but with these small socket assortments I don’t necessarily have to. Not all Wera dealers carry that set (yet?).

I found these accidentally after pretty much giving up on searches for “SMA torque” – while a lot of stuff comes up, these did not.
I bought two for a very remote project and they worked perfectly (just like all my other Wiha tools).

Uh huh….I do believe that there are many folks the read your site with credit cards nearby. Like I said, I have drills/drivers. Seems as if many people have experienced the joy of doing business with Comcast. A few years ago I was having their “Business Internet” installed at my home. So I was home on the day of the install and the guy first had to bury a run of coax cable from the service box at the rear corner of my property to the side of my house. After unspooling and cutting the cable he came to me and rather sheepishly said “I don’t have the correct equipment to bury the cable, but another installer nearby does and he’s going to bring his and give me hand with it.” He didn’t say what the equipment was but I imagined it to perhaps be a small walk behind trencher. About thirty minutes later a guy shows up with “the correct equipment”, and it was a shovel. Well, after the installation was complete and he was showing me what he had done, I asked him if he would please but some caulking around the hole where the cable enter the exterior wall of my house. After searching his truck he said he didn’t have any but would be right back. I didn’t think much about the completion of this simple task but I was double checking everything the next day an I noticed that the caulking still appeared wet. On closer inspection and touching the “caulking” he used I discovered it was silicon grease!

Wow, this ended up a great deal for me. I have been looking for a Ox Head OX 644 H-1255 Hatchet Split-Quick Rotband-Plus. My “go to” site had it for $104 which was $6 cheaper than anywhere else. KC had it for $109.50 but gave an automatic in cart discount. Then I applied the Tool Guy discount and paid $89 including free shipping. Sweet deal and this will compliment my Big Ox splitting maul. If you split more than two pieces of wood per year you can’t beat Ochsenkopf splitting axes.

This is a little off topic but is a question related to discounts, so I hope it’s ok. In my opinion the deals offered During the holidays haven’t been very good. Ten % here or there, cheap or outdated tools, and a lack of exciting loss leaders to inspire me to purchase things that aren’t life or death have marked the season.
Is the reason for this that retailers, including the big box home stores, have had sales that don’t necessitate it this year? Is the economy for this sector really that good? I just don’t understand what’s happened? I save and wait all year for these deals and have really been disappointed.

Honestly, I have no idea.
Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears had typical sales of past years, focusing on specific discounts and pronounced bundles than blanket discount codes.
Online retailers have done better as a whole, from what I’ve seen, but also focusing on specific promos.
The $25 off $100+ and smaller discounts were predictable.
Amazon’s bonus tools with Dewalt starter kit was unexpected.
Overall, Amazon didn’t have enough tool deals. They used to have many Lighting Deals on tools, this year they had barely any mentionable promos like that.
Maybe they didn’t think they needed it. They focused a lot on no-name junk tools. Maybe the sold well, but I hope not. I’d rather not see this become the trend every winter and Father’s day holiday shopping seasons.
I think that perhaps the problem is that these retailers are focusing their attention on gift givers and casual users, rather than those of us looking to buy tools and equipment for our own use.
I’ve been disappointed too.
But on the bright side, independent retailers have had great promos, such as Count on Tools (PB Swiss supplier), KC Tool, and some online retailers like Acme Tools. I think their focus has been on end users instead of gift givers, and I plan to watch them much closer next year.

Coming from a history of buying for a few businesses – and having made the (mixed blessing) of sometimes giving vendors my personal email address) I still get barraged with promos for sales on tools from the $2 category all the way through capital tools, heavy machinery and even construction equipment. I try to share some (maybe not the “great deals on excavators now!” type sales) of these – over on the Community Forum. But this year – I think I agree that many of them have been more Ho-Hum than Ho-Ho. Zoro – who used to do some pretty decent 25% off and 30% off deals (on their sometimes higher than average base prices) seemed to have many more restrictions this year. I did think that Acme tools – seemed to step up and offer some bargains.

Thank you Stuart and KC. This is bad, really bad. I just ordered a Wera bit ratchet set. As an impulse purchase. That I didn’t really need.
I had occasion to need a bit ratchet to remove a panel on our boat to access the radios. I used the Topeak bike ratchet I had which performed ok but it was all so undignified working on an expensive boat to remove expensive Icom radios. I mean, they don’t drive British royalty around in Honda Civics, do they?
Anyway, I’m heading down the slippery slope and add this set to the assortment of Knipex I have, tools whose quality greatly exceeds this user’s competency.
But there is just something about handling and using high quality tools…

It is indeed a slippery slope. Some years ago I got into hand planes. Recognizing that I might have actually had more skills as a plumber than as a woodworker did not deter me and I’ve now after 30 years or so – I think I can actually use some of what I’ve acquired with a modicum of finesse. I’ve also acquired the skills to tune up some vintage planes that are not too far gone. Like you’re comments about Wera and Knipex – most of my working planes (Lie Nielsen and Veritas) are top-grade journeyman tools. But they sky is the limit on tools like planes – and custom makers like Karl Holtey (who announced his retirement) made some that I had a hard time passing by – even though I knew I neither needed them nor had the skill to employ to their full potential. Maybe I can entice you – planes work well restoring vintage wooden boats:
